call. Mobile County Training School Alumni Association is awarding achievement-based
scholarships to eligible high school seniors who are descendents of a MCTS Alumni,
Staff, or Faculty Member. Applications must be postmarked and/or submitted no later
than March 16, 2019. Applications, criteria, and additional information is located on the
table in the foyer of the church and on MCTS website at http/:www.mctswhippets.org.

For Coffee & Doughnut Fellowship
The St. James Major Parish Grief Support
Group will be meeting and every Sunday
after Mass between 11:00am - 12:00pm in
the Parish Center. This group will reach
out to many of our church members who
are going through grief for their deceased
love ones. Coordinators have been trained
are ready to take on this noble task. So
come out and join us in supporting each
other through grief. A sign up sheet is
also in the back of the Church for those
who wish to sign up and join.
Sunday, February 24th 2019, Black History Month Presentation
Fall Festival Planning Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 5th at 6:360pm in
the Parish Center, please make plans to attend.
Food bank drive is scheduled for the weekend of February 9/10 during our Masses
that weekend.
St. James Major will be hosting a sweetheart cabaret on Friday, February
8th 2019 in the parish hall. More updates coming soon. Herbert McCaskey

Gerald Lawson, an engineer and inventor, is the reason that we
have disc-based home video games.
Fredrick Jones, an inventor, is responsible for the creation of the cooling system on
refrigerated trucks.
Robert Lawrence Jr. was the first Black to be trained as astronaut in 1967. He died
while in training on an air flight.
We shall operate our Food Bank on Tuesdays and Thursdays between
10:00am until 2:00pm. Renovation of the building to be used is near
completion. A date will be set for commissioning in February. Letters
will be given to all parishioners to support our food bank. Our first food bank drive is for
February 9/10.
