Nominated Directors

Captain Glen Allen—Fleet Miami

As Fleet Captain for Fleet Miami, I manage nine yachts. I have been a professional

captain for 28 years, for both Sailing and Motor Yachts. It has been a very exciting,

hard, rewarding and fun experience.

Born in Biloxi, Mississippi, my first job at 12, was working for my grandfather at his

oil and ice dock in the summers selling bait and renting boats.

At age 16, I started sailing offshore races to Mexico and Florida. We moved to

Arkansas where I went to school and worked part-time, learning new sailing skills in

the fluky, inconsistent winds of the lakes that taught me how to read the wind.

I joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1978, and was assigned to search & rescue patrols

in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on an 82’ patrol boat operating between the U.S.V.I. and the

Dominican Republic.

In 1980, I was transferred to Houston, Texas, as a vessel traffic operator for the Houston and Galveston ship channels, a

challenging and educational position. After an honorable discharge, I remained in Houston selling folding trimarans and

teaching sailing until I moved back to Mississippi where I obtained an advanced captain’s license. Answering a Sail magazine

advertisement for a captain’s position, I met the boss in Miami, Florida, accepted the job and took on my first command as

captain, fell in love, married my boss and entered the world of professional yachting on a 65’ motorsailer.

I have extensive experience in the charter yacht industry, first in the Florida Keys, then in the Virgin Islands. From charter

yachts to private

sailboats and on to private motor yachts, I have cruised the Caribbean, U.S. Northeast, Alaska, Mexico, Panama Canal, the

Mediterranean as well as other countries. I was build captain for a Sparkman & Stephens 96’ sailboat built in the U.S., a 220’

Lürssen yacht built in Germany and a 147’ Feadship yacht built in Holland. I have overseen numerous yacht refits and

improvement projects. And, after all of this, I find the most satisfaction in my life’s career is now being able to mentor new and

upcoming young people interested in yachting careers.

On the more personal side, I like to read, fly fish, keep current with meteorology, watch car racing, try new culinary

experiences, take adventures to new places around the world and sail on my 18’ sailboat.

Paris Baloumis—Oceanco

Fleet—liaising with the captains and crew of all the yachts Oceanco has built since its

inception— as well as being Public Relations Manager—communicating with

international press on an ongoing basis. Having been an integral part of the company’s

At the suggestion of several ISS board members—and with strong interest in

furthering my involvement in the yachting industry—I am submitting my name for

consideration as a member of the ISS Board of Directors. Here is a summary

outlining my professional yachting experience.

I worked directly with Kevin Merrigan, President and CEO of Northrop and

boat shows, including:
