The Wise Owls

Dear Wise Owls,

Help! My friends have stopped sitting with me at lunch and I’m worried they

are forgetting about me!

Sincerely,

Fretful One

5

Dear Fretful One,

We recommend talking to them about it. Maybe they didn’t notice how

worried you are. People don’t mean to hurt you or worry you.

Sincerely, Jordan

Dear Wise Owls,

My locker is super cluttered and I want to become more organized. I have

papers shoved in my locker and I want to keep them somewhere more

convenient. What should I do?

Sincerely,

Papers everywhere!

Dear Papers Everywhere!,

To be organized, get paper folders and attach small magnets to attach to

lockers to store papers. Don’t worry, you are not alone. It is only the first

marking period of school, and soon you will get the hang of things.

Sincerely,

Elaina

Dear Wise Owls,

My brother is older than me and he doesn’t play with me anymore. I like

getting attention, and have no other siblings. I don’t have a lot of good

friends who live close. What should I do?

-Sister in distress

Dear sister in distress,

I advise you to be patient. Your brother is getting older and may be

seeking more independence. So if I were you, I would understand my

brother’s wish for independence. For now, you could set up more get

togethers with friends so you don’t feel so left out.

Sincerely,

Elaina

Dear Wise Owls,

I’m afraid my newspaper club students are addicted to Ginger Snap

sandwiches. They devour my stash in record time. Do you think it’s causing

them to moonwalk during club?

Mrs.Tsakeris

Dear Mrs.Tsakeris,

Yes, and we’re sorry.

-Jordan

7

Dear Wise Owls,

My friend and I have a best friend who just made a new best friend and

now she doesn’t talk to us anymore and ignores us. We don’t feel like we’re

friends anymore :(

Sincerely, KiwiGirl3

Dear KiwiGirl3,

First, I’m going to say that people are allowed to have multiple friends.

Second thing I’m going to say, is she intentionally ignoring you? Maybe she

doesn’t mean to. You should really just communicate with her. Tell her you

feel that she is ignoring you, and if she brushes you off, she isn’t a good fit

to be your friend.

Dear, Wise Owls

Why is Pokémon blocked?

-Pikachu

Dear Pikachu,

Because the tech department blocked it.

- Jordan

Dear Wise Owl,

My students are loud, enthusiastic, and have too much fun together. Am I

doing something wrong?

-Mrs. Ginger Snap

Dear Mrs. Ginger Snap,

8

No, you are not doing anything wrong. This just means you are being a

great teacher who grows students and their social life. Once again, you are

not doing anything wrong.

Sincerely,

Elaina

Dear Wise Owls,

Why are we a narwhal? (As a mascot.)

From Joey

Dear Joey,

The year before the sixth grade center was opened, Mr. Mulvey asked the

fifth graders what mascot they wanted. One school was studying narwhals,

and the majority of the school voted for narwhals.

Sincerely,

Elaina

Halloween!!!!!!!!!!! What are you going to be for this spooky day? Did you know that Halloween’s

origins come from a Celtic festival for the dead called “Samhain.” Some fun facts about Halloween:

1. Originally, you had to dance for your “treat.”

2. Halloween is more Irish than St. Patrick’s Day.

3. If you’d been around for the earliest Halloween celebrations, you might have worn animal skins and

heads.

4. Jack-o’-lanterns were once made out of turnips, beets and potatoes — not pumpkins.

5. Halloween used to be a great day to find your soulmate.

6. In a few American towns, Halloween was originally referred to as “Cabbage Night.”

7. Some animal shelters won’t allow the adoption of black cats around Halloween for fear they’ll be

sacrificed.

And finally, 8. Studies have shown that Halloween actually makes kids act more evil.
