Purpose of this reiki:

brings success grants wishes gives protection spiritual benevolence

Okubo

These strips of paper with the names of god are found in homes, temples and halls across Japan. They bring the protection and good luck of a natural spirit, known as a Kami, into human buildings. A temple will bless the item and then it is displayed near a corner altar.

Shinto is a practice of respect and reverence for Nature. It is believed that trees, rocks, ponds, mountains ... the sun and sky and moon... all have their own importance and a spirit who can help or harm humans. So shrines and temples are set up to honor the spirits, known as Kami. And home altars may have a simple branch of cherry blossoms, a bowl for humble food offerings, an incense burner. And okubo strips of paper.

So for our purposes we could have an okubo with the symbols of Reiki upon it to honor our own healing energies and reiki spirit helpers.

Omamori

Temples around Japan sell very popular souvernir good-luck charms, with blessed papers wrapped in brightly colored cloth bags. These are called omamori. You carry them in your car, on your backpack to school, in your wallet... they bring success in studies, money, romance, safe travel.

They last only one year and then must be returned to the temple. Fun omamori with pictures of popular anime cartoon heroes and animals are used for decoration and don't change your luck.

Again, you can make your own omamori and bless them with reiki energy. You can re-bless them once a year.

Fire Offerings

From India comes the tradition of offering humble foods to a campfire, including butter, brown rice, meat, wine. Fire is known as the god Agni. Pronounced Ug-nee.

Agni helps you to connect to the rest of the god and goddesses who can sway events in your favor.

So there is a blessing and washing of your own self, with water and reiki energy. Then building the fire pit with reverence. Then starting the fire.

Then adding the offerings with a call to Agni. Ask him to help you speak to the god or goddess of your desires. More offerings. Ask your wish. See your wish in your mind clearly. Chant or hum or sing. It doesn't truly matter, just get the energy of the ritual out into the world.

Then shut the ritual down, and you're done.

Nine Syllable Spoken Charm (Kuji)

In the olden days you might say this charm when hiking in the woods to keep away bandits and wild animals. Now we might say them in a city to keep away thieves.

This charm is also used by martial arts students and is even shown in some Japanese cartoons. It is not so well known outside of Asia.

It appeals to the Taoist ancestral spirit generals of China.

“lin bing dou zhe jie shu zu qian xing” which to English speakers sounds like “lin bing doh zhoouh jeeah shoo zoo tsee-an zing” is the Chinese way.

“rin pyo to sha kai jin retsu zai zen” is how it is spoken in Japan. (kai and zai rhyme with cry)

You say the charm softly and hold your hands together reverently. (Gassho) Some people add buddhist ideas and Hindu hand gestures but it is not necessary. A reiki healer

could add reiki energy and imagine a white bubble of protection.

Nine Syllable Cuts

Some people cut the air down or across alternating with each syllable. Very martial arts stuff for those who like it. The syllables mean “Celestial warriors, form ranks and advance!”
