• Brethren who get Provincial Grand Rank, are selected by the Provincial Executive (PGM, DepPGM, AsstPGM(s), ProvDC, ProvGSec) and recommendations from Grand Officers and or Secretaries

• Appointments to ACTING OFFICE or PAST RANK.

• Past Rank normally recognises work or commitment to Lodges(s) or Province.

• The rank stays with you as long as you are a Mason, and applies in the Province in which you received it.

• Acting Rank is normally recognition of potential future contributions. Many acting offices come with a specific role, but not all of them. But each comes with an expectation to get more involved in the running of the Province.

• The interval of promotion is province dependant, and in Berkshire is normally 6 years. Appointed Acting Rank Officers hold that rank for one year, and then move to an equivalent PAST Rank of the same level.

• One Notable Exception - Promotion to Provincial Grand Steward is more highly regarded than most, as these are conferred normally in the year after IPM, some 4 years ahead of normal promotion, and imply high expectations of future performance.

• Provincial Grand Officers get to wear a Darker Blue Apron and Collar to signify their Rank, except Stewards who wear Red.

• Acting Rank Officers wear larger gold emblems of their office. Past Rank officers wear a small jewel with a blue background and gold emblem.

• A ProvGStwd will always be a Steward – As an Acting Steward he is entitled to wear a Red Apron and Collar, same jewel rules as above, but he retains for life that right to where his red regalia whenever attending any Stewards Lodge (Known as Red Apron Lodges).

time. • Appointments to Grand Rank are few, and to Acting Grand

Rank even more rare, and are normally expectation of notable future potential.

• There are a number of additional ranks at Grand Rank level, more ‘Deputy’ and ‘Assistant’, prompted by the scale of expectation. Unlike Provincial Rank, all Acting Grand Rank Appointments come with a job!
