Recently, there has been some feedback that some homeowners/residents are unaware of certain things that have been communicated through the monthly newsletters, weekly landscaping emails and Community Awareness Bulletins that have been sent out throughout the years. It has been expressed that people want to know this information. I am sending this update so that people can easily glance through and read the sections they are interested in. I know you're busy and it's easy to get tunnel vision with all the different communication going out. Trust me, I'm a keep it simple, keep me updated with the big picture type of person. We want to keep you in the know in regards to your community. I also welcome you to submit your feedback for

future topics and issues you would like to be updated on through the virtual suggestion box. Click here to access the suggestion box. We greatly value and appreciate your participation!

Please know, that we are called "Access" because of our dedication to being "Accessible". If you have concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me and I would be more than happy to schedule some dedicated time to sit and work on these things with you. We recognize there is ALWAYS room for improvement. With many years of property management experience and daily interactions with our currently 1000+ homes, together we can sit down and objectively look at our challenges and things we would like accomplish in the

community as a community. The management function of our association is administrative in nature. The board is the principle policy-making body which sets policies, standards, procedures, programs and budgets. Management's function is to carry out these board decisions and act a liaison between the Community and the Board. Please take the time to reach out to me to discuss any concerns. I sincerely enjoy the positive and effective interactions and suggestions that I experience with the members of the community. We can go great lengths working together and I always invite your involvement as it is key to the success of the community.

Landscaping Update

You may have seen me in your yard or on your street a few times or maybe you've noticed strange tiny holes in your yard from my high heels. We have definitely been challenged with implementing this transition in the busiest season for the Landscaping Business. I mentioned in my article for September's newsletter that we have done a lot of irrigation work during the past month and implemented a Preventative Maintenance Agreement for our pumping stations, as well as a software that will alert us of complications with the pumps and other valuable information to stay proactive with the system. We are looking to improve as much as possible and to stay ahead on it. I have been on-site daily with the DTE team working with JC, the on-site supervisor, to train our crew leaders on quality assurance. I have also been working with him to catch up on addressing customer service requests and making changes as we receive feedback on the customer service / work order program (IssueTrak). We will continue to do this and improve wherever we can. Please find a couple important bullet points below:

• Annual Mulch Refreshment will begin Monday, September 29th. Please click on link below to view the map showing the order that we will be laying down the mulch. The refreshment will consist of a fresh top coat of mulch to each bed. Please remember, to alter or install any landscaping or items in the yard such as decorations or lighting, we must go through the VillageWalk Architectural Approval Process. The Maintenance of any additional landscaping installed is the sole responsibility of the homeowner. The VW scope of work does not include specialty gardening such as the balling of schillings or boxing shrubs.

• If you have any customer service requests regarding landscaping, please contact Down To Earth directly.

***If you have requested service from Down To Earth and they have not responded to your request within 72 business hours or it was not completed to your satisfaction, please contact

the Town Center for further assistance.

Member Tom Rose.Early this year, VillageWalk added its first Homeowner Board Member, Tom Rose. Tom has had prior experience being on Homeowner Boards. He has dedicated a lot of his time attending workshops, Board Member Certifications, Legal Updates and networking with other Board Members from other communities. He is very actively involved and has been an integral part of helping us structure and form our committees. We are very close to getting the Compliance Committee all set up. Landscaping, Security and Pool Committees may be next in line. If you are interested in joining a committee, please reach out to me to discuss!

Concrete Street Repairs: North Townhomes

Now that we've completed the 2014 townhome and villa painting project we will move on to our next reserve project of completing the repairs to the alleyways behind the North Townhomes. The contractor will be putting in more expansion joints to allow the streets to be more durable and reduce future damage.

Truncated DomesAnother 2014 reserve project that we will be completing this quarter will be going through and replacing the worst of these broken red alert tiles throughout the Center to East side of the community.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe October!

