Field News from Lima, PeruWhile I was on my way to the airport yesterday I got a call from my brother with the exciting news that he was accepted
as a Bible college student at MBC&S. Zechariah 4:10 came to my mind, “For who hath despised the day of small things?” In the eyes of any natural minded man, yesterday was just another day but I was so refreshed in my soul to consider all that had taken place. While Tony was accepted into the Bible college I was flying out for Peru.
I made it safe to Lima late last night and had a good time with the team this morning. I’ll be staying with Pastor Stan Collins this first week then moving in with some of the Bible college students in the dorms above the church. It’s going to be a great semester here and I hope to keep you all filled in with the testimonies and funny stories of our adventure (andyrcastro.org/blog). Pastor Julian Timofte is going to be a great blessing for me as he’s taking the time to show me the ropes.
Over the last 6 months, I developed plans to move to Peru for this school year. The idea to move here actually started 5 years ago with a short term missions trip to Peru with our church youth ministry. I definitely said in my heart, “I could come back here” and so as of yesterday I have!
You might also be wondering, “What is he doing down there?” I’m glad to say that I will be doing in Lima exactly what I was doing in Baltimore and that can be summed up in three words: Message, Ministry, Mission. That involves teaching people the message of God’s love, leading people in a ministry of the Holy Spirit, and winning people to the Person of Jesus Christ. If that’s not a good enough reason to be a missionary, I don’t know what is!
