y story with the Rockies started the same year as their
creation, in 1993. Being fromMaracaibo, Venezuela, it is hard to
follow some teams. It’s a tradition to always go
for Boston, the Yankees, Atlanta or the Dodgers, especially if
you are a kid (I was 8 years old).But thanks to Andrés Galarraga
“The Big Cat,” my idol, and his transfer to Colorado, I startedmy
journey in MLB looking forward to the two or three Rockies games
that our local chan-nels would broadcast each year.
However, I constantly looked up the result in the next day’s
newspaper and, with limitedresources for that decade (no Internet),
I was getting into the club information, getting in-volved with the
player cards, Coors Field and the famous Blake Street Bombers.
Galarragawas gone by 1998, but I didn’t stop caring for that team
that I learned so much about in itsshort history.
I have grown up wishing to be in Coors Field, seeing all those
players and hoping for theirfirst postseason game, and their first
World Series Game. I suffered during the World Seriesagainst
Boston, alone, as I’ve always been a Rockies fan in Venezuela. But
suddenly, I havefelt some support here in Maracaibo since 2010,
motivated by the great performance ofCarGo, native of this
land.
Finally, this year, I’ll be able to watch a Rockies game live,
but unfortunately, not at CoorsField, but in Miami against the
Marlins (in May). Coors Field and Denver are still a little farfrom
my budget, but it is one of my goals and a dream to fulfill, in
order to be a complete Rock-ies fan.
I wish that this short story will be everyone’s pleasure and
make all Rockies fans proud.You have at least one follower from
outside the U.S. since the very first start of the team.

have never been at Coors Field, but watching Rox games with the
“Blake Street Bombers”(Walker, Castilla, Galarraga, Bichette and
company) made me love this game. In Mexico,
where I live, I try to see all 162 games. I remember 2007
“Rocktober”... that was a great time!!!It’s impossible not to love
a team that enjoys the game that much.
Vinny Castilla also had a great influence on me loving this
team. In Mexico, he’s a hero!!Those 40 HR years with the Rox are
unforgettable!!
What can I say... I have promised myself that I’m gonna be at
Coors Field someday... hopeit’s soon, and specifically in
October!!!

Wn our recent trip to Gambia inwest Africa to help the people
ofthe Gambia see by providing vision careand training to local
students, Dr. KarenKuenning, Dr. Doug Keifer and I partici-pated in
PURPLE MONDAY by wearingpurple shorts and accessories with
ourclinic team T-shirts (we had to wear ourOneSight shirts).
That evening after clinic, during ourdinner with the team and
down time at thepool, our teammates from all over the USAas well as
London, France, Switzerland andCanada changed into their purple and
rep-resented the Colorado Rockies as well.
