Bishop’s Services Appeal Each of us is called through our common Baptism to be a light to the world and to do our share in implementing the
victory Jesus won on the Cross. While we cannot always be the one to comfort the grieving, bring hope to the socially oppressed, teach the young and reach out to those in need, we can-through our generosity-ensure that our Diocesan
Church is strong and vibrant so that it is able to meet the needs of so many in the year ahead. The Bishop’s Services Appeal provides the financial lifeblood for a broad range of ministries, apostolates and outreach programs.
Your generous gift can and will make a difference to the least among us. Your generous gifts given in His name will give praise to the Heavenly Father and make you a co-worker in his sanctifying and redemptive works.
Please respond to Bishop Jarrell’s letter, by using a pledge envelope found here in church, by giving online at www.diolaf.org (click online giving) or call 261-5641. Thank you.

ELECTION YEAR PRAYER
Lord, Jesus Christ, You told us to give to Caesar
what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to
God. Enlighten the minds
of our people during this election year.
May we choose a President of the United States, and
other government officials, according to Your Divine Will.
Give our citizens the courage to choose leaders of our nation
who respect the sanctity of life, the sanctity of marriage, the sanctity of the family,
and the sanctity of the aging. Grant us the wisdom to give You what belongs to You, Our God.
If we do this, as a nation, we are confident You will give us an abundance of Your Blessings

ANNA’S JOURNAL
Anna called me today. She told me she went to the supermarket this morning and on her way to the check-out she had to pass by the flower case. The roses on display were simply gorgeous, so she decided to pick out a bouquet to take home. Out of the corner of her eye,
she saw an older woman watching as Anna chose her flowers. “So cheap!” Anna was think-ing to herself as she looked at her bouquet. The other woman was still standing there.
“Hard to pick, isn’t it?” Anna said. “Oh, I cannot buy any,” said the woman. “Too expen-sive. I just come to look . . . so beautiful.” This woman was grateful just to look at flowers she could not buy! So I said to Anna, “Well, what did you do?” Anna said, “I divided my bouquet in half and said, ‘Please share these with me.’ ” I know I am grateful right this
minute for everything God has blessed me with. Yet it seems to me that as long as others do not have what I have, my gratitude alone is not enough. If others don’t have good, whole-some food to eat, a home or even a roof over their heads, love and friendship, work that
rewards them, health and the care to maintain it, then my gratitude is just the beginning. It’s a door that opens to the next step. I can walk through the door, which means sharing what I have with those who have not, or I can close the door. Then my gratitude becomes a dead end and I’m trapped in my own complacency. I called Jim and we’re going to sit
down after dinner tonight when the kids are in bed. It’s time to review our giving again. Copyright © 2011, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

Liturgical Ministers serving at the Lord’s table
A great gnashing of teeth A preacher of the old school was describing the events of Judgment Day and,
of course, he used Biblical phrases whenever he could. "Oh, my friends," he shouted, "imagine the suffering of the sinners as they find themselves cast into the outer darkness, removed from the presence of the Lord
and given to eternal flames. My friends, at such a time there will be weeping, wailing and
a great gnashing of teeth!" At this point, one of the elders of the congregation interrupted.
"But Reverend," he said, "what if one of those hopeless sinners has no teeth?" The preacher crashed his fist on the pulpit,
"My friends, the Lord is not put out by details. Rest assured ... teeth will be provided!"
