Harris Pye offers in-situ repair, upgrade and conversion of rigs,semisubmersibles, trading tankers, FSU, FSO, FPSO and FSRU units, andinspection and consulting services for the LNG industry. Our state- of-the-art, in-house facilities enable us to provide comprehensive overhaul,conversion and refurbishment services. Our expertise includesautomation and control engineering; electrical work, construction steelworks, high and low-pressure pipework, specialist welding, heattreatment and mechanical works, including pumps and compressors,HVAC, accommodation modules and outfitting. We were involved inpioneering projects in the 1980s, when FPSOs and FSOs were stillexperimental. We made key contributions to developing the safe use ofdual fuel for boilers, as well as safe and practical application andinstallation methods. We have been involved in more than 45% of theworld's FPSOs from conversions to new builds.

Engineering DesignEngineering design is a series of stepswhich leads towards a complete solution.The lifecycle of a project is usuallyinitiated by a conceptual design or designrequirement. This process can then bebrainstormed and a preliminary feasibilityof the ideas and designs can be collated.This may consist of preliminary sketches,analytical decisions on the materials,construction, installation, manufacturingand fabrication process, maintenance,financial feasibility and the timescale ofthe project.

Once the plans have beenfinalised, the review processis required to investigate theenvironmental impact andefficiency of the design.

Design ProcessAll designs will be to a regulatory code orstandard, which outline the minimumrequirements for a particular region orarea. The codes and standards alsoprovide the analysis procedures requiredfor different types of structures. Thepurpose of these regulatory codes orstandards are to ensure a safe design lifefor the intended purpose of thestructure/building, in all eventualities.

Project PlanningDuring planning, we detail all stages ofthe project timescale, design andanalysis, construction/installation andmaintenance.

Project ExecutionHarris Pye offers a full turnkey solutionfor all client’s projects if required.

We can handle everything from the initialclient enquiry and on-site survey, throughto detailed design engineering, on-siteinstallation and final commissioning. Asenior project engineer is available 24/7and is able to mobilise at any time. HarrisPye ensures after sales support for allprojects undertaken.

Structural SteelHarris Pye is a key player in the provisionof marine and offshore structuralsteelwork, with our own in-house design,engineering, fabrication, installation andquality departments. This allows us toprovide full turnkey project packages toclients.

We have our own (class approved)welding and fabrication procedures,which eliminates the need for anyadditional costs to our clients.

With a vast range of the latesttechnology (including our own 3D LaserScanner and stress analysis software) wecan provide a second to none stress andalignment analysis service.

We offer the highest qualityand grades of materials toensure we meet therequirements of our clientsand also classification societyapproval.

The fabrication workshop located in southWales is 98m x 46m, with two overheadgantries providing a 30 tonne liftingcapacity with 5m of head room. The sameworkshop has large roller shutter doors ateither end allowing for materials to enterthe workshop via the material controldepartment and straight in to the cutting

The welding section has an Armcocolumn and boom submerged arc-welding machine that can competentlyweld 4.5m in diameter, over a 6m trackwith roll manipulators. Our manualwelding capabilities are extensive, withhundreds of coded welders and weldingprocedures.

In the Group’s UK workshop there arelarge areas of floor space which can beutilised for laying out and for fabricationassembly.

In addition to this, we have our own in-house blasting bay and separatetemperature controlled paint bay. Withinour main workshop, we have segregatedstainless steel pipework and fabricationshops.

The cutting section has a guillotine withthe ability to cut 20mm plate over a 3mlength. It also has a CNC plasma andflame cutting facility, capable of cutting100mm thick plate on a 2m x 4m bed.

Within the rolling department, there aretwo sets of plate rolls able to roll from5mm up to 65mm thickness over a 3mwidth, and able to pre-bend 55mm plate.There is also a section roll able to rollpipes up to 6 inches schedule 80.

