Welcome

• The ONE Liberia Student League (OLSL) is an initiative coordinated by Liberian students.

• Our mission is to build a united Liberia by empowering and engaging Liberians through a process of collective action and interaction.

• Our vision is to foster a culture in which all Liberians truly share in nationalistic principles and values.

• This initiative comes as a result of urgent needs arising in Liberian society due to the past fifteen years of civil unrest.

• We will campaign against the use of class, tribalism, politics, or any other tool that may be used to divide our people.

• As students from a wide range of backgrounds, the members of OLSL may not share similar views on our country's key issues, but we all share a vision of the great nation Liberia will one day be.

History of the OLSL

• OLSL was conceived in April 2010 as a collaborative venture between ONE Liberia, an advocacy group comprised of young professional Liberians, and undergraduate students at the University of Liberia (LU).

• The student-driven initiative is the result of discussions held by Mr. Taa Wongbe, a US-based Liberian entrepreneur and founding member of the ONE Liberia advocacy group, and a delegation of LU students led by Mr. Daniel Charles.

History of the OLSL

• This initial delegation would carry out the task of conceptualizing, documenting and organizing the OLSL in collaboration with coordinator, Charles D. Cooper, a Liberia-based graphic designer and founding member of the ONE Liberia advocacy group. Today's launch is the result of these efforts.

Concept

• To raise the potential of young Liberians by providing educational programs of an inclusive nature that will generate collective participation.

• To focus on the issues of education and accomplishment as tools to attaining a wholesome working environment.

• To build a culture of tolerance and national unity by developing and implementing several unification programs that fully reflect the dignity of true Liberian values.

• To build a vibrant generation of today, by engaging and empowering our young people with new ideas in order to have a sustainable future.

Membership

• Membership shall be divided into four categories: executives, middle managers, staff, and general membership.

• Benefits in the organization shall be equitably distributed according to membership categories.

• As a social service organization our members stand to benefit from incentives, scholarships and other educational facilities.

Eligibility

• All university students pursuing undergraduate degrees with a background of voluntary community service work shall be eligible to become members, through application followed by confirmation.

• Only full members shall enjoy the rights and privileges of the organization, including the right to leadership if appointed.

• The members of the ONE Liberia Student League will strictly adhere to the rules and regulations of their perspective universities, and encourage fellow students to do the same.

Project: National Civics Education Campaign

• OLSL members will conduct in-school civic education programs for students on the basic and secondary levels.

• The programs will be based upon a curriculum approved by the Ministry of Education, and will include topics such as:

– The National Flag, Seal and County Flags– The National Anthem– Tribes and Languages of Liberia– Liberia's Counties and County Capitols– The Map of Liberia
