Oleotall products designed with high polyunsaturated fatty acids such as Oleotall BR4-4, are specifically for use in non-yellowing, solvent-based alkyd paints and varnishes. When its reacted with anhydrides and polyols, polyesters suitable for coating types (medium and long) can be produced. Oleotall R1-2 is designed for used where colour and non-yellowing is of prime importance in alkyd resins.

Oleotall products designed with high mono-unsaturated fatty acids are for use in the manufacture of soaps and detergent formulations, and chemical derivatives. These products can be used alone or in combination with our Oleotall distilled tall oils or rosin.

Oleotall R3-3F is a versatile tall oil fatty acid designed to serve a variety of applications. It has higher levels of oleic acid and low cloud point.

Oleotall range of products can be used in the many applications:

Amine derivatives: Oleolene derivatives such as amines and imidazolines commonly function as a corrosion inhibitor in drilling mud applications, and cationic bitumen emulsifiers. They also find use in as textile lubricants and anti-static agents. Fatty esters: fatty esters are used in metal working fluids formulations, particularly in emulsions. Ester solvents with mono-alcohols are used in inks and agricultural applications. Fatty amides: lubricants typically are formulated to include additives performing special functions such as rust inhibitors, anti-wear agents, friction modifiers, and others. Fatty amides, a reaction between fatty acid and diethanolamine, find specific use in these formulations as a friction modifier and corrosion inhibitor. Flotation reagents: Refer to our Mining Chemical brochure

IOP produces a variety of Oleotall distilled tall oil products designed specifically for use in variety of applications, especially metal workings and lubricants. It’s comprised of rosin acids and fatty acids with typical rosin acid range of 20 – 40%, depending on application. Oleotall R30-5 is commonly used as a co-emulsifier in soluble and semi-synthetic metal working formulations. It also find use as a mould release agents (10% in formulation) for concrete and clay products when mixed with non-polar solvents such as diesel (90%). Benefits: Oleotall products provides craws on metal surfaces and acts as an excellent dispersant for cuttings. Rosin acids increase bio-resistance in metal working formulations compared to fatty acids, reducing the need of adding bioactivity agents.

Benefits for adding Oleotall DTO in metalworking formulations: Improved emulsion stability over fatty acids Lubricity for boundary lubrication needs Better hard water tolerance than fatty acids Oleotall DTO range of products can be used in the following applications: Amine derivatives: Oleotall derivatives such as imidazolines commonly function as a corrosion inhibitor in drilling mud applications, and medium setting cationic bitumen emulsifiers. DTO esters: DTO esters are used in the production of high viscosity pentaerythritol esters used in lubricants and drilling mud applications. Other applications: Oleotall R30-5 can be used as an emulsifier for oil extended SBR latex and for metalworking oils, as a base for alkyd resins, as an anionic flotation reagent and as an asphalt emulsion additive.