October is here! I personally love Oc tober for many reasons and one of them is the lovely cooler nights we’ll be expe riencing. It’s also Halloween time! This Halloween we’ll be hosting our Adult Halloween Spooktacular on Saturday, October 25th at 8-11p here in the ballroom. Not a fan of wearing a cos-tume? No problem! Cos tumes are optional, however there will be prizes for the best dressed. To keep costs at a minimum, we ask that ev eryone “Bring Your Own...Appetizer or Drinks or Des serts” to share. P.S. there’s a prize for that too!. For the second year in a row we’ll be hold ing our Trunk or Treat Village-Walk Halloween Party! For those of you who have never heard of Trunk or Treat or didn't get the chance to attend last year's event, it’s when a community gathers in one designated area to giveaway their spooky good ies (instead of going door-to-door) from the trunk of their awesomely decorated vehicles! This is a great way for all the kids to load up on their good ies and enjoy some fun and games at the same time, all the while keeping them safe in one central location. This event will take place on Halloween Night, October 31st 6:30-8:30pm. If you would like to participate with your decorated trunk, please email me at [email protected] to get on the list. We would like to know ahead of time how many vehicles to plan for. If you would rather just hand out candy or come and enjoy the time you may do so as well. Prizes for best costumes, best trunk, and more will be given out! If you would like to donate a Halloween themed snack or candies, please contact me, we welcome all donations!

I hope everyone has a spooktacular October. :)

Maintenance Report with Joe As part of our preventative maintenance program, we just finished our

scheduled quarterly power washing of all the Town Center and amenity areas.

With the cooler weather coming our way it's almost time to start heating

our pools. Starting in late October both the lap pool and resort pool will be

heated through the winter months for your enjoyment.

As a reminder, when finished playing tennis, please use the supplied

walk-behind brooms and sweep the court(s) you were using so that it is ready

for the next resident's recreation. It is everyone's responsibility to clean up

after themselves when finished using any of the amenities, this includes use

of any Town Center rooms and areas.

Lastly, please note that the dumpsters located by the Town Center

are for official use only. Lately, we have noticed residents dropping off old

furniture, moving boxes and bulky items, this is not permitted. If you need to

dispose of large items please contact City of Orlando Solid Waste Authority

at 407.246.2314. Large item pick-up days are on Tuesdays, but must be

called in ahead of time to ensure that the items are picked up.

during a dark, lonely night would be a very scary thing for them, and super dangerous with cars, all our waterways and wildlife who would love to have their own little holiday snack. Costume contests are so much fun! But remember, this is Florida and it still can be quite warm around Halloween. So it can be very hot for your pups to be in a costume, especially if outside, as they are already wearing a ‘fur’ coat. Keep an eye on them. Make sure they do not seem too over heated. Some signs, panting, lethargic, disoriented. And keep them in the shade as much as possible when strutting around, offering

them plenty of cool water. Still looking for a costume for your dog? Dog & Friends has a few left that we are offering at 50% to 75% off. Feel free to email me for details.Halloween is all about fun at any age! There is nothing better than being able to participate with your best-friends, both human and 4-legged. Have fun! But be careful with your furry friends. Have a spook-tacular time and

enjoy the fun!

Be extra cautious about keeping the human treats, especially chocolate & candy, far out of the reach from your pets. Do you know one little piece of chocolate can kill your dog! This is the time of year with all the candy kids collect that many of our furry friends get very, very sick. And exercise a lot of caution keeping the family pets (especially cats) in secure areas in the house on Halloween eve so they don’t sneak out while their humans & excited young children are busy opening doors and distributing candy. Think of their safety before your fun! Running around Villagewalk

So many fun things to do around Halloween!

But be careful! There are many dangers for your pets this time of year.

Lake Nona Run Club invites you, your familyand your neighbors to support the first ever

community Half Marathon.

