Club News
COVID-19 Update: The hysteria is settling now. The County is in
the Green Phase. With that, our Calendar is slowing down with
revisions and we are starting to ramp up with our summer
events. Please continue to review the Calendar for now to
ensure the event you want to attend is still being held.
Feeling Under the Weather: The Club would like you to evaluate
yourself if you are going to be visiting the range. We are not
your mother, so please effectively gauge how you are feeling
and then decide on whether you are healthy enough to come to
the range.
July Meeting: WE ARE HOLDING OUR JULY MEETING inside the
Membership Hall on July 23rd
. All CDC precautions will be in
effect. Mask ARE REQUIRED and we will stage the chairs in
accordance to the SOCIAL DISTANCING guidelines.
RSO's and ACT 33 CERTIFICATION: Just a reminder to keep your
status up to date. Your RSO certification is due every 2 years and
your ACT 33 certification is due every 60 months. Check yours
now so you can keep them up to date.
Inaugural Scholarship Awarded: Rachel Midea was approved as
the recipient of the 2020 Mt Lebanon Rifle Team Student Grant.
She and her family will be invited to the July membership
meeting for presentation of that grant.
DMSC 2020 New Members: To expand on what was written
above, there are talks about moving/rescheduling the Range
Orientation Meetings to help accommodate everything related
to COVID-19. If you are a perspective applicant, please keep
visiting the website for more information.
July Work Party: As the Calendar indicates, this work party Will
be held on July 18th. If you have the time and want to get
outside, please come and help! We are going to abide by CDC
regulations and make sure the work party groups will have no
more than 25 people. All participants MUST have a face covering
and supply their own food/water. Please contact Bill Fertall for
more information.
Steel Challenge Range: The Board has agreed to replace the
existing plate rack. The company they’ve decided to go through
is going to give us some AR500 plates to try and review. The
Board expects to install this rack very soon!
LOST & FOUND: If you believe you’ve lost an item of yours in or
around the Range property, please email
[email protected] to inquire about it.

Inaugural Scholarship Awarded
Inaugural Scholarship Awarded
The Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen recognize that Juniors are the future of our shooting sports and second amendment rights. Over the years, our club has sponsored a fantastic rifle training program, hosted the Mt. Lebanon Rifle Team, served as the host range for the WPIAL Rifle Championships, and provided financial assistance for Juniors to attend the NRA Whittington Center’s Adventure Camp and CMP training events. Beginning this year, we have increased our financial commitment by providing a $2,000 educational assistance grant to a graduating senior of the Mt. Lebanon Rifle Team. The grant will be divided into four annual disbursements of $500, for each year the student maintains a “C” average. Our 2020 offering received four excellent applications, which consisted of a biography of the student and two brief essays: one regarding their future goals and how they will use the scholarship, and the other detailing their participation on the rifle team and the lessons they learned. The inaugural recipient of the scholarship is Ms. Rachel Midea. A four-year member of the rifle team, Rachel was considered the team “Mom.” She supported her teammates, keeping their spirits up through their difficulties, and advising JV members on ways to improve. While helping others, she herself continued to strive toward perfection. Shooting in sixteen events this past season, she achieved her first 10X score on her final match. Rachel will be attending Penn State this fall, where she will be majoring in Nuclear Engineering. Please plan on joining us in congratulating Rachel on all she has accomplished at the July Membership Meeting where we will be presenting her with the scholarship.

After setbacks due to the Coronavirus, ARC 2020 finally kicked off the season. Fifteen participants joined in this outstanding match. With temps increasing and humidity decreasing, the challenge and fun was only superseded by the camaraderie. Allan Jaworski was "top pistoleer" with a great score of 134.32 - nice shooting Al. Also noteworthy was the blazing fast speed and accuracy of Chris Bielinski on both the horizontal and vertical steel plates - under 3 seconds for each stage. Wow! - Make that Double Wow! The action shooting bug continues to infect members here at DMSC. You are invited to come out and watch or participate and you will see why. Another Pistoleer Match will be held in September.

With overcast skies and cool temps in the mix, the 17 participants only endured a brief 10-minute rain delay - then it was all clear sailing. Good spirits were abound as all shooters moved through the array of fun and challenging stages. Al Jaworski, Jr. took top honors with a 169.28. Finn Sanders had the most top scores for 4 of 9 stages along with second place and RSO Chris Wheat a very close third. Raw scores are the time to complete the stage and then is adjusted for hits and misses - a blend of speed coupled with accuracy are the ingredients for this action rifle match. Another Advanced ARC match is scheduled for August - come out to see why this competition is a rising star.
ARC Combined AR Rifle Clinic & Basic Match
NOTE: With recent cancellation of ARC events due to the Corona Virus, the following change is being made. Participants new to action shooting benefit most with gradual acclimation of new marksmanship skills and match protocols. To maximize this learning process and allow the opportunity for Advanced Matches in 2020, DMSC will combine the structure of both Clinic and Basic Match procedures into one event. Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club is sponsoring a Combined AR Rifle Clinic & Basic Match in conjunction with the America’s Rifle Challenge (ARC) Program. This event is designed for shooters of all ages (14+) and will be geared toward those with little or no experience using the AR Rifle Platform. NRA Certified Instructors and RSO’s will provide instruction on safe gun handling, introduction to action rifle skills, dry fire practice, and several stages of live fire. This event will progress at a slow enough pace for participants to gain an introduction to action rifle match protocol and develop a comfortable level of operation with the AR Rifle. Successful completion of this event will qualify all for Advanced Matches scheduled for later in the year.
NOTE: Several changes will make this event more robust than either past Clinics or Basic Matches. The entire event will be conducted outside on the Marsico Range and will occur rain or shine!

Dealing with 2 months of cancellations due to the Covid19 virus, NRA High Power at DMSC got underway on June 7th. Seven of the regulars were more than ready to get back with competition. Weather was superb and enthusiasm was high. Tom Morley shows his high-end marksmanship with a sterling top score of 491-18x. Even more noteworthy was the clean slow fire stage with all shots maxing out at 10 points each and 13 of 20 shots in the X ring. Great shooting Tom! All scores looked very strong as well for a clean out the cobwebs first match of the year. Next match will be on Sunday, July 12th. All are Welcome!

A beautiful day to be at the range. Mr Jaworski on fire and Mr Morley smoldering with their highly tuned machines. Mr. Willard leads by a furlong among the big bores. Many moments of brilliance and clarity! A hearty welcome back to Chris Houlihan from deployments around the world. Thank you for your attention to range safety and viral hygiene. Bruce

Range Safety Officers (RSOs) will conduct random
membership checks and safety reviews. RSOs will meet with members and guests while at the firing range.
Membership ID’s will be checked and a copy of the range
rules will be made available. It’s important for all members to review safe gun handling procedures and to
focus on the safety rules for each range used. The RSOs will be a wearing a distinctive safety vest or hat and will
only ask for a few minutes of your time. Guests and
