    MARCH 2007

    COMMANDERS THOUGHTS

    WANTED: NEW IDEAS!

Things in the unit have been really going well so how do we make the unit even better? The easiest way is to suggest something that you will think will help the unit throughyour chain of command.

Very soon, both the adults and cadets will be given a survey of things they would like todo. I encourage everyone to take this survey seriously since it will guide our unitsactivities over the next few months.

The squadron leadership will look at each and every idea and determine how to prioritizeit. We have a finite amount of time and an infinite number of things we can do as a unit. Therefore, we need to look at very carefully. We want to give our members plenty of

opportunities to do the things they enjoy most about CAP. But not every idea can beused nor can everyone do everything the unit offers.

We also do not want our members to have CAP burnout which believe it or not is verycommon in our organization. Choose what areas you want to focus on and attend thosefirst. If time allows look at attending some of the other various functions. You may besurprised to find out you like something else even better. Be willing to give everything achance.

Keep up the great work, there is a lot more to come!

As always, if you have any concerns our suggestions please let me know.

    Dave Waite, Lt Col, CAPCommander

    Pluto versus T-34?

Once a member qualifies in an ESspecialty beyond General ES, theyreauthorized to wear the ES Patchabove their name tag on the BDUs.There are two different patches thatcan be worn, the Pluto or the T-34patches.

Capt Mike Scott - Supply Officer, needs to know who prefers the T-34 Patch, since they cannot be bought from Vanguard. Theyre $3.50 per patch versus the$1.50 Pluto patches.

Note: The wear of the patch must be approved in Operations Qualifications(M.I.M.S.). See your Flight Commander for more information.

Unit Receives Grant from Air ForceAssociation

The General Curtis E. LeMay Offutt Composite Squadron was one of only 20units nation-wide that recently received a $250.00 Grant from the Air Force

Association to be used for Aerospace Education.

To support Civil Air Patrols aerospace education programs, the Air ForceAssociation provides aerospace education grants for Civil Air Patrol units. Since1996, they have provided over $100,000 to CAP units and teachers to help fund

their aerospace education programs. The Air Force Association communicatesdirectly with the American public about the importance of maintaining a soundaerospace infrastructure and the importance of maintaining a strong Air Force toensure national security. Another important part of their educational efforts is tosupport the educational objectives of the Air Force and Civil Air Patrol. As part ofthat support, they recognize outstanding contributions in the field of aerospaceeducation.

According to the unit's Aerospace Education Officer, 2Lt Ben Starzyk, the moneywill "be used to buy aerospace educational material for the unit and to help tostart a model rocketry program". The unit also hopes to expand its flight

simulator program that is used to help the cadets learn the basics of flying.

    BACKGROUND

Recruiting is an essential tool to guarantee a Squadron's success. Every so often, CAP has arecruiting campaign. The last one ended in September 2006. However, members should not waitfor a campaign to recruit potential members.

$10 Gift from Sportys Pilot Shop, Brigade Quartermaster, or the Hock Shop. Same provisions aslisted above.

GRAND PRIZE - The cadet who recruits the most qualified cadets or senior members forCAP by 31 May will receive entry fees for the Region Summer Encampment (No substitutions!).