We have two Pedrazzoli tube bendingmachines, with the capacity to bend to amaximum of 76mm OD X 6mm wall, aswell as various tube reshaping andpressing machines.

PipeworkThe full design service includes initialsurvey; production of drawings for Classapproval by way of a full CAD system; andpreparation of a full scope of work andspecification of materials. The design,supply and installation process is carriedout in full accordance with Harris Pye’sISO 9001:2008 Quality Assurance system.This system ensures full traceability of allaspects of a particular project.

Harris Pye offers clients a full design andinstallation service for pipework and highpressure pipe line systems. Mechanical ServicesEngine OverhaulHarris Pye can offer a full overhaul andreconditioning service for all types ofengine. The service can be provided viariding squads, or at our fully equippedworkshops operated by fully trained andexperienced repair technicians.

In-Situ MachiningUsing our own portable grindingequipment, we are able to offer on-sitereconditioning of the following items:liner landing faces, entablature landingfaces, and valve pocket landing faces. Offshore RetrofitHarris Pye offers full turnkey solutions forinstallation and integration of retrofitand 3rd party equipment. Our in house engineering and designteam complete a full feasibility andintegration study. A completeengineering package is assembled andsubmitted for class approval, as andwhen required.

Once approved the scope of work can beexecuted accordingly, with fabricationbeing completed within one of our manyworkshop ideally situated across theglobe to meet any of our client logisticalneeds.

Once site installation is ready forexecution we can mobilise from any ofour stations -again based globally-withhigh skilled and trained professionalswho have experience with shipyard andoffshore works.

Hazardous AreasAs a Group, Harris Pye offers surveys ofelectrical systems within hazardous areason board operational and new-buildMODUs. This is completed by qualifiedCompex inspectors to IEC and APIstandards. The Eex register is compiledfor individual Eex fittings, each beingphotographed with position mapping forinitial remedial work, future surveys andmonthly maintenance requirements.

Operational RigsOn operational rigs we can use thevessel's existing Eex register and thehazardous area zone drawing to inspectall items which should be classified asEex. During this process, the inspectorslook for the correct zone rating, correctinstallation of equipment, correctlabelling and tagging, any existingdamage to the equipment, equipmentinstallation in the incorrect zone or not onthe register, and likewise for equipmenton the register which has since beenremoved.

From here, our team are ableto draw up a new register oramend the existing one todisplay all findings.

We also draw up a schedule to highlightfaults found, including a recommendedcourse of action to rectify these. All workscopes are carried out by qualifiedCompex Inspectors.

New-Build RigsFor new-build rigs, Harris Pye works inconjunction with shipyards on the as-built BOM and hazardous area zonedrawings. From here, the teams are ableto inspect all equipment within thedefined hazardous areas, as describedearlier. The inspectors then record anyfaults so that corrective measures can beimplemented. They simultaneouslyprovide a detailed schedule for allequipment inspected, specifying themanufacturer, model, zone rating, zoneclass where equipment is installed, serialnumber, gas group, temperature group,certifying authority and their referencenumber. Alongside the listed information,each piece of equipment will have aphotograph included for reference. Inconjunction with this, a set of griddeddrawings will be made, to show individualpieces of equipment and their locations.

ProtectiveCoatingsProtective coatings for tube plateprotection are 100% solid polymericepoxies, formulated to cope withconditions such as abrasion, corrosion,contamination and galvanic action.

Deck BoilersThese boilers, which are intendedprimarily for use on marine installations,can easily be adapted and modified foruse in any number of applications wherethere is a requirement for power and / orprocess steam.

Each boiler package will be custom-designed to meet the requirements ofindividual customers. We can undertakeall aspects of the design in-house. Theseinclude - but are not limited to - thermaldesign and associated activities, skid andmodule design and layout, includingstress analysis, as well as navalarchitecture requirements.

Harris Pye will be responsible for allaspects of design engineering,manufacture, installation andcommissioning, including aftercare of theboilers and all associated module plantand equipment.

