Welcome!  Hello,

My  name  is  Kayla  Perna  and  I  am  the  volunteer  coordinator  of  this  year’s  summer  colour  festival  in  Hamilton  called  ‘A  Midsummer’s  Dream’.       The  event  takes  place  in  Gage  Park  on  Saturday,  August  15th  2015.  It  is  based  on  a  Hindu  festival  called  “Holi”,  a  festival  of  colours  where  people  celebrate  the  triumph  of  good  over  evil  by  throwing  colourful  powdered  dye  on  each  other.  It  is  truly  a  beautiful  and  magnificent  thing.

2015’s  festival  is  set  to  be  bigger  than  ever  with  more  food  donations,  more  people  and  contributing  more  to  the  community.  We  are  looking  for  volunteers  to  help  promote  the  festival,  and  volunteer  on  the  day  of  the  festival  to  earn  their  community  service  hours.

We  are  recruiting  volunteers  from  all  the  different  high  schools  and  volunteer  organizations  across  Hamilton,  as  well  as  Living  Rock  Ministries.  This  will  be  a  great  learning  opportunity  for  teens  to  meet  new  people,  have  fun  and  be  part  of  something  great  for  the  community.

I  can’t  wait  to  see  you  there.

Our Mission Our  mission  is  simple:  to  bring  joy,  to  celebrate  diversity,  to  spread  love  and  to  give  back  to  the  community  that  has  invested  so  much  in  us.

Our Goals and Objectives Like  every  year,  we  aim  to  bring  a  day  of  peace  to  the  community.  This  year,  we  are  planning  to  continue  to  raise  our  number  of  food  donations.  Currently,  we  have  raised  over  5,000  pounds  of  food  for  food  shares  in  Hamilton.  This  year,  donations  will  be  going  to  Living  Rock  Ministries  for  street-‐involved  youth.

The Importance of a Volunteer We  could  not  successfully  put  on  this  festival  every  year  if  we  didn’t  have  our  volunteers.  It  is  their  passion  and  dedication  that  truly  pulls  the  whole  event  together.  We  value  those  who  volunteer  their  time  with  us,  and  in  return  we  hope  to  give  them  the  most  rewarding  experience  possible.

Volunteering – Duties and Expectations For  those  who  volunteer  with  us  can  expect  a  bulk  of  their  volunteering  done  on  the  day  of  the  festival,  Saturday,  August  15  and  will  be  managed  by  a  Volunteer  Coordinator.  Duties  and  expectations  include:

• Setting up the festival • Handing out surveys and flyers • Collecting donations • Aiding other ventures such as art spaces at the festival • Clean-up • Running errands • Keeping a positive attitude

In  addition,  we  will  be  hosting  pre-‐festival  promotional  events  for  those  who  want  to  keep  their  volunteer  experience  climbing.  These  may  include:

• Being on the “Dreamers Street Team” and handing out flyers at special events in the Hamilton area to promote the festival

• Helping with poster and flyer distribution • Helping spread awareness through social media
