Dear Friends,
If there is one good thing about the season of Lent arriving,
it is that with Lent comes Easter, and with Easter comes
Spring… eventually! Lent is of course the season of prepa-
ration for Easter. It lasts for 40 days (not counting Sundays).
Traditionally, people of faith have prepared themselves by
various forms of spiritual disciplines: spending extra time in
prayer, fasting, reading, serving others, etc. These are
done in an effort to grow in faith and relationship with God.
The challenge in doing these practices is not to confuse the
activities of the disciplines with the actual relationship they
are meant to foster or build up. Just because we read our
devotional books or fast from food or an activity or become
active in an outreach ministry, it doesn’t mean that we will
necessarily make the connection toward building up our re-
lationship with God. Doing something – no matter how
good of a something it is – just to be doing something good,
will not necessarily help us be better disciples or grow in
our relationship with God. We need to do more than just go
through the motions.
What Lent and Easter are really about is Jesus sacrifice for
our forgiveness and eternal life. If we don’t get that, we
miss it all – no matter how many spiritual disciplines we
have practiced. Sometimes we can confuse religion with
faith in Christ. The Pharisees were great at religion: they
From the Pastor’s Desk
2020
From the Pastors Desk cont. did all the right things and followed all the rules. But they
did not know God. What do you need to know God better? I
don’t mean to know God with knowledge, but know God’s
heart with your heart?
Jesus lived and died so that we could be reconciled to God;
God wants to be reunited with each of us and sent Jesus to
demonstrate that. God wants a relationship with you! And if
you already have that relationship, God wants it to grow
stronger. Our Methodist heritage has many qualities to
guide us in this venture. Our worship theme during Lent this
year is “Defining Your Method-ism”. It’s not about doing all
the right activities, it’s about nurturing and understanding
our Christian faith as ‘Methodists’. A devotional book, 40
Days with Wesley by Rueben Job, is available at the church
and is empowering, enlightening, and challenging in its
meditations and teachings. There is no charge for the book
so please pick one up right away!
I hope you will join us for worship this Lent and Easter.
Christ came and died so we can be restored in our relation-
ship with God and find strength and help in our times of
need. Now it’s our turn to intentionally grow that relation-
ship.
See you in worship!

James 5:7
Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the
Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the
land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting
for the autumn and spring rains.
We are asking for volunteers to be ushers and greeters

For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over
and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the
time of singing has come, and the voice of the
turtledove is heard in our land.
