(Ontario, Canada), world renowned Civil and Structural Bridge Engineer and expert in Civil Engineering Design, Construction, Rehabilitation, Contracts, Disputes & Claims resolution and Business Development. He has completed his PhD from Imperial college, London University in 1966. He has received two gold medals for merit at engineering graduation. He is a member of various professional Civil engineering committees dealing with drafting of codes of practice for design, construction and specifications. He has been a consultant and technical advisor to various remarkable transportation linked causeways, concrete bridges, highway development and rehabilitation projects including bridges, tunnels and culverts in various countries. He has authored 9 practical reference books in Civil Engineering based on his extensive professional experience in several countries. He is a recipient of prestigious S. B. Joshi Citation and award for the “The best bridge and Structural engineer- 2010”. He has more than 80 technical publications in reputed journals. He has been imparting training to senior engineers and academicians across 17 countries in the areas of concrete, bridges and flyover, highway construction covering administration, management and monitoring.

About the Department

R.M.K. Engineering College (RMKEC), started in the year 1995 by the Lakshmikanthammal

Educational Trust, has acquired recognition and public acknowledgement as one of the top ranking institutions in

Tamil Nadu State. In 2008, the College was conferred Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan National Award for its Overall

Performance, followed by the Best Principal Award in the year 2012, by the Indian Society for Technical

Education (ISTE) New Delhi. Our College has been accredited by NAAC with 'A+' Grade. Our institution thhas secured 84 Rank among all Engineering Institutions across India including IITs and NITs in the NIRF 2017

Ranking published by MHRD, Govt. of India. Our institution has been awarded as the "Best Industry linked

Electronics & allied Engineering Institute" (No.1) in the year 2015 and also awarded the prestigious

'PLATINUM' category certification for the four disciplines in the year 2016 in the AICTE-CII Survey of Best

Industry Linked Technical Institutes 2016 in the Country.

The college has been achieving Academic Excellence for the past 22 years and has always been in

the top 10 positions among all the engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University. RMKEC has also been

maintaining an excellent placement record all these years. The College has been rated as one of the 20

engineering institutions across India for having the best academia-industry tie-up based on a CII AICTE Joint

Survey. The college has established Industry Sponsored 15 Centers of Excellence (COE) Laboratories in

various disciplines to provide industry oriented training and skill building to students in niche areas. The College

has been undertaking a lot of activities as a part of its Corporate (Institutional) Social Responsibility to provide

services to the rural areas in and around the College.

The College is located in a picturesque environment at Kavaraipettai at a distance of 30kms from

Chennai on NH5 Chennai - Kolkatta highways near Gummidipoondi which is easily accessible by road and rail

transport.

The Department of Civil Engineering was stared in the academic year 2006-07 with a vision to

impart quality education and to produce professionally competent Civil Engineers accomplishing global needs

with right attitude towards social responsibility with a team of highly qualified faculty with the rich experience in

diversified streams of Civil Engineering. The department is fully equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory

facilities and modern equipments for training students of Civil Engineering and other disciplines for their

interdisciplinary experiments and also carryout Ph.D. level research activities. Since its inception the department

is showing consistent growth in academic excellence and placements. Every year good number of university

ranks are being produced along with gold medal, twice from 2013 and 2016 batch. The department is

maintaining good interaction with industries and has established a Centre of Excellence (CoE) on concrete and

formwork in collaboration with L&T Constructions, Chennai. The department is actively involved in consultancy

activities like material testing, concrete mix design, soil testing, water quality testing and surveying using total

station. The department also organizes Short term training programs, Faculty development programs,

Workshops, Seminars and Value added training programs every year as a part of continuing education for

enhancement and upgradation of faculty's knowledge. The department has been awarded Construction Industry

Awards 2014 for the Excellence in Civil Engineering Education, Outstanding Student Chapter Award of

Tamil Nadu from ICI (Chennai Centre) - Ultra Tech for two consecutive years 2015 & 2016 and Best

Engineering College Student Chapter of India 2017 from the Institution of Engineers India (IEI).
