Field News from Mumbai, IndiaI’m thankful for the time sharing missions with many churches in America, but it sure feels good to be back in the slums

of Mumbai! Bethany and I were honored to speak to churches in Texas, Maine, Kansas City, Philadelphia, New York and Baltimore. I flew back to India and on the first Sunday preached to all our precious believers in Nallasopara near their slum homes alongside Ganesh and family. That is home to me.

One amazing soul as fruit from 40,000 tracts? Yes, God’s ways are not our ways. Back on Good Friday over 100 of our Greater Grace believers in Nallasopara, and our live praise band, told everyone why Jesus died on the Cross and rose on Easter. We passed out 40,000 Gospel tracts in 3 hours – that is how many people there are on the streets here. Akbar, a 22 year old Muslim took one of the tracts that day and loved the message of Jesus. He would call Ganesh every day. Ganesh took one of his disciples and they met Akbar. They led him to salvation in Christ and he truly got born again. He has been faithful and hungry to know God’s Word at 3 discipleship times a week, as Ganesh mentors this miracle, a Muslim convert to Christ. This rarely happens. So let’s rejoice.

Akbar wants to give up everything and go to Bible college full time. He worked for his father’s chicken farm in a village in north India. He was only in Mumbai for a few days visiting his brother when he received our Gospel tract. After he got saved, he did not want to go back to his village. He stayed with his brother and has worked in his paper recycling business. Akbar travels 45 minutes every Tuesday to Ganesh’s home an hour early before Discipleship Bible study, hungry for one on one investment. He learns and remembers much of the Bible. He goes with Ganesh every Friday to learn how he is pastoring the church in the Garai Pada slum. Akbar comes every Sunday night to Nallasopara church. He comes early and stays late. Praise God, this is a miracle!

We also have the miracle of many new Bible college students from Bhutan and Sikkim, Orissa and Gujarat. I have the honor of teaching the Old Testament Prophets each week and then going up to the dorms and having a Friday morning “rap session” with the students. It is a time to pour out more of a personal love from Christ as a big brother to the 30 Bible college men. We rehearse what they are learning in classes; the Holy Spirit makes it more practical and powerful in their lives.
