OMC honored for excellence in statewide marketing competitionOzarks Medical Center (OMC) has re-ceived statewide recognition for three projects produced by the healthcare system to educate and inform community and area residents.

The Show-Me Excellence Awards, pre-sented annually by the Missouri Associa-tion for Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing (MAHPRM), recognize high achievement and superb quality in adver-tising, marketing and public relations proj-ects produced by hospitals and healthcare systems throughout the state.

Kim Wood (pictured on the right), digital and media relations specialist, won first and third place awards in her first time entering the competition. She won first place in the category of Social/Interactive Media with the Christmas Social Media Engagements, which included a 12-day series of “Ozzy the Elf ” and his journey of care at Ozarks Medical Center. Second and third place in the category went to University of Missouri Health Care-Columbia and Mosaic Life Care-St. Joseph.

Wood won third place in the category of Media Relations Activity for the Hospital Ex-pansion Announcement. Saint Luke’s Health System-Kansas City and St. Louis Children’s Hospital won first and second place respectively.

Melissa Smith (pictured on the left), marketing and public relations manager, brought home a first place award in the category of Special Purpose Publication for its 2018 OMC Medical Group Provider Directory. Second and third place in the category went to SSM Health-St. Louis and Children’s Mercy-Kansas City, respectively.

This was Smith’s seventh Show-Me-Excellence Award. In 2018, she won first place for the 2017 OMC Dice Run of the Mills advertising campaign and third place for the 2017 OMC Blue Jean Ball invitation. In 2017, she won second place for the 2016 OMC Super-hero Fun Run advertising campaign and the “Hey Girl! Keep Calm and Have a Mammo-gram” brochure. In 2016, she won first place for the 2015 OMC Blue Jean Ball advertising campaign and second place for the 2015 OMC Blue Jean Ball invitation.

Should the date be moved, you will be notified through an “Everyone” email and OMC News by Friday, July 19. Thank you for supporting this project and continuing to Be the Change.Project 20/20 UpdateThe Parallel run occured this week, thank you to the users that participated. A PAC meeting was held where transfer, past family social history, and problem list was discussed.

MOB Expansion Construction has StartedOMC Expansion construction work has officially be-gun on the 8th St. side of the Shaw building. Please be aware, especially when exiting 63 North onto 8th St. All parking lots in the area continue to be open and accessible. You can visit https://www.ozarksmedical-center.com/Expansion.aspx.

As pictured, the Eighth Street and Alaska intersection is now a 4-way intersection. This was done in the at-tempt to slow traffic down in this area and the imme-

diate surrounding area. There are currently mobile stop signs on Eighth Street so use caution when entering this intersection as people are becom-ing accustomed to this change. This has been a request as many OMC Coworkers have

Volunteers needed for service dogsHave you seen a service dog around the hospital? Has that ever interested you? There is a need for more volun-teer support dogs at OMC. Dogs must be trained to volunteer, and can do so at the Complete Canine Acade-my in West Plains.

Smeagle is one of the service dogs at OMC. He visited several patients on Tuesday and the nurses on Med Surg even got to spend some time with him!

If you or someone you know with a trained service dog would like to volunteer, please contact volunteer coordi-nator Maria Woodruff at ext. 6810.
