SACRED HEART Walker, IA & Vinton, IA Jesus offers a hard lesson regarding wealth and possessions in today’s Gospel. The rich man whom he encountered could not part with his pos- sessions as a condition to becoming a disciple of Jesus. Would our re- sponse be the same as the rich man? Do we place our trust in our money and possessions instead of trusting in God’s generosity? Do we seek secu- rity in our possessions? Good stewards realize that their possessions must not possess them, lest those possessions block their relationship with the Lord.

Financial Update as of September 30 2021 Itrsquos hard to believe that the first quarter of our fiscal year has come to a close already I wanted to give you an update on where we stand financially As you may recall last year we held our budget steady and for some line items we were even able to lower our budget We were able to do this in part because of the funds we received from the Paycheck Protection Program Also because we were limited in what we could offer in-person some of our expenses were lower This fiscal year as we gradually return to normal so must our budget The following chart summarizes where each parish stands in terms of what we had budgeted to receive from our weekly collection relative to what we actual-ly received in the first quarter

Itrsquos also helpful to look at what we had received during first quarter last fiscal year compared to first quarter this year Here are those numbers

Thanks to all who continue to generously support our parishes
