Once upon a time… Home-learning ideas for Reception
at Rangefield Primary School, Spring 2 2020
Make a model of a pirate ship or a boat. Take a photo or draw a picture of your ship.
Bring it in to school.
The next day write a story or make up a story a about your ship, and tell it to someone else.
Draw a picture from your favourite story.
Can you write a label for your picture.
Go on a visit to The Golden Hind near London Bridge and find out what a real pirate ship was like.
Read as many pirate stories as you can from the Library, which one is your favourite?
Who is your favourite character? WHY?

Number your toys and line them up. This works especially well with toy cars, or bricks.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Get ten bowls or plates and put numbers on each one, how fast can you put ten things in bowl ten, nine things in bowl nine
and so on… use a timer on a phone or watch.
Find a coat hanger and ten clothes pegs and learn to do the magic trick of predicting how many pegs are hidden under a hankie if this
many are showing… (Using your number bonds to ten… i.e. 1+9, 2+8 3+7, 6+4….)
Learn to tie a knot in a piece of string. What can you do with your string? What shapes can you make it into?
Learn to tie your shoe laces…
There will be a prize for anyone who can learn to tie their shoe laces by themselves and prove it!!!
Patterns and sequences … can you learn the months of the year in order?

Can you use a calendar and write down important dates in it? Do you know the date of your birthday or the dates that school begins and ends on?
Learn to Say the days of the week in order
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday ,Saturday, Sunday

Which is your
favourite book?
Cook some porridge like Goldilocks.
Make a model of a chair and bring it to school.
Bake some cakes for Granny like
Little red Riding Hood did.
Build a house out of sticks like the 3 little pigs did. Can you knock it down with a hairdryer?
Can you make a big pile of cushions and take a photo of you pretending to
sleep on it like the Princess and the pea?
Do a random act of kindness every day.
