It has been just over a year since Dr. Alison Nohara, neurointerventional radiologist, joined Prevea and HSHS St. Vincent Hospital. Dr. Nohara provides 24/7 highly specialized, minimally invasive, neurointerventional treatment options for patients suffering with neurovascular brain disorders such as stroke, brain aneurysm and hardening of the neck and brain arteries (arteriosclerosis).

As of October 2019, Dr. Nohara has performed more than 180 procedures, which includes more than 60 thrombectomies. Thanks to Dr. Nohara, her team and the readiness of HSHS St. Vincent Hospital to accept and care for such complex patients.

DCMC has recently joined the HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Telemedicine Network for Tele-NICU and Tele-PICU services. The state-of-the-art program brings specialty care to Door County patients through technology to connect DCMC staff with board-certified neonatologists and board-certified pediatric intensivists at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital.

HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital has opened a new, state-of-the-art pediatric emergency center this month.

Located within the emergency department of HSHS St. Vincent Hospital, 835 S. Van Buren St. in Green Bay, the HSHS

St. Vincent Children’s Hospital K.C. and Georgia Stock Pediatric Emergency Center provides emergency care services to

children of all ages, 24/7. The center offers a play area, waiting room and 6 patient rooms specifically designed for

children.

HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital, established in 2015 as a “hospital within a hospital” at HSHS St. Vincent

Hospital, announced the development of the new pediatric emergency center in February 2019, during a public

launch of the Join the Fight campaign to raise $10 million to transform four units within the children’s hospital:

emergency care, pediatric and pediatric intensive care, and Child Life. Construction on the pediatric emergency

center began in late 2018, thanks to early support for the campaign. Renovations on the remaining three units are

anticipated to begin in November.

Patient care in the HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital K.C. and Georgia Stock Pediatric Emergency Center began on

Thursday, Oct. 3. (Prior to that date, pediatric emergency care was provided through the Emergency Department at

HSHS St. Vincent Hospital.)

Prevea is proud to welcome our newest neurosurgeon, Dr. Joseph Chabot. He joined the

neurosurgery team with Dr. Hoon Choi in September 2019 and practices at the Prevea

Allouez Health Center, 1821 S. Webster Ave., and performs surgery at HSHS St. Vincent

Hospital, 835 S. Van Buren St., in Green Bay.

Dr. Chabot treats brain, spine and peripheral nerve conditions with a special focus

on treatment of tumors and vascular lesions of the central nervous system. He utilizes

advanced techniques in minimally invasive brain and spine surgery, with an emphasis on

endoscopic skull base surgery. For a listing of his key services, visit prevea.com.

Dr. Chabot provides outstanding care to his patients and will keep you informed of

their condition while in his care. Following treatment, he will direct them back to you for

continued care. If we can be of assistance to you in any way, please do not hesitate to call:

Dr. Lorena Suarez-Kelly, a fellowship-trained surgical oncologist, joined Prevea in

October. This is the area’s only fellowship–trained surgical oncologist.

Board certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Suarez-Kelly has a special

interest in soft tissue sarcoma as well as other complex oncology cases such as

those affecting the hepatobiliary system. She will be based at the HSHS St. Vincent

Hospital Cancer Centers at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

Dr. Suarez-Kelly earned her medical degree from the University of Nebraska

College of Medicine in Omaha. She completed her general surgery residency at

Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. She completed a research

fellowship in tumor immunology at The Ohio State University and her fellowship

training in complex general surgical oncology at The Ohio State University

Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J.

Solove Research Institute.

The Women and Infants Center at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center is proud to open the first breast

milk depot and dispensary in Northeast Wisconsin! As the only depot and dispensary in the area to work with an

accredited milk bank, and the third dispensary in the state, we now offer patients an alternative option to formula

supplementation at no cost to them, and the public the option to safely donate and buy local breast milk.

By partnering with Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes, we’ve joined a network of organizations

dedicated to increasing access to local donor milk throughout our communities, and to ensure the safety of

pasteurized breastmilk through screening, processing, and dispensing guidelines established by the Human Milk

Banking Association of North America (HMBANA).

