From the Principal
Hello Everyone
We are pleased to be able to carry out some transition
activities for students joining us in 2021. If you know
of any potential enrolments please encourage them to
contact the school. Year 7 transition contacts are
being planned. This will start with a visit from the Yr 7
home teacher to meet our grade 6s in the coming
weeks.
Please see the term 4 calendar included this week
with transition dates. Remember that dates are
subject to change and will need to fit with Covid
requirements.
Recent Covid changes have seen excursions allowed.
We are grateful to the Alpine School for their support
with this. They have hosted the senior grade this
week and 2/3 will be visiting next week. Not only did
they host but they organised transport and activities,
and provided recess and lunch.
Our staffing 2021 will be Mrs Lynn Principal; teachers
Miss Wong, Mrs Freestone and Mrs Mitchell part
time; education support from Andrea and Frank .
Grade structures are not decided as yet, but will focus
on meeting the needs of students as best we can. Mr
A’s position was linked to a family leave vacancy and
sadly this cannot be continued into 2021. We wish
him, Maila and Max all the best for the future.
I would like to draw your attention to a webinar
supported by the Red Cross and delivered by Dr Rob
Gordon. Next Thursday 29th from 4-5 pm see the links
on pg 5. Dr Gordon has also worked with the DET and
especially East Gippsland Prins this year on
understanding trauma and coping strategies.
Well done to junior school council and school leaders
with the sports afternoon last week, running, obstacle
races, target throw, nails and tattoos all went well.
Respect Inclusion Persistence Enjoyment Excellence
Friday 30th will be a dress up day. Dig out create your
costumes for a little bit of fun. School appropriate
please.
Cheers Trish

known words correctly. Well done.
The middle room congratulates: Erin Lee
For reaching a monumental 2000 positive behaviour points on Class Dojo. Great leadership Erin!
Caleb Gordon For learning how to refocus and direct his attention to the front of the class when ‘transitioning’ from subject to subject in the classroom. Well done Caleb for being one of the first in the class to be ready for the next subject!
School information and news
The state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.
Hello families!
Over the past week we have had some positive lunch
and playtimes. We had a huge game of ‘spotto’ which
involved most of the students all playing together and
working together to hide from me. If I spot them I call
their name “Spotto James” and then James does 10
star jumps before continuing to play! It’s good fun,
and shows the benefit of having some structured
options for students at playtime, and is a great way
for me to have fun with them and build relationships.
During class time I have taken some small groups to
participate in ‘being a good friend’ ‘what I want in a
friend’ and ‘behaviour I can control’ activities. This has
opened up opportunities for important conversations
and has been interesting to be a part of.
I really enjoy the time I’m able to spend with your
children, I would encourage you to be in touch if you
have any suggestions or concerns. And to also
encourage your children to come to me for the same
reasons. I am not at the school as a teacher or an
aid...I am here to support the students and their
families in their social, emotional and mental
health. [email protected] 51591313
(Monday, Tuesday, Friday)
Cheers Ashleigh
FOOD AFFECTS MOOD!
What children eat can affect not only their physical
health but also their mood, mental health and
learning. We have noticed that some children are
having difficulty settling in afternoon activities. Please
see the flyer attached for a ‘Healthy Lunchbox’
Save the Children newsletter https://www.dropbox.com/s/annj808ytmphd4o/Newsletter%2025th%20Ed.pdf?dl=0
Junior Class News
Our fractions knowledge shows that everyone can
identify ½ on shapes. We are working on ½ of many
e.g ½ of 6. Everyone is also able to identify an equal
fraction which is important as we want each part to be
a fair share. My Dad had the saying when sharing
involving cutting – you cut, the other person picks.
We always did our best to make them equal.
We have been using ‘I can’ statements in maths,
which is helping everyone understand the focus of the
lesson and being able to check back in to see our
successes. We are also doing this with reading and
writing. In writing we talk about being the author –
composing and refining our message, using interesting
words etc; and being the secretary- spelling,
grammar, punctuation. The children can easily
identify what they can do and what else they can work
on.
We have been talking about our emotions too. Listing
different emotions, ranking from happy to excited, sad
to miserable etc. This will help us identify emotions
and learn to manage them. Our author study with
Steven Michael King has lots of emotions throughout
the stories and also the importance of being a good
friend. Thankfully we have lots of children who are
good with friendship in our class and school.

Middle Class 2/3 News
Well done to the 2/3 students for improving our
listening skills in the classroom.
Yesterday we caught up with Luke and Penny on
WebEx. It was great to see Luke and Penny after a
long time apart and hear about all their exciting
adventures.
The lost property in our classroom has piled up again
since the start of term. Students are reminded to
always keep put jumpers and hats in in their bags
after use.
In Numeracy this week we have been revisiting chance
and probability, students have enjoyed playing dice
games and completing activities.
During Inquiry, the grade two students have been
learning about how plastic pollutes the environment
and we have been brainstorming ways to minimise
plastic use.
Just a reminder to parents that the Dinner Plain
excursion permission notes are due Friday.
I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend! Mr A
Senior Class News
We have just come back from a visit to the Alpine
School in Dinner Plain and we had heaps of fun
completing team building exercises and doing a walk
to the actual summit of Mount Hotham! We are all
ready for a short week of learning and look forward to
another session of Coding Camp on Wednesday
afternoons and kitchen garden on Thursdays. Last
week we were working on our chopping skills,
preparing semi-dried herbs for selling and planting our
donated seeds from Gippsland Lakes Complete
Health. Plenty of things happening in Senior Class at
the moment!
