Evergreen Line

The Board of the Oakdale HeritageSociety was invited to a meeting with TomKearns, Project Manager. Mr. Kearnsanswered our questions, provided anoverview of the public consultation processthus far, & introduced the upcoming Environmental Assessment application.

The Environmental Assessment is akey time for public input. The Assessmentcovers design considerations for noise,

aesthetics, berms, & environmental impact.Public input will be incorporated into theEnvironmental Assessment application forthe project. Once the province accepts theapplication, it becomes the standard to

which the project must adhere. So, if youare concerned about, or interested in, how the Evergreen Line will look, sound, & how it will impact the neighbourhood, this is thestage to become involved.

Consumer Watch & An Easy 10 bucks

Most major stores in Canada aresignatories to the Scanner Price AccuracyCode. If you get your purchase to the counter,& the price in the till differs from the pricedisplayed on the shelf, the store owes you $10 onitems over $10. For items less than $10, thestore must give you the item for free. Yep, that·sspelt f-r-e-e, free. We have witnessed a shoppermake the claim, & the store civilly handed over

the requisite $10. If you don·t get resolution atthe store, call 1-866-499-4599, the CompetitionBureau of Canada

WackyCake

This recipe originated during World  War II when eggs were in short supply.Rather than give up chocolate cake, folks

used vinegar & baking soda to give this cakea perfect consistency. It·s a simple recipe -kids can make it with minimal supervision,& tastes great.

Dry Ingredients

1 ½ cups flour 1 tsp. baking soda1 cup sugar 1 tsp. baking powder3 tblsp cocoa ½ tsp. salt

Wet Ingredients

1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter

1 tblsp vinegar1 tsp vanilla1 cup warm water

Mix dry ingredients in 8µ square pan. Shaketo level off. Make 3 holes in the mixture (astraw works); pour oil into one, vinegar inanother, and vanilla into the last hole. Pourwarm water over all. Mix thoroughly with afork.

OR combine all the ingredients in anelectric mixer & mix until smooth.

Bake at 350 for 30 minutes, or until testerinserted into the middle of the cake comesout clean.

Icing

While the cake is still hot, cover withchocolate chips. Once they soften, spreadover the cake with a knife.

Cool & serve.