Our event has been created to financially assist chronically sick children in the Lake Nona neighborhood. 1,000 runners will be taking to the streets of Lake Nona on Sunday, October 26, 2014! They would truly welcome your encouragement as they run 13.1 miles to raise funds to benefit the Scheerer family of Northlake Park. Trevor, 7, battles stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma, a very rare soft tissue cancer. For the safety of these amazing runners, Tavistock Lakes Blvd will be closed at 5:45am on the morning of October 26, 2014. Tavistock Lakes Blvd will re-open to traffic at around 7:30am. Participants will be running only on the inside lanes of Lake Nona Blvd. Therefore, traffic will be open on Lake Nona Blvd throughout the race. Our aim is to avoid any inconvenience to residents in these areas during the race. If you need to travel on the morning of October 26, 2014, please be aware of the runners and spectators and be considerate with your speed. We want everyone to be safe and have a wonderful morning! We hope to see our Lake Nona neighbors out on race morning cheering the runners along the way! If you have any questions, please email us at: [email protected].

We have now depleted most of our fabric inventory, graciously donated by people such as you. Please help if you or anyone you know has remnants of fabric that can be donated to our cause. We can use remnants as small as 1 yard for small-sized dresses although large dresses require 1 1/2 yards. We do ask though, that the fabric be of dress weight—not see-through nor too heavy such as upholstery fabric that wouldn’t be suitable for warm-climate clothing. Notions, such as double-fold bias tape, elastic, and black yarn, are always appreciated. You may drop donations off at the Town Center office with a note that it's for DIH. If you’re not familiar with our group, Dressed in Hope, we are an organization that meets every Thursday from 10am to 12pm in the Town Center. We construct dresses and matching dolls to be delivered to countries around the world when or where they are most needed. However, our volunteers are never required to meet that often. Shirley Hobbs, pictured above, is one of our dedicated members who sometimes prefers to sew at home. Thank you, Shirley!

Landscaping Update

Down To Earth we will be working on specific tasks for October. The fertilizer and

pest control team will be fertilizing the trees and shrubs throughout the community. This

application will help add new growth, color, and density to weak plants such as yellow or

yellowing Queen Palms and thin Magnolia trees. We also have identified and treated a large

amount of Oleander Caterpillars property wide.

The irrigation team will continue irrigation maintenance inspections along with

supplemental watering for our drought stressed turf and shrub areas we have recently identified.

We have encountered several controller and valve wire issues onsite which are being repaired.

The maintenance team will continue to improve on the 3-week detail rotation and

weekly mowing rotation. Mulch installation will begin at the start of the month with a goal

to be completed by Thanksgiving. We also will continue to trim all Queen and Sabal Palms

as we move throughout the community. If you have any questions about these or any other

applications, please feel free to contact us.

Health TipsSocial Support Critical for People with Diabetes:

New 6-Week Support Group Beginning at UCF Pegasus Health

Living with any chronic medical condition is challenging. But an international study by Penn State College of Medicine concluded that social support can help people with diabetes better cope with the psychosocial challenges of the disease and improve their overall health. Researchers interviewed more than 8,500 people with diabetes living in 17 countries, including the United States and Canada, and discovered that almost half of them had feelings of anxiety, fear, worry, depression and hopelessness. And a large number had experienced discrimination at work and felt like the public misunderstood their condition. However, those who reported success in managing their disease attributed it to their positive outlook and the support from those around them—from family and friends to coworkers and healthcare providers. If you have diabetes and feel like a support group would benefit you, consider the new 6-week Diabetes Connect series now offered at UCF Pegasus Health. Meetings will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. beginning September 30. Topics like diet, exercise, motivation, stress management and relapse prevention will be covered. Sessions will be held at the clinic, located at 3400 Quadrangle Blvd., Orlando, FL 32817—on the corner of University Blvd. just blocks from the main UCF campus.

For more information and to register for Diabetes Connect, visithttp://ucfpegasushealth.org/?p=946. There is no cost to attend.

ADDITIONAL HEALTH TIPS CAN BE FOUND AT http://med.ucf.edu/health-tips/ Weekly Health Tips are brought to you by UCF Pegasus Health, the College of Medicine's physician practice. UCF Pegasus Health includes primary care doctors and specialists who treat patients age 16 and up from across the community and accept most major insurance plans. If you or someone you know needs medical care, call (407) 266-DOCS or visit UCFPegasusHealth.org for more information. Coming in 2015 - UCF Pegasus Health will open a second location in Lake Nona's Medical City. Stay tuned for more details.

