Samuel Naditz to Daniel Amza- lak, dated Sept 22, 1943; $20,000; made by 215 $ast Ave Corp, Increase in Sales 1 - • .fir Shown for '44 by 1,099 Corporations A summary of selected income data, prepared by the staff of the Securities and Exchange Commis- sion, shows that 1,099 corporations had net sales aggregating $78,- 410,071,000 in 1944, compared with $30,702,534,000 for the 1,055 cor- porations reporting comparable data in 1940. The survey also shows that net profits before income taxes also increased regularly from 1940, when they amounted to $3,734,- 341,000, to $8,294,192,000 in 1944. Net profit, after income taxes or the amount carried to surplus by the companies covered, amounted to $2,571,784,000 in 1940, $3,134,- 863,000 in 1941, then declined to $2,630,439,000 in 1942, and rose again to $2,758,208,000 in 1943, and $2,997,109,000 in 1944. In a table accompanying the survey, it is shown that income taxes, as a per cent of net profit before income taxes, were 31.1 per cent in 1940, 51.3 per cent in 1941, 62.7 per cent dn 1942, 62.5 per cent in 1943, and 63.9 per cent in 1944. It is pointed out, however, that income-tax data as shown in the table included excess-profits taxes since 1940, but are net of post-war credits on excess-profits taxes and claims for credits for "carry-back" refunds of income and excess-profits taxes. i__j BIRTHS Apr 27-John G Wells, York. 29—DeForest L Bugbee, South Lima. 30—William Connell, 507 Oxford. Shown for '44 by 1,099 Corporations

A summary of selected income data, prepared by the staff of the Securities and Exchange Commission, shows that 1,099 corporations had net sales aggregating $78,-410,071,000 in 1944, compared with $30,702,534,000 for the 1,055 corporations reporting comparable data in 1940.

The survey also shows that net profits before income taxes also increased regularly from 1940, when they amounted to $3,734,-341,000, to $8,294,192,000 in 1944.

Net profit, after income taxes or the amount carried to surplus by the companies covered, amounted to $2,571,784,000 in 1940, $3,134,-863,000 in 1941, then declined to $2,630,439,000 in 1942, and rose again to $2,758,208,000 in 1943, and $2,997,109,000 in 1944.

I t is pointed out, however, that income-tax data as shown in the table included excess-profits taxes since 1940, but are net of post-war credits on excess-profits taxes and claims for credits for "carry-back" refunds of income and excess-profits taxes.