All boilers are designed andmanufactured in accordancewith ASME and BPVC .

The boilers and associated equipment areavailable either fully assembled or in flatpack form from the Harris Pyemanufacturing facilities in the UK, China,UAE, Singapore or Brazil.

Heat Exchangers and CondensersHarris Pye offers a worldwide service forheat exchangers and condensers.

Tube InsertsWe can restore many failed units to fullworking order, where the defect is knownto be tube-end corrosion or erosion, byway of the tube insert method.

Chemical andMechanical CleaningOur cleaning system utilises severalmethods, including Teflon coated jetbrushes that are propelled through thetubes at high speeds using compressedair and water. In addition to this, we haveseveral other types of cleaning methodsavailable.

InspectionsInspections, with the aid of three ballmicrometres and full colour video opticequipment, are carried out by a team oftechnicians prior to repairs.

Skid ManufactureThe Group has all the engineeringdisciplines in-house to complete themechanical, electrical and instrumentationrequirements of the skid.

The skids are manufactured in one of ourmany global facilities, depending on theclient's region of operation' and if requiredthey can be installed and commissioned.

Harris Pye has built a solid reputation forboth engineering design and manufactureof various skid mounted equipment foroffshore and onshore hydrocarbonrecovery and treatment applications.

Pumping, cooling, water treatment, ROand steam injection for recovery are allapplications where Harris Pye has suppliedmultiple clients with batches of skids.

The Group has all theengineering disciplinesin-house to complete themechanical, electrical andinstrumentationrequirements of the skid.

Our experience in carbon, stainless andmore exotic duplex materials means thatall requirements can be met locally. Thisreduces the time needed to put theequipment to work for meetingproduction targets. Full materials andequipment selection is also available, andwe will cooperate with specified subsuppliers if applicable.

Outfitting CapabilitiesHarris Pye has gained a formidablereputation over the years for the design,manufacture and installation of a myriadof elements, which allows us to providecomplete packages.

We create the right designsolution tailored to theclient’s needs and budgets.

From our specialist workshops, we cancarry out all elements of themanufacturing process in-house, to thehighest standards. Installations can becarried out by our skilled fitters duringrefits, new builds or whilst in serviceworldwide, via our mobile work squads.

DesignOperating both in marine and land basedenvironments, our outfitting departmentoffers bespoke design concept services toour clients, ensuring that the bestsolution is chosen to meet needs andbudgets. Our in-house design team uses

state-of-the-art, 360 degree scanningequipment and software to designminutely accurate solutions, and createstunning walkthrough 3D designs. Thisnegates errors whilst ensuring fastturnaround.

We work with the client’s contractors,ship builders and managers to arrive atthe most suitable layout, products andcoverings.

Accommodation ModulesThe modules offered by Harris Pye come ina range of sizes: 12.2m/40ft, 9.8m/32ft,7.8m/26ft and 6.1m/20ft. Modules can bemade to accommodate 1, 2, 4 or 8 mendepending on the cabin layouts andnumber of bunks per cabin specified.

Our modules can be delivered with eitherA60 windows or A60 hatches. In addition,all modules are equipped with wet roomsin each cabin. Modules can also be H60fire-rated if required, and are compliantwith current SOLAS regulations.

The standard features of our modulesinclude DNV (BS EN 12079) or ABScertification, HVAC system, A60 or H60fire-rating, fire and gas detection system,sprinkler system, emergency lighting, fullautomatic shutdown (CPFG panels –optional), fire dampers, PA/TV/Tel socketsand connections. Modules can be adaptedto suit a variety of needs including, but notlimited to, galleys, recreation rooms,canteens, laundries, locker rooms andoffices.

Accommodation modules can be utilisedas either standalone units or linked andstacked together to form multi-purpose,multi-level accommodation complexes.Linking kits are waterproof, providing awatertight barrier, and are supplied witheach module. The structures are designedto link together efficiently and thusminimise valuable installation time.

