Celebrations! Sunday, October 19, 2014 10:45 am Gathering in God’s Name As We Gather The Christian faith is more than words; it is the entirety of life. All different aspects of life work together in harmony as God gives direction. With the hymnwriter Frances Havergal, we pray, “Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee”. That consecration includes our hands, our voices, our intellects, and so much more. Even when there is suffering in our lives, the assurance of the Holy Spirit that God is at work in us carries us through the challenging times. A well-integrated faith is a gift of God that shapes and gives eternal value to all of our earthly lives. God’s Word for UsOld Testament (Please be seated) Isaiah 5:1-7

5:1 Let me sing for my beloved my love song concerning his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill. 2 He dug it and cleared it of stones, and planted it with choice vines; he built a watchtower in the midst of it, and hewed out a wine vat in it; and he looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes. 3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. 4 What more was there to do for my vineyard, that I have not done in it? When I looked for it to yield grapes, why did it yield wild grapes? 7 For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are his pleasant planting; and he looked for justice, but behold, bloodshed; for righteousness, but behold, an outcry!

L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

Epistle Ephesians 5:1-91Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. 2And walk in love, as Christ

loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. 3But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. 4Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. 5For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7Therefore do not associate with them; 8for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9(for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),

L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

Holy Gospel (Please stand) Matthew 21:33–46

Pastor: “Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and leased it to tenants, and went into another country. When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to get his fruit. And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’ And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” They said to Him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.” Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:

People: “‘The stone that the builders rejectedhas become the cornerstone;this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

Pastor: “Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.” When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they perceived that He was speaking about them. And although they were seeking to arrest Him, they feared the crowds, because they held Him to be a prophet.

P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ.
