Smaller… but perfectly formed, Jewellery & Watch at the NEC Birmingham promises to pull in the punters with a combination of creative and conscientious inspiration, says Belinda Morris. It’s no secret that Jewellery & Watch, will, this year, look somewhat different to previous years. Most markedly it will be more compact. OK, it will be smaller. There are fewer exhibitors and many of the ‘big names’ that traditionally occupy prominent stands won’t be there. But they weren’t there last year either… and life went on. In fact J&W 2019 was gratifyingly successful for a broad cross-section of exhibitors, for a variety of reasons. The show will also look different because J&W has been gathered into the bosom of the Spring Fair family and given an upfront position – Hall 1 – alongside Fashion and Gift sections. The aim is to draw jewellery- buying visitors from other areas of the show – who will surely be tempted by the lure of innovative designers and brands that they might otherwise be unaware of and miss. Meanwhile, regular J&W visitors will be heartened by a much shorter walk from Birmingham International railway station. DesignersHazel Atkinson

This Spring Hazel Atkinson Jewellery is presenting new colour ranges to the existing collection, and introducing ‘mint’ as a cool option for pieces that can be worn with casual looks as well as posh frocks. All the jewellery is designed, manufactured, and dispatched from Hazel’s workshop in Nottingham, making it a 100 per cent British hand-made product.(1C53)

Yulan Jewellery

Following a successful 2019 show, Yulan will occupy a larger stand at J&W and will be focusing on its silver with red gold collections – by far its best sellers. The piece shown here is from the ‘Planished Hearts’ collection, supplied on a 16/18" chain.(1B60)

LBJ

Chris Lewis Silver

His approach to designing silver jewellery comes from developing signature textures and combining them to add depth. He is often inspired by the natural forms he comes across on his extensive travels.(1C41)

Thomas P Cochran

This Mauritius-based family-run business works mainly in silver, but with a growing collection in gold, pieces are handmade; taken from a mould of an original shell, cast and then hand finished. Inspired by the tropical waters and a love of the sea the range also includes marine animals and a few nautical twists for both men and women. New this year is a small, but growing, range inspired by the English countryside, including a ‘Bee’ collection. Men’s pieces include leather belts with chunky silver buckles and keyrings.(1C45)

Smile Jewellery

Smile specialises in largely plain sterling silver jewellery, at everyday prices to bring in continual sales. The current best sellers are little sterling silver studs. At the show the brand will be introducing more coastal-themed jewellery, with new seahorse and starfish designs, as well as ‘Ocean Wave’ bracelets and necklaces.(1E41)

Rodney Holman

Established over 40 years ago, Rodney Holman has become one of the leading distributors of high quality fashion jewellery. The extensive range of silver and rose gold plated necklaces, earrings and bracelets, large choice of brooches and great enamel pieces, combines with exemplary customer care. The Guild

The Guild jewellers carries out the whole development of your piece of jewellery, from initial design brief and ideas, to developing specifications and hand-making the finished piece. Timeless traditions are maintained: hand piercing, forging, filing and sanding from sheet and wire, then soldering together components and finishing by hand. Some techniques integrate modern technology and casting using lost wax methods, then each piece is hand-finished by polishing, ultrasonic cleaning and cold enamelling or kiln firing with glass enamel.
