Dear Graduates,

A very warm welcome to La Salle‟s 146th Commencement Exercise! September 2005 must seem a very long time

ago, and that first day a distant memory. The band played, the school administration and the Explorer welcomed

you, and most likely, you nervously entered the school having been dropped off by some equally anxious parents.

Today you will leave the halls of La Salle for a final time as very confident Lasallian gentlemen. For these four

years, you have added your unique talents and spirit in making La Salle the best it could be. Your accomplishments

will now grace the walls of our gymnasium but these will not tell the whole story.

Through Branch-out and Field days, the many service opportunities, and your clubs and team memberships, you

have formed yourselves into a unique brotherhood. Every time you returned from a Kairos experience you referred

to yourselves as a “band of brothers”. Now it is your time to move on in new directions and to make career choices. It is my hope that these four years have been so significant that you will long remember them and appreciate that

you are Brothers Boys formed in the tradition of the Christian Brothers and in the charism of Saint John Baptist de

La Salle.

You have heard “Live Jesus in our hearts” and responded “forever” countless times in these four years. Now you

will be the one to both initiate and respond to this message in your daily lives. If you live by this motto, you will

find that you will make very few mistakes in life. Know that La Salle looks forward to welcoming you on your

future visits.

Thank you, the Class of 2009, for having made this year and each of the previous years a wonderful experience.

Congratulations and best wishes as you move on.

This day, we also welcome the members of the Class of 1959 as they celebrate their 50th Anniversary. Your

accomplishments are recognized here in the gym as well as throughout the school. With your class there were plans

already afoot for the “new” La Salle to soon move to 8605 Cheltenham Avenue. You have taken to heart our motto

that La Salle Men will be Gentlemen. You have been giants in our history and assisted in taking La Salle to that next

level. La Salle thanks each of you for your support over these fifty years and wishes each only continued health and

happiness.

THE CLASS OF 2009

Ninety-eight percent of the Class of 2009 is continuing formal education at ninety-two colleges and

universities in twenty-two states.

As of May 15th, the Class of 2009 has earned documented scholarships and grants valued at over twenty-

five and a half million dollars.

More than seventy-seven percent of the graduates have earned merit-based and/or athletic scholarship aid.

Ten National Merit Finalists, and seventeen National Merit Commended Students, and two National

Achievement Scholars are among the graduates.

Eighty-eight members of the Class of 2009 were admitted to the National Honor Society.
