Welcome to the HeartSmart Walks programme for

October 2016 – January 2017

February 2016 to May 2016

These walks are led by volunteer Walk Leaders and are designed to cater for all

ages and abilities. The walks offer opportunities to exercise and meet new people

in a safe and friendly environment. Below is some information to help you get the

most out of them:

All walks finish at their starting point unless otherwise stated.

No booking is required but please arrive 10 minutes before the walk is due

to start.

Please inform the Walk Leader if you will be leaving the walk early and sign

yourself out.

Please wear suitable footwear and you may like to bring a drink of water.

Please note that the walks are smoke free.

Dogs are welcome unless otherwise stated but must be kept on the lead.

Timings stated on the programme are approximate

If the weather is poor the walk may be cancelled. Please check with the

office or website if unsure (office hours Mon-Fri 8.45am-5pm).

Please read the walk description before joining the walk

and ensure you are walking at the right level for you.

L: Gerald Time : 1hr 30mins Distance : 3 miles. A lovely & interesting walk in and around Tillington, via vineyards & then to Pitshill, Tillington's mansion. Meet: The Horse Guards Inn, Upperton Road, Tillington, GU28 9AF. SU963 220. By Car: 1 mile west from Petworth on A272 then in the middle of Tillington, turn north following brown tourist sign to The Horse Guards. Parking in road. L: Simon M: David Q Time : 1hr 30mins Distance : 3.5 miles around Bignor starting from Bignor Roman Villa. Some stiles but apart from one short climb the walk is mainly on the flat. Meet: Bignor Roman Villa (parking by kind permission of Bignor Roman Villa) By car: Take the A29 to Bury. At the bottom of Bury Hill take the turning (westwards) signposted for West Burton and Bignor. Bignor Roman Villa is also signposted with brown tourism signage (2 miles). Follow the lane and signs through West Burton. Bignor Roman Villa is on the right before reaching Bignor village

WEST WITTERING

L: Judy M: John Time: 1 hour Distance: Approx 2 miles. The walk along Ellanore Lane then along the edge of Chichester Harbour and returning via Snow Hill, will be at a gentle pace and should be suitable for beginners. Meet: On green opposite “The Old House at Home” pub at West Wittering By car: From Chichester take A286 to Birdham roundabout then right onto B2179 for about 3 miles to small green at entrance to Pound Road on right. Parking may be possible on the main road or in side streets. By Bus: Nos 52 or 53 stop at “Old House at Home” pub opposite Pound Road.

PULBOROUGH BROOKS

L: Jane M: Peter D Time: 1 hr 30 minutes Distance: 3.5 miles This is a flat walk with stiles, which can be wet and muddy if there has been bad weather. Please note that in one place there is a very narrow field entrance. Meet: RSPB Reserve car park Wigginholt Pulborough RH20 2EL. Meet at entrance to the reserve. By car: A29 to Pulborough. Turn right on to A283 and approximately 1.5 miles, turn right into the reserve car park.

LAVINGTON COMMON

L: Fiona Time: 2 hours Distance: 3.5 miles Starting at this lovely heathland enjoy a wander through this old wooded and heathy landscape. Footpaths can be muddy. Meet at Lavington Common National Trust car park near Graffham. Take the Graffham turning between Petworth and Duncton off the A285 and continue along the road until you see the car park amongst pine trees on your right. If you get to the crossroads at Cathanger Lane you have just gone past it. Any problems phone Fiona 07767400039.

SLINDON PARK LANE

L: Janet H M: Ann F Time: 1 hr 30 minutes Distance: 3.5 miles. A walk through the woods and up onto the Downs. Walking back through Slindon Village to see the Pumpkin display. Meet: National Trust Car Park, Park Lane, Slindon, BN18. By Car: Take A27 eastward from Chichester. At Fontwell roundabout continue on A27 until you reach the next roundabout (¼ mile approx). At this roundabout take first left (A29 Pulborough/Amberley) and immediately turn left into Park Lane. Car park is ¾ mile on the left.

NOT SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS Meet: Outside the Hamilton Arms Stedham. GU29 0NZ. By car: A286 to Midhurst, at mini roundabout turn left on A272 to Petersfield. After 2 miles turn right into Stedham (this is the second turning to Stedham) and park outside the Hamilton Arms on the verge.

Refreshments are available at the Yacht Club on the return. Meet: 10.45am (to allow for train) at Arun Yacht Club Car Park, Rope Walk, Littlehampton, West Sussex, BN17 5DL. Your support to the club in buying refreshments is appreciated in return for free parking. By Car: Take the A259, Bognor Littlehampton Road. About ¼ mile east of Ford Road roundabout turn south into Ferry Road. Follow signs for beach and Golf Course onto Rope Walk. The Yacht Club is on west bank of the river opposite the Golf Club at the top of the slope. By Bus/Train: Across the footbridge opposite Littlehampton station. Turn left, the Yacht Club is about 1/3 of a mile ahead.

L: Jane Time: 2 hours Distance: 4 miles through woods and fields with two steep climbs and some stiles. Not suitable for beginners. Meet: At the junction of the B2146 and the Walderton Stoughton Road, where parking is available on the grass verge by the River Ems. By Car: Take the B2178 from Chichester, turning right at Funtington into Hares Lane and right again on to the B2146.

Continue over one roundabout, pass the Bosham Inn on the right and Cot Lane is a turning on the left. By Bus: The 700 bus stops at the top of Cot Lane so this is a good walk to access by bus.
