Managing Director’s Corner
Believe it or not, fall has arrived at Reunion Resort & Club - it seems like just yesterday we were welcoming sunny spring! With autumn’s arrival, we are excited to host our 10th annual Reunion Club Member-Guest tournament this month. It is always a highlight for the Golf Members and this year’s event promises to be spectacular! In addition, an exciting future is in store for Reunion Resort & Club as discussed during the recent community meeting held on September 8 at the Reunion Grande. Prem Devadas, President, Salamander Hotels & Resorts, and Carlton Grant, Managing Director, Reunion Resort & Club, shared information regarding Reunion Resort & Club’s present operations, past performance, achievements, current challenges, and future vision for the property. Highlights included:
• An artist rendering of Salamander’s newest project, The Henderson Resort in Destin, Florida, to be completed in 2016.
• Nicklaus golf course redesign of holes 17 & 18 are completed and grass is now growing in on the tee boxes, fairways and greens.
• An artist rendering of the new Nicklaus Clubhouse with Mediterranean style design features to begin construction in early 2016.
• Capital improvement projects funded by Resort operations were reviewed such as fitness center expansion, water park renovations, new Eleven pool deck furniture, new golf course carts and new golf maintenance equipment.
• Reunion Resort’s brand affiliation with Wyndham Hotels was terminated in early May of this year allowing Reunion Resort to focus on the affiliation with Salamander Hotels & Resorts as a luxury level brand.
• The Preferred Partners rental management program was terminated.
• Reunion Resort’s vacation home rental program was restructured resulting in the Resort’s home inventory growing from 38 homes to currently 52 homes.
• Approximately 100 new Reunion Club Memberships joined in the last year.
• Possible development of a Reunion Resort hotel, to include approximately 200 luxury hotel rooms that would appeal to the group market, with additional meeting space, a destination spa, fitness center facility, golf member locker rooms, and a dedicated Member’s only lounge area was discussed.
• Additional Salamander and Reunion community meetings will be held in the coming months to insure Club member involvement as we plan Reunion Resort & Club’s future together. Please watch the weekly “Out and About” Club emails from the Membership Team for future meeting dates, times and details.
Sincerely,
CARLTON W. GRANT, CHA Managing Director, Reunion Resort & Club

4 Club ChallengeTraditionally, the 4 Club Challenge Event requires some careful consideration and tactic about which 4 clubs to choose for the round. The decision involves some preround practice and if you were lucky enough to have participated in the past, you would be wiser with knowing which selection to make.
Our Gross winners for this year were John Lanman with a score of 87 and Kris Lanman with a score of 97, and our Net winners for this year were Jim Shelton with a score of 79 and Suki Shelton with a score of 76.
PGA/Members ChallengeThe “PGA” Members Challenge is played in the same format as the PGA Championship and the US Open Members Challenge. The Members competing in the event pick a pro from the PGA Championship field to add to their total. This year’s winner was David Fitzgibbons, shooting a net 62, combined with the score of his chosen pro, Rory McIlroy, who shot 69, for a grand total of 131. In the ladies division, the winner was Kris Lanman with a net score of 70, who chose pro Jordan Speith with a score of 68, for a grand total of 138.

Alan Bailey, Assistant Golf Pro, was chosen as the MERP recipient for August. Alan, who has been with Reunion since February 2009, was nominated for being “awesome. He is always professional but pleasant, kind and open. He does exceptional work with the kids and is unfailingly polite and knowledgeable with adults.
Alan is a true gentleman and it is a pleasure to see him at Reunion.”
The Member Employee Recognition Program (“MERP”) gives Members the opportunity to recognize deserving Reunion employees. Every outlet has ballots available for you to nominate and describe why you think the employee should
be the next winner. Remember to take advantage of this opportunity and let them know we notice and appreciate their efforts to make us happy to be here at Reunion.
Although only one employee receives this monthly award, all of the employees nominated receive peer and management recognition at special employee breakfasts throughout the year.
You can submit a ballot for an employee who has demonstrated exceptional service at any time – not just within the month the service was performed. MERP ballots are available at all Reunion outlets, click here to access and submit a ballot online or simply email the Reunion Membership Office at [email protected]. A call for nominations will also be sent by the Membership Office via email once per month to remind you to submit your choice(s) for the monthly MERP award.

The new Golf Carts feature a larger, better insulated drink cooler, adding more cooling space. They also have a dual sand bottle holder on the driver’s side; if one bottle runs out you’ll have one for backup!
The new embroidered cloth rain hood allows players to protect their golf club heads in the
event of rain. The new hoods are color coordinated to match the color of the cart and the
Reunion logo on the front as well as in the hood’s securing flap making it visible even when
the hood is up; they no longer have a plastic window sown into them allowing them to be
lighter and more durable than the previous carts.

The inaugural tennis member guest, the Reunion Tennis Cup, was a huge success.
We had 16 ladies from all over the country come and take part in this annual event. There were teams from New York, Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky.
The weather was beautiful and lots of tennis was played over the three day event.
In the end, team Georgia barely edged out team Kentucky in the finals,
winning only by a margin of two points.
I would like to thank everyone who made this event possible and look forward to next year. I would also like to thank our wonderful members/captains for putting their teams
together - Norma Pelfrey, Denise Roby, Debbie Vazquez, and Jessica Morgenthal.
Tennis Conditioning
Being in shape for tennis is a lot different than being just in shape..Tennis is a game of sprints, not miles. In order to get into tennis shape one needs to do intervals in the gym, not just running mileage on the tread mill. Although running on the tread mill is great for endurance, it will not improve your explosiveness to get to a ball and then recover.
The three most important muscles in playing tennis are your quadriceps, which are your major
leg muscles, your triceps, and also your core. All of these muscle groups work together in making your tennis shots the best they can be.
There are many ways to strengthen the tennis muscles beside the obvious, which would be hitting more balls, but none more important than working out in the gym. Hitting the gym not only helps with preventing injuries such as tennis elbow and muscle pulls, but also increases quickness and the ability to make shots that normally you might not be able to make.
There are many classes that you can do to also help improve your conditioning such as cardio-tennis, which works on your heart rate and maintaining your intensity; yoga, which helps lengthen your muscles, making you more flexible; and also water aerobics that uses water as your resistance and also helps you to avoid the high impact of some other exercises.
