the Pooch Racing story

In 2013, local Cambridge resident Carey McLaughlin, laughs out loud seeing dogs having a

good time and thought it would be fun to organise a novel local event for dogs and dog

lovers, at the same time helping people and Pooch Racing was born.

Returning for the third year “running”, we are looking forward to a spectacular event with

record entry numbers and a thoroughly rewarding and exciting family day out. Pooch

Racing is an affordable event celebrating good dog ownership, providing education and

dog related issues. Supported by businesses, big and small, Cambridge Lions, Waipa

District Council and fundraisers for big and small charities. Welcome to the Pooch Racing

Family, look out for each other and “High Four!!”

The Assistance Dogs story

Te Awamutu based charitable trust, Assistance Dogs New Zealand (ADNZ) was founded in 2008 by Rick and Julie

Hancox. Our aim is to be the leading Assistance Dog provider in New Zealand, and to breed, raise and train

exceptional Assistance Dogs.

We are specialists in training Assistance Dogs for adults and children with the following disabilities or multiple

disabilities: Autism, Down syndrome, Diabetes Alzheimer's and Brain Injury, and many other neurological and

physical disabilities.

Our mission is to enrich the lives of people living with a disability by providing purpose bred, and trained assistance

dogs, to meet the unique needs of each individual client and family.

Assistance Dogs can provide many disability support roles that can enhance mobility, and support the safety of a

child in the community. They can be trained to alert to diabetic low blood sugar levels, fetch and pick-up items for a

wheelchair bound person as well as provide companionship and emotional support for children, and adults with a

range of disabilities.





IMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION

Welcome To Pooch Racing 2015! Here is some information to help ensure you have a safe and enjoyable time at

the event. Have fun :)

Food and drinks are available for purchase in the Doggie Village, plus the “Club Bar” is open for meals.

Toilets are situated behind the club house building, also is dog watering hoses – see signs

In case of emergency, exits are situated at Taylor Street.

Basic first aid for the public is available at the Lions Caravan and at Assistance Dogs Gate.

Injuries or illness requiring treatment, call one of the following clinics:

Anglesea Clinic in Hamilton ph 07 858 0800 or

Mahoe Medical in Te Awamutu ph 07 872 0923

Call 111 for any other medical emergency. Our location is the Cambridge Raceway, Taylor Street, Cambridge.

Arrange for someone to meet them at gate and give directions to patient.

Dog First Aid is with The Pet Vets, on the hill between the stand and The Clubhouse,

Further treatment is at your weekend emergency vet at your responsibility.

Please ensure any children in your care are closely supervised at all times. Do not allow your child to

approach any dog they don’t know. If you see a child unattended or a pooch getting stressed please ask to

help. Waipa Animal Control has a crèche on the hill by the marshal area and Kim at Dogwise in the Doggie

Village has help for free chill out time. REMINDER you can and will be escorted off the premises at

organisers discretion.

Volunteers wearing I.D are happy to help with dogs. directions and children. If you would like to join in go and ask

for Mandy at Race results recorder or catch Darren site manager. Please if you see a littlie walking past with no

grown up ask them to sit and wait with you. If your pooch picnic neighbor needs a hand offer it. Thanks Pooch HQ
