DUAL COMPOUNDNEK 606 Offshore Cables
The objective of CONTROLCAVI INDUSTRIA was to develop a cable whichwill perform some of the most inhospitable conditions imaginableSaline atmosphere, UV radiation, extremes of temperature, hydrocarbons,oils, drilling fluids and muds while still maintaining the highest levels ofsafety for personnel requiring.High levels of flame retardance with zero emissions of halogens and toxicgases, which can endanger life and the safety of installation.
By developing a sheathing compound which meets the demands of allthese criteria with outstanding fire performance and high level of resistanceto atmospheric and chemical attack, CONTROLCAVI INDUSTRIA can offerowners and operators the perfect solution for the transmission of allelectrical energy, from mV signals to Medium tensions.
The result of this development is a cable with properties far in excess of therequirements stipulated in NEK 606 and associates IEC specifications. Inaddition, the conductors, insulating and sheathing compounds have thefollowing unique properties:
DUAL COMPOUND sheathing which is both halogen free andresistant to drilling fluids, muds and associates environmental conditions.
EASE OF INSTALLATION always an important consideration,for medium to large cross sectional cables, from the conceptual designthrough to the final installation with the unique conductor configuration ofmulti stranded class 2 tinned conductors which have the electricalresistance of “traditional” minimal strand conductors.CONTROLCAVI INDUSTRIA have developed a unique solution whichreduces total installation costs by offering a significant reduction inbending radius and speed of installation.

COLD BEND AND IMPACT (CSA C22.2) –40 Deg Cwith the search of hydrocarbons in ever more inhospitable climates andincreased use of FPSO vessels which can find themselves operating inextremes of temperature from one field to another, all cables manufacturedby CONTROLCAVI INDUSTRIA can be installed and operate attemperatures down to –40 Deg Centigrade.(test witnessed by ABS, DNV and LRS)
HEPR INSULATION in order to increase the insulating properties,and, as a result the current carrying capacity of 0,6/1 kV cables andabove, CONTROLCAVI INDUSTRIA have developed High ModulusEthylene Propylene Rubber (HEPR) compound.This offers superior insulation constant (Ki) and significantly improvedageing performance at higher operating temperatures than the traditional85 Deg C EPR compounds. These results can be seen below on the ARRHENIUSGRAPH obtained by performing the Thermal Endurance Evaluation accordingto IEC 60216, where Temperature Index achieved has been Ti = 114 Deg C(witnessed by ABS, DNV and LRS)

GeneralsSome parameters affecting operational chacteristics of the cablesmentioned in this catalog
CONDUCTOR RESISTANCEIt is the most important parameter of the conductor sizing related to:ρ conductor resistivity [Ω / mm 2/m]l conductor length [km]A cross area [mm 2]t temperature [Deg C]f frequency [Hz]
For low frequencies, conductor resistance is equal to DC condition.
R = ρ • l / A [Ω]
Temperature influence is calculated as:
Rt = R20 (234,5 + t) / 254,5 [Ω]
where:Rt conductor resistance [Ω]R20 conductor resistance at 20 Deg C [Ω]t conductor temperature [Deg C]Conductor resistance increases with frequency.
INSULATION RESISTANCEIt’s a peculiar characteristic of the insulation material.An higher value of insulation resistance means larger insulating capacityof the insulation.The "insulation resistance constant Ki" is calculated from the measuredinsulation resistance by the following formula:
Ki = l • R • 10-11 / (log10D / d) [MΩ • km]
where:R measured insulation resistance [Ω]l length if the cable [m]D outer diameter of the insulation [mm]d inner diameter of the insulation [mm]
39
REACTANCEIn a cable operating in a.c. it is related mainly to axial distance betweenconductors.For 2 - 3 - 4 conductors the reactance per phase could be calculated as:
X = 2 • π • f • L • I [Ω]
f frequency [Hz]L Induction [H/m]l core length [m]L Induction Is calculates as follows:
L = 0,2 [(ln 2a / d) + 0.25] • 10-6 [H/m]
a distance between cores [mm]d core diameter [mm]
MEDIUM VOLTAGE CABLES - REACTANCE
IMPEDANCEZ = √ (R2 + X2) [Ω]

MUTUAL CAPACITANCELow mutual capacitance causes small distorsion of the signal.Digital signal transmissions are sensible to this features. Is affected by:- type of conductor construction (increasing of conductor size means
larger capacitance)- insulation thickness (inversely proportional)
ATTENUATIONIt is defined as the decreasing, in signal amplitude, over the total length ofthe cable. Its value increases with the frequency increasing.Minimizing the attenuation means long distance transmission withoutamplification and no distorsions.
INTERFERENCESAre defined as all the noises influencing the signal transmission.They are produced internally the cable (i.e. cross talk) and externally (i.e.power equipments or HF generators).Both can be reduced by using suitable screenings.

CURRENT DETERMINATION according to power and voltageIn case of three-phase systems, determination of the current Intensityrelated to power and voltage can be easily calculated by using:
I = 722 kW / V I = 578 kVA / V I = 531 HP / V
where
I = current intensity [A]V = rated voltage [V]kW = power(cos ϕ = 0.8) [kW]kVA = power [kVA] HP = horse power [HP]