Manufacture andInstallationOur highly skilled and experiencedoutfitters ensure that all stages ofprogramming and works undertakencomply with all the latest class andquality assurance regulations. Ourservices are guaranteed accordingly.

Many clients require turnkey packages, soit’s common for our department to workwith other divisions within the Group onlarge projects. This greatly aids theplanning and execution of extensive workscopes.

Installations are carried out both duringvessel refits and whilst the ship is inservice. The latter requires a riding squadof engineers and fabricators. We are wellversed in this practice, with personnel onstandby to travel at short notice and towork at sea for extended periods onscheduled projects.

Galleys and BespokeStainless SteelWe have vast experience of installinggalley equipment on ships worldwide, andworking to tight deadlines.

We design, manufactureand install state-of-the-artgalleys.

These are completely built on ourpremises so that clients can view theinstallation prior to fitting. Theemergence of Norovirus on cruise vesselshas led to enhanced regulations forhygiene standards on ships. Theseparticularly apply to the constructionmethods used to manufacture foodpreparation facilities. Both the UnitedStates Public Health (USPH) and UnitedKingdom Public Health (UKPH) agenciesare placing great emphasis on thesematters. All our marine installationscomply stringently with both USPH andUKPH requirements.

Harris Pye also has an excellent trackrecord in onshore projects – namelystainless steel pipework. Our teams offercomplete solutions, from design andmanufacture to installation, according tothe client’s requirements. The team hascompleted extensive projects, includingfood preparation areas, galley equipment,beverage stations, galley troughs,washrooms, deck clearing stations, barsand pantries.

Marine and OffshoreRefrigeration and HVACRefrigeration Provision Plant /Cold RoomsOur highly qualified and experiencedteam offers a full design service,including insulated cold rooms for chilland deep freeze, and a repair service forall refrigeration equipment - compressors,condensers, evaporators, receivers, oilseparators and more. We use state-of-the-art equipment and deal with all theleading manufacturers, such as Carrier,York, Bitzer and Sabroe Daikin.

Our team can also retrofit refrigerants toconform with the latest legal (flag state)requirements.

Air Conditioning SystemsWe offer full design of new systems orrepair / upgrade of existing systems,including all refrigeration equipment,AHUs (air handling units), ductwork, firedampers, air outlets, insulation (thermaland fire), and full electrical and automaticcontrols, all of which fully conform toclassification requirements.

We offer turnkey chilledwater design, supply andinstallation packages.

We also offer packaged air conditioningunits for engine control rooms, cargocontrol rooms and smaller workshopareas, with a full range of explosion-proof, zone-rated equipment.

Cargo SystemsIn addition to the above, we offerservicing, repair and overhaul forclassification requirements for cooling(primary) for L.P.G. cargo systems andinert gas cooling systems, along with allrefrigerated cargo plants.

HVAC DuctworkOur experienced teams offer full design,manufacture and installation of HVACductwork.

Our system offers excellent thermal andacoustic performance in a fire-safesystem, providing an economical andefficient solution.

Thespecialist teams offer maintenance ofinsulated plant and equipment, acousticinsulation solutions for noise problemsand passive fire protection.

For the marine fire divisions we are ableto offer expert assistance and advice inthe design and installation of firedivisions the group offers access to anextensive knowledge database oninsulation issues associated with criticalareas such as engine rooms, vehicledecks, bulkheads, deckheads andpenetrations.

The insulation division is able to offerwhole of life vessel support andmaintenance arrangements for firedivisions including supply and installationof other fire boundary devices such asdoors, dampers and penetrations, profilewrap fire divisions, modular panelsystems as well as high temperatureexhaust system insulation in adherenceto classification society requirements.

Our team has extensiveexperience withinconventional marine andhigh-speed craft industry.
