    Tourism has the potential to not only be the economy driver, butalso become an effective tool for poverty alleviation andensuring growth with equity

    Tourism contribution to Indian GDP is 5.92%, and employmentis 7.9% providing 39,3 million jobs.

    The number of foreign tourist arrivals in India has grown to6.29 million in 2011, an annual rate of growth of 8.9%.

    The Ministry of Tourism has set a target toincrease Indias share in International TouristArrival from 0.6% to 1% by the year 2016,which means a growth rate of about 12% interms of Foreign Tourist Arrivals.
