A MESSAGE FROM LISA
Dear Friends, Welcome to the 3rd Annual Alaska Women’s Summit. I’m proud to once again co-chair this incredible event, and look forward to great dialogue with you over the next two days. The theme of this year’s summit - We’re Better Together - is an important one. I have long believed in the value of personal friendships and professional relationships among women, to share experiences, lend a helping hand, learn from each other, and open new doors. It is our responsibility to one another, to provide support, and through this, opportunities for growth. This summit is an opportunity to create connections with women of all ages and backgrounds to generate positive change within our community and ourselves. The discussions we have here should not end with the close of the summit, but should carry on throughout the year, and be shared with others beyond the event. I hope you have a wonderful time, and please introduce yourself to someone you have not met before. You never know where a simple introduction may lead.
Sincerely,
US Senator Lisa MurkowskiUnited States Senator, Alaska
A MESSAGE FROM LESIL
Dear Alaskans,
I am so honored to have you at the 2015 Annual Alaska Women’s Summit. This annual summit has been one of my greatest accomplishments throughout my 15 years of service to Alaska.
When I commissioned the 2013 report on the status of women it revealed to me that Alaska may be one of the most challenging places in the United States for women. This has been a relatively untold story for far too long. How can we have such a dichotomy in our state: huge social and economic challenges and top ranking female leaders? Much of the work I have done over the last two Women’s Summits was aimed at hearing that untold story, and listening to our leaders. I continue to hear the stories and inspiring words from those previous years told and retold by friends and family. This lasting impact is our collective success. I am thrilled to share another year with each of you as we continue to build a stronger and safer Alaska for women and those we love.
This year we are going to take our knowledge and inspiration to forge ahead to begin generating positive changes. Working together I believe we can achieve anything. Alaskan women are strong, resilient, hardworking and above all, innovative. I challenge each and every one of you to reach out to those around you, make new connections, share ideas, and continue the dialogue. It is within ourselves, our homes, and our communities that these changes need to happen, and it all starts right here, right now. Let us begin. We’re better together!
Warmly,
Senator Lesil McGuireAlaska State Senator, District L