The bathroom is one of the rooms that you will spend time in everyday. So waking up to a beautiful space will help put you in a happy frame of mind to start your day right. Bathrooms are small, so they are easy to create a dramatic difference with little effort and cost. So, where do you start? Here are 7 easy ideas to help you make a positive impact:

...A new coat of paint on the walls will create a big change. If you have white fixtures and a white cabinet or pedestal sink, consider painting a bold dark rich color…instant drama and elegance! If you have dark cabinets, consider a soothing spa like color like Sherwin Williams comforted.

...Next add a new shower curtain; the pattern will dictate the look and mood you want to evoke.

...Dress the Window with something pretty, like a curtain, cornice or an organic shade.

...Next select artwork that works with the colors and feel you want to create

...Consider replacing the mirror. If you have a plain mirror glued to the wall by the builder, either take it down, repair the wall and hang a new framed mirror; or consider adding framing to the plain mirror to make it appear like its custom.

...Change Light fixtures, especially if they are the builders Hollywood bare bulb strips. New fixtures will make the new framed mirror have a custom finished look.

...Last, accessorize, with pretty jars holding colorful soaps etc., flowers, (add a shelf if you are lacking counter space), colorful towels and rugs.

MedicareSupplements Last month we discussed the difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage Programs. With Original Medicare you can go to any doctor (in the US) that accepts Medicare. You’ll need to purchase Parts A, B, and D. With the Medicare Advantage Program you are limited to a physician network in your service area (which is county or statewide). This month’s article focuses on Medicare Supplements that are available to those on Original Medicare. It is NOT available to those people that are on Medicare Advantage (remember, you can change your options each year during the annual enrollment period: October 15-December 7 for a January effective date).

What are Medicare Supplements? Though Original Medicare covers most of your medical expenses, you are still responsible for deductibles, copays, and co-insurance. Medicare Supplements (also called Medigap policies) are designed to cover either (partially or fully) your out-of-pocket expenses. In order to purchase a Supplement policy you need to have both Parts A & B of Medicare.

Do I Need a Supplement? No, it’s not required. But then you’ll need to pay all those out-of-pocket expenses. When Should I Sign Up? There is only two situations in which you can sign up for a Medicare Supplement regardless of your health condition:

1. During your initial open enrollment period when you turn 652. If you’re still working beyond age 65 and are covered under a group health plan. When you retire and no longer

have group coverage, you will be given a short period of time to sign up for a Medicare Supplement without answering any health questions. If you fall into this category, please read carefully the next section.

If you sign up for a Medicare Supplement at any other time, you will need to answer health questions and you could be turned down.

Do I need a Medicare Supplement if I’m Still Working and have Health Coverage? If you are still working and covered under a group health plan you will get Part A automatically when you turn 65. You do not need to sign up for Part B until you retire and no longer have group coverage. This is important because if you’re still working and covered under a group health plan and elect Part B, this will start your eligibility period countdown for a Medicare Supplement policy. In other words, this may disqualify you from getting a guaranteed issue Supplement policy down the road when you do retire.

How Many Supplement Plans Are There? Medicare Supplement Plans have alphabetic names: A, B, C, D, F*, G, K, L, M, N. Each differs in what they pay. Some plans pay the deductible, and some don’t. Some plans pay a higher co-insurance cost, and some pay less. While the plans vary in price (and from company to company), each lettered plan has standard coverages. In other words, Plan F from Company X offers the same coverages as Plan F from Company Z.

What’s the Cost? The cost for a Medicare Supplement depends on what plan you choose and on your age, possibly other factors such as smoker or non smoker.

For More InformationMedicare offers a booklet entitled “Choosing a Medigap Policy” and www.Medicare.gov is an excellent resource.

A fascinating rummy-like game played with tiles rather than cards. The game originated in China, dating back to the time of Confucius.
