Work with, build and edit web pages Use programs such as Photoshop, Flash,
Illustrator and Dreamweaver Do other normal Intern functions: moral support,
physical labor

Goals: Redesign the Livelink desktop to reflect new LSG division
changes Create a simple and fast way for people to navigate the
NASD section especially for outside sales support
Results: Increased efficiency and accessibility by reducing file size
as much as 76%, using new rich-media technologies such as (Flash)
Easy for people on dial-up to access

Intramall: A restricted website portal accessible by the NIH and
USDA to purchase Bio-Rad products (ecommerce B2B) Goals:
Relay the Bio-Rad message and overall product offerings Ensure Bio-Rad branding throughout all media
Mimic the look of printed Intramall-related materials used by sales representatives to promote the site
Results: Provides purchasers with a quick reference table of Bio-
Rad products, services and contact information.

information and activities Design an easily accessible site for modifications

while incorporating the chosen theme for 2005. Keep it very simple!

Goals: Act as a shopper on Bio-Rad’s online store Browse online catalogs Look for the appearance of software bugs
Results (Findings): Minor cross-browser functionality issues; problems with
layout No genes in a bottle presentation! Free Bio-Rad equipment and products!
Was a well hidden, but large, bug Caused certain accounts to see products costing $ 0.00 Was exposed only when a certain user type browsed through the
online catalog outside of account designated purchase areas Even allowed users to confirm purchases without requesting
payment; would have cost Bio-Rad a lot of $$$
What I have Learned
Design best practices - accessibility and usability in site design
The value of a “well polished” look and feel How to send intra-office mail (a big lesson) What it’s like to work in a large corporate
community
