AGE MANAGER REPORTS SAT 4 FEBRUARY 2017

U6G

What a great week by the Under 6 Girls! Low on numbers with only 3 girls, we decided to join the boys for the day for added competition. The girls all did amazingly well, with Sophie achieving 5 PBs, and Jennifer and Marli achieving 4 PBs each – total of 13 PBs between the three of them for the day!! Special mention to Marli Foster who was only 3 seconds away from the 300m race club record, and to Jennifer Toynbee who received the McDonalds Award for the week. Well done girls!

U8B

What a great morning with 2 new Season Bests, and heaps of PB's for the U8 Boys. Discus saw a new PB for Jeremy, followed by LJ with new PB's for Jeremy & Noah. The 200m was a the fastest race so far this year with a new SB set by Cooper with a 3 sec PB, and new PB's for Daniel, Matty L & Matt S. The 400m saw another SB set by Jeremy and a new PB for Matty L. The 60m Hurdles saw Matt S & Jeremy both set new PB's. The 70m was also fast with new PB's set by Matty L, Cooper (0.7 Sec), & Noah Luca (1.0 sec). Matty M, Kai & Sarthak were all doing their best as they do week in and out. Well done boys. Congratulations to Matt S for earning the McDonalds Award this week.

U9B Whilst the bugs were out in force they did not deter the U9 boys. Great efforts in all events with an amazing 6 PB's in discus. Special mention to Harper who set a new seasons best in long jump.

U10B

With the season end fast approaching the U10 boys still have much to compete for, pushing themselves to improve their PB’s. Geoffrey started the day well with PB’s in the hurdles & shot put, then followed this up with 2 great jumps in the long jump to improve his best mark by nearly 30cm. The 2 Gallagher’s in the group Liam & Bradley headed the 800mts coming first & second respectively. Kalan & Liam ran great 70mts, with Kalan getting a new season best & Liam smashing his PB. Most improved for the day went to William for throwing a big PB in the shot put by close to 1mt & Joshua for running his best 200mts for the year taking 1.2secs of his best time.

U11B

What a great day. It began with an alliterative start with the "R" s both Ryan & Rowan getting PBs in the Discus. In the hurdles, Kisho, Will & Ben got PBs. Rowan got his second PB in the 200, while Ethan got his first. Then the Jesse Juggernaut started with SB in the Shot Put, and Eden scored a PB as well. Ethan got his second PB & the only PB in the 800. And we landed in the High Jump with the Juggernaut landing with another SB, and PBs from Ben, Eden & Kisho. See you all next week

U12B

We had 11 boys in attendance which is a good turn-out for this late in the season. Unfortunately the humidity did drain a lot of the energy out of the morning and there were only two PBs - one was in triple jump and the other at the shot put.

U13B

The whole team sure did swallow their quota of bugs for the year. The boys had a great day with a beautiful weather that helped achieve few more PBs. The highlight of the day was the 1500M handicap event where two of our boys, Marcus Panetta and Marco de Paulis ran and finished in 3rd and 4th place respectively, just few seconds behind the first place. Great effort guys!!

U13G

6 girls pushed their way through the sticky, “buggy” morning, with some fantastic performances throughout the day. A huge congrats to April who after competing in the 1500M Middle Distance Handicap went on to complete the 1500M again as a first event, on top of her 5 other events including a new HJ PB & SB. Jess also topped her HJ PB, Maya and Summer & Nat showed some great speed in their 100M, and it was wonderful having Lauren back after a few weeks off. Just 3 more Saturday meets to go – let’s finish the year strong!

U14G The 14Girls saw a few PBs from Annika and Prudence - they have increased their speed to match their long distance prowess.

FAREWELL TO THE OBASEKI FAMILY

As you will see week to week at Foxglove, we have many fab families @ NDLAC, including several who

consistently represent our Club at assorted Championships such as Zone, Regional and State (see above

for some more examples). This includes the Obaseki family, in particular Nosa U13B and Gabriella U9G,

who together with Mum – Heather – have been part of the scenery at NDLAC for many years.

It is with sadness that we recently heard the news of the Obaseki’s moving to Dubbo. Nosa and Gabi will

represent NDLAC one last time at the upcoming State Championships, and we wish them all the best at

the meet and thank the Obaseki family for their significant contribution to NDLAC over the years!

MIDDLE DISTANCE HANDICAP RESULTS – 18 FEB 2017

Last Saturday under blue skies but a damp track, we had 16 athletes compete in our 17th running of the prestigious NDLAC Middle Distance Handicap. Handicap times varied from 16s to 2 min 12 seconds, however the race got very close over the last lap with only 5 seconds separating 1st and 2nd place over the line, just 10 seconds between 1st and 3rd girl, and only 12 seconds between 1st and 3rd boy. Congratulations to Ethan Oliver (U12B) who crossed the line 1st overall (and obviously 1st boy), and Isabelle Cruikshank (U10G) who bravely dug deep from the very beginning to only get passed by Ethan near the end to be the 1st girl. Quite a few all-time bests were achieved, with Josh Silver (U17B) being the fastest boy in just 4min 46.3s and Jemma Gallagher (U17G) being the fastest girl in 5min 15.4s. 2 additional prizes ($5 canteen vouchers) were awarded to the boy and girl whose net running time was closest to a time they nominated before the race started. Unbelievably, Brooke Fury (U11G) and Marco de Paulis (U13B) both predicted their run times to the exact second! The final results are:

TRAINING – THU 2 MAR 2017 (NB: CHANGE OF TIMES & AGE SPLIT)

Martin Smellie will be running our Thursday Training sessions at Foxglove. The next session will be held FOR ALL AGES COMBINED Thursday 2 March from 430pm to 530pm with High Jump & Throws.

Training and practice = more PBs, so athletes are encouraged to attend.

REMINDER – NO DOGS ALLOWED

It is a condition of our ground hire agreement with Hornsby Council that no dogs be allowed on the oval or near the clubhouse while NDLAC events are being conducted. Please leave your beloved pet at home on Saturday mornings. This advice is important because some of our younger children get frightened near unfamiliar animals and many dogs can become distressed by the thunder-like sounds from our starting pistols. Your assistance in this matter is appreciated.

Submit by 7pm Wed to pick up the next Sat meet! This can be done every 6 weeks. There are a wide range of ribbon awards available (4+ PBs in a day, total PB awards, and more). SET UP AND PARENTAL ASSISTANCE 2016/2017 SEASON

Compared to other sports, Little Athletics needs a larger number of parents to help run all events. Parents

find that they get a great deal of enjoyment from active participation in their children’s sport and your

assistance is greatly appreciated.

The minimum requirement is for one parent per family to assist every second week

In addition, each age group is rostered twice each season to assist with setting up the oval before

competition and packing up the oval after the completion of competition.

Please make sure you are at the oval at 7.30am to assist with set-up. You can sign in at the table under

the orange Jetstar tent and get pointed in the right direction to help out!

Set-up and pack-up duties are in addition to parental assistance requirements

COACHING CUES – STANDING START (C/O LANSW)

A good start is key to athletes improving their performances. When doing a standing start:

"On your marks"

• Place one foot forward - behind, not on the line - pointed directly down the track

• Place your other foot back (about one foot space) pointed directly down the track; lift your heel

• Your feet should be about shoulder-width apart

"Set"

• Bend forward at the hips and knees

• Your opposite arm and leg should be forward

• Look at the ground, about one metre in front of your feet

"Go"

• Drive your arms and legs forward

• Step through with the back foot first.
