2016-2017 Academic Calendar• NISD District Education Improvement

Council – Calendar Development and Recommendation

• In compliance with HB 2610 – amends TEC §25.081– Effective 2015-2016 school year– Removes the 180 day, seven hour requirement of instruction– Requires 75,600 minutes of instruction– Allows a district to add minutes as necessary to compensate

for minutes of instruction lost due to school closures caused by disaster, flood, extreme weather conditions, fuel curtailment, or another calamity

– Public Schools cannot begin instruction prior to the fourth Monday in August or end the school year prior to May 15
