THURSDAY 20th OCTOBER 2016
Dear Families,
What a wonderful week at SJV! FestiVal Seni was held last night and the community came together to celebrate our cultural diversities across the world in dance, music and art. We had a marvellous attendance of families and it was wonderful to watch students sharing their learning with others. Both the Barong Hunt and the photo booth were well received and families are welcome to ask for copies of photos if they wish from the office. Winners of the Barong Hunt will be announced next week. Obviously for a night of this calibre to take place there are many people deserving of our thanks: to the students for their wonderful art creations, songs and dances and their enthusiasm to learn about the world, to the Balinese dancers, Sasha, Sadie, Evie and Victoria who eagerly rehearsed over the last couple of months and put a lot of time and energy in to create such a respectful traditional dance. I also thank the visual arts and cultural team for the plethora of teaching and learning experiences they have provided over the year to make such a successful exhibition and celebration last night. Gabbi Davoren: Art Director and Festival Coordinator, sculpture, painting, collages Heather Hainstein: Cultural Director: Indonesian cultural experiences, dance, puppetry, story Ann Earle: Music Director: choir, musical harmony, percussion, angklung instrumental piece. Jessica Earle: Pianist for Choir I would also like to thank Nicole and Megan and all the staff for all the extra tasks they undertook to support, advertise and create the festival. The class items were a hit at Auction and I would like to thank Mark Lynch and his assistants, Kevin Pleysier, Peter Jencik for making the auction of the items so much fun. It is lovely knowing that the art pieces will stand proudly in family homes. We had many mums and dads coming to school over the last weeks to complete the masterpieces and to set up for the art show. We are truly appreciative of the time and effort you always give to the school. As you know the fete is on the 18th of November and preparations are now in full swing. Pinatas , craft shop, trash and treasure is well under way so please don’t forget to read the fete notices each week in the newsletter. We all look forward to Shane Regan returning on Monday and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the staff for stepping up in various ways throughout the last three weeks and working together as a team to achieve so many valuable learning experiences for all.

School Closure Days- Friday 28th & Monday 31st October
In previous years our school, like many others has had a School Closure Day on the Monday before the Melbourne Cup, this day has generally been focused on writing of end of year reports and collating assessments. This will be the case again this year but this year I would like to add Friday 28th October as a school closure day because we have the opportunity to obtain the services of a highly qualified speaker on the subject of Autism Perspectives and Behaviour Management Strategies.
Please make a diary note regarding our School Closure Days on Friday 28th and Monday 31st October.
School Fees All School fees were due for payment by Friday 16th September. Please finalise all outstanding accounts. I ask for your full support in this matter.
