_ “INTERNATIONAL FORUM OF EDUCATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE”: OECD participated in the “International Forum of Educational Infrastructure” co-organised by the UNESCO Office of Mexico and the National Institute for Education Infrastructure in Mexico [INIFED]. The event took place on 12-13 June 2017, in Mexico City.

INIFED and the UNESCO Office in Mexico agreed to organise the Forum in order to provide an ample discussion on the newest trends on education infrastructure and its impact on achieving Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals. INIFED aims to assess the progress and results of the programme “Escuelas al Cien”. The programme intends to reach 33,000 schools, almost 6 million students in a period of three years, with an investment of 2.6 billion dollars. An expected result of the Forum is the selection of a set of indicators to review the programme. Approximately 100 participants attended the Forum (technical personnel from national and state infrastructure agencies), as well as experts.

_THE FUNDING OF SCHOOL EDUCATION:

This report on the funding of school education

constitutes the first in a series of thematic comparative

reports bringing together findings from the OECD

School Resources Review. School systems have

limited financial resources with which to pursue their

objectives and the design of school funding policies

plays a key role.

_FINN AND FUN: LESSONS FROM FINLAND’s NEW SCHOOL

CURRICULUM: Read this article about the transformation of the classrooms

in Finland. The new curriculum framework has four broad principles:

1. TEACHING STUDENTS 'HOW TO LEARN' INSTEAD OF 'WHAT TO

LEARN‘: The reformed curriculum focuses on teaching young Finns the

skills to obtain knowledge rather than teaching them the content itself.

2. EMPHASIS ON DEVELOPING BROAD-BASED COMPETENCIES:

Schools now emphasise developing skills that traverse multiple subjects.

3. ASSESSMENT AS LEARNING: Assessments are primarily used to

pinpoint areas where students lack understanding.

4. SCHOOLS AS LEARNING ORGANISATIONS: Schools are

encouraged to develop the love for learning by prioritising student

well-being and welfare.
