OCCUPY BMORE Mitten Pattern Please feel free to use this pattern with other mitten patterns you have or alter to fit your own city/region/needs! I based and referenced this pattern this off of traditional Norwegian mittens and Lisa Anne Auerbach’s amazing Body Count mittens. (www.stealthissweater.com) Supplies: 2 100g skeins of worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors Yarn A: darker color Yarn B: lighter color Size 3 double pointed needles Tapestry needle for weaving in ends Sizing: Fits small/medium adult hand Mittens are 8” in diameter and 10 ¾” in length Gauge: 8 st/in Directions: Cast on 54 stitches – or for I-cord trim, CO 3 stitches (maybe in a different color) knit 54 rows in I cord and pick up 54 stitches with Yarn A & B, alternating the colors. Cuff: K 1x1 rib alternating A & B – A for knits, B for purls – for 13 rounds. Now you can make a knitted/Baltic braid or try out any fancy yarn tricks. Here is a good tutorial on Baltic braids if you are interested: http://www.siskiyouknits.com/grannielinda/colorarticles/braid.htm If that’s not what you’re into: Knit two rounds in color B and begin the 99% Cuff Motif. *side note* As you can see, I reversed the colors for this motif on the right and left mitten! Knit two more rounds in color B (Here is where you would put another Baltic braid) Mitten Body: Knit one round in color B and begin mitten colorwork pattern. For the palm of the mitten, I have included some patterns you can choose to insert in that area, or make up your own!

I based and referenced this pattern this off of traditional Norwegian mittens and Lisa Anne Auerbach’s amazing Body Count mittens. (www.stealthissweater.com) Supplies:

• 2 100g skeins of worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors Yarn A: darker color Yarn B: lighter color

• Size 3 double pointed needles • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Sizing: Fits small/medium adult hand Mittens are 8” in diameter and 10 ¾” in length Gauge: 8 st/in Directions: Cast on 54 stitches – or for I-cord trim, CO 3 stitches (maybe in a different color) knit 54 rows in I cord and pick up 54 stitches with Yarn A & B, alternating the colors. Thumb Hole: When you reach Round 11, bind off the 10 stitches for the thumb according to pattern and finish the rest of the round. When you reach the bind off point in Round 12, use a knitted cast on, and cast on 10 stitches over the gap where you bound off. Continue working in the pattern – you should now have a hole where your thumb can go through! Decrease: Start your decrease at Round 43 Round 42 and 43: knit 1, decrease 1 stitch, knit in pattern to 3 before end, decrease, knit 1 Round 44: knit 1, decrease one stitch, knit across 20 st in pattern, decrease, knit 2 stitches, decrease, knit across 20 st in pattern, decrease, knit 1 Follow Round 44, but decrease how many you knit across until 8 stitches remain on needles. Finish the mitten top off with the Kitchener stitch or three needle bind off. Thumb: Alternating between yarn A and B, pick up 22 stitches evenly around the thumb hole. Knit with both colors until it can cover pretty much the entire length of your thumb (mine was 15 rows) Thumb Decrease: Round 1: Knit 2 together around (11 stitches remain) Round 2: Knit 2 together around 5 times, knit 1 (6 stitches remain) Round 3: Knit 2 together 3 times (3 stitches remain) Cut yarn and pull through those remaining stitches. Mitten Loops (Optional): I made loops to go at the bottom of the mittens so you can have them hang from your wrists when you are doing tasks that involve fingers. Using a crochet hook, make a chain stitch with three colors around 9” long. Braid together and attach securely to bottom of mittens. Weave in your ends and now you have a pair of mittens to keep your hands warm and show your support!! Happy Knitting!