Libertas Happenings

CROWN Consortium Receives $5M from National Cancer Institute to Advance Cancer Research across 48 Wisconsin and Northern Michigan Counties

Libertas Treatment Center in Green Bay is excited to announce we now offer aninpatientresidentialprogram

designed to treat adolescents with substance use disorders who, due to functional limitations, need a safe and stable

living environment in order to develop, practice and demonstrate the necessary skills for recovery so they do not

immediately relapse. With residential treatment, patients can stay anywhere from two weeks to six months, or longer

if needed.

Residential treatment is a clinically-managed program with medical services available at all times, and involves more

counseling and community-based activities, than inpatient care, with a focus on developing social and coping skills

and preventing relapse. Our goal is to provide a flexible system with various levels of overlapping care, making

transition between each level of care seamless. The duration of care in each level of programing and length of

stay overall will depend on individual progress and outcomes in order to meet the unique needs of each patient.

With individualized treatment, Libertas is able to identify the best placement of care at each level by taking into

consideration the severity of each adolescent’s needs through assessment utilizing ASAM criteria, their response to

treatment and treatment progress.

If you have adolescent patients who need a higher level of care beyond IOP or day treatment programs, we may be

able to help. If you would like more information or to further discuss our treatment programs, please visit us online at

libertastreatment.org or contact our intake specialist at (920) 498-8600 or [email protected].

The National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has awarded the Cancer

Research of Wisconsin and Northern Michigan (CROWN) Consortium a $5 million grant to provide patients in

Wisconsin and Northern Michigan access to more leading-edge clinical trials over the next six years. This grant

is funded through the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP).

Established in 2018, the CROWN Consortium is a collaboration of three of Wisconsin’s largest cancer treatment

organizations: HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Cancer Centers, Ascension Wisconsin and Aspirus, Inc. Together, these

organizations offer an experienced research infrastructure with a team of highly-skilled investigators across

many areas of clinical research, including hematology, medical and radiation oncology, palliative care and

pediatric oncology.

Page 4: one family news · who suffer from acid reflux. The LINX procedure involves placing a small, flexible band of interlinked magnetic beads around the patient’s esophagus, just above

Dr. Hassanain Jassim, a Prevea Health general and bariatric surgeon, recently

completed his 400th LINX procedure – an innovative treatment providing relief to those

who suffer from acid reflux.

The LINX procedure involves placing a small, flexible band of interlinked magnetic

beads around the patient’s esophagus, just above the stomach. The device is designed

so that swallowing forces temporarily break the magnetic bond, allowing food and

liquid to pass normally into the stomach. At the same time, the magnetic attraction of the

device helps the body’s normal sphincter to contract, preventing reflux from the stomach

to the esophagus. Dr. Jassim performs the LINX procedure using robotic surgical systems

at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay and HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital

in Sheboygan.

With 400 LINX procedures completed, Dr. Jassim has performed the most ever in the

state of Wisconsin. As a top performer of the LINX procedure across the country,

he also assists in training surgeons nationwide on how to perform the procedure.

Menominee Tribal Clinic/Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin; and Florence County Human Services. The HOPE

Consortium will be dedicated to:

• Assessing the current resources available in Oconto, Marinette, Menominee, Shawano and Florence Counties for

the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders, including opioid use disorder.

• Identifying what additional resources are needed in Oconto, Marinette, Menominee, Shawano and Florence

Counties for the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders, including opioid use disorder.

• Developing a comprehensive strategic and workforce plan to strengthen and sustain prevention and treatment

resources in all five counties for the long-term.

A $200,000 grant from the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) will provide additional resources

to address substance use disorders, with a special focus on opioid use disorder, in Oconto, Marinette, Menominee,

Shawano and Florence Counties.

The grant was awarded in May 2019 to HSHS St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, which operates Libertas Treatment

Center in Marinette. Starting June 1, 2019, Libertas Treatment Center in Marinette will use the HRSA grant, as well as

a $20,000 matching grant from the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, to lead and operate the Heroin Opioid

Prevention Education (HOPE) Consortium.

The HOPE Consortium will consist of a team of representatives from seven local organizations: Libertas Treatment

Center in Marinette/HSHS St. Vincent Hospital; Prevea Health; Menominee County Human Services; Off the Couch

Counseling and Consultation; Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area (formerly Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette);
