    FADE IN.

    EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD - NIGHT

    A VAN is parked on a neighborhood street, within view of theadjacent cul-de-sac.

    A CROWN VIC sedan pulls up and parks behind it, quicklykilling the lights. Out steps AGENT ALEXIS 'LEX' LAURENT,rookie FBI Agent. Tall and beautiful. Smartly dressed. Longhair pulled up tight.

    She carries two cups of coffee over to the van's side doorand OPENS it.

    INT. FBI SURVEILLANCE VAN

    The back of the van is filled with FLAT SCREEN MONITORS,showing various images of a house under surveillance.

    Sitting on a stool in front of the monitors is AGENT MATT'MATTIE' BARNES, rookie FBI Agent. Pretty boy. Fashionablygroomed.

    Mattie is reading a BOOK by the castoff light from themonitors. The cover features a PENTAGRAM.

    Lex hands Mattie a cup of coffee.

    MATTIEThanks.

    LEXYeah.

    Lex retrieves a set of BINOCULARS and raises them to hereyes.

    CUT TO:

    BINOCULARS

    A MANSION in the rear of the cul-de-sac. Gothic and ornate.A black TOWN CAR in the driveway.

    BACK TO:

    INT. FBI SURVEILLANCE VAN - CONT.

    Mattie looks up from his book. He sees Lex frowning behindher binoculars.

    MATTIEIt's been quiet.

    Lex pulls the binoculars away from her face and looks atMattie, his feet up on a nearby stool.

    LEX

    Yeah...You look like you're all over it.

    MATTIEWhat? I am all over it.

    LEX(sarcastic)

    Nice work Mattie.

    MATTIEHave you read this guy's book?

    LEXNo.

    MATTIEIt's.....insane. He's crazy. And hedoesn't like women...

    Mattie brings the book closer to light of the monitors,tracing his index finger across the page.

    MATTIE(quoting from the book)

    Her festering crotch curses Adam, Herheatheness bosom putrifies the sons of

    man. Put her to the fire! Satan! Deliverus from Eve.

    LEX(reviled)

    What the F?...goddamn sicko. You knowthat bastard has a fifteen year olddaughter. I'm gonna arrest that piece ofcrap for child abuse.

    MATTIESince it's our job to protect him, Idon't think that would go over too hot.

    Lex checks her watch.

    LEXDid you check in?

    Mattie puts down the book and checks his watch.

    Lex takes out her cell phone. Mattie watches as Lex listensto the phone ring. Lex shakes her head, he expressionbecoming more grim.

    LEXCall the secondary.

    Mattie gets out his phone and dials. He shakes his head.

    MATTIEVoicemail.

    LEXLet's go.

    Lex SLIDES open the door and hops out.

    MATTIE

    Lex!

    Lex pulls her GLOCK from her shoulder holster and COCKS it.

    LEXWhat?

    MATTIEShould we call it in?

    LEXYou didn't see anything right?

    MATTIENo...nothing.

    LEXThen we check it out first.

    Mattie gets out of the van and SLAMS the door closed.

    EXT. FRONT OF MANSION - MOMENTS LATER

    Lex and Mattie approach the front door, guns pointed down.

    Lex KNOCKS.

    LEXFBI!

    No response. Lex POUNDS.

    LEXMr. Drexler!

    MATTIEShould we kick it in?

    LEX

    Of course not.

    Lex tries the door handle. Locked.

    LEXLet's go around back.

    EXT. REAR OF MANSION - MOMENTS LATER

    The rear of the mansion features a SLIDING GLASS DOOR and aREGULAR DOOR further down.

    TWIN FLASHLIGHT BEAMS precede Lex and Mattie as they emergefrom a side walkway.

    Lex tries the sliding glass door. Locked.

    Mattie looks in the glass. The curtains are drawn.

    Lex tries the standard door. Locked.

    Lex POUNDS her fist on the door.

    LEXMR. DREXLER!!!

    Nothing.

    MATTIEWhat should we do?

    Lex uses her flashlight to survey the back of the house. Italights on a small

    DOG DOOR.

    She approaches and kneels, lifting the door flap and shiningher light inside.

    A SNARLING DOG appears, BARKING ferociously.

    LEXGoddamn!

    Lex scampers back. Mattie begins LAUGHING.

    The dog emerges, still BARKING. A Boston Terrier, barely 10lbs. Lex's expression softens when she sees the small dog.

    LEXStop laughing Mattie! He's scared.

    (to the dog)Hi buddy. It's okay.

    Lex approaches the dog gently, with her hand out, calming it.The BARKING stops. The dog's demeanor changes. It begins to

    WHIMPER.

    LEXYou okay little guy?

    Lex slowly reaches down to rub the dog's neck. Her handrecoils in shock. It's smeared RED with BLOOD.

    LEXHe's covered in blood!

    Lex uses her hands to check the little dog's body.

    MATTIEIs he hurt?!?

    LEXIt's not the dog.

    MATTIEHoly Christ.

    LEXKICK IN THE DOOR!

    Mattie delivers a swift KICK and the door SPLINTERS open.The two agents enter, guns and flashlights up.

    INT. MANSION - DARK

    Lex CLICKS a light switch near the open door. No effect.She CLICKS an entire row of switches in quick succession.Nothing.

    LEX(whispering)

    No power!

    MATTIE

    (whispering)Someone cut the power?

    LEXI don't know!

    Two FLASHLIGHTS and GUNS sweep around the room as the Agentsbegin their search, Mattie in the lead.

    MATTIEDog prints.

    DOG PRINTS, in blood, shine dark under the flashlight.Leading from a dark hallway.

    MATTIE

    Down the hallway!

    The Agents proceed down the hallway, lights down, followingthe trail.

    LEXTry not to step on the blood.INT. MANSION FOYER - CONTINUOUS

    Mattie stops. His flashlight beam freezes.

    MATTIEOh God....It's Abraham.

    Lex follows the beam of Mattie's light.

    LEXHOLY SH--

    A roughly SEVERED HEAD on the floor.

    The FACE frozen in a terrified expression.

    FLASHLIGHT beam follows a trail of blood connecting to a darkshape:

    A HEADLESS CORPSE.

    MATTIEHe's dead.

    LEXYa think!?! We need to find the girl!

    MATTIEHer room's upstairs.

    LEXGo!

    The Agents ascend the stairs. Mattie sees something and putshis hand up signaling wait.

    MATTIEWait!

    LEXWhat?

    MATTIETurn your light off. I see something.

    Flashlights CLICK off.

    At the top of the stairs:

    A DOORWAY.

    Light spills from the narrow gap around the closed door.

    MATTIEThere.

    LEXI see it.

    Guns come up. The Agents proceed up the stairs quietly.

    Lex tries the door handle. Unlocked. She nods. Mattie nodsback.

    Lex SLAMS the handle down and the Agents BURST through thedoor, guns first.

    INT. UPSTAIRS BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS

    CANDLELIGHT, from black candles arranged in ceremonialfashion. On the floor a:

    RED PENTAGRAM.JEZEBEL, a teenage girl, hangs by bound heels from thevaulted ceiling.

    Her body is ghost white.

    DEAD.

    Gravity is pulling Jezebel's long white dress inside out, sothat it hangs down, covering her upper body, but revealingher innocent panties.

    Her hands, bound at the wrist, are barely visible, pointing

    down, hanging just below the hem of her dress.A wide RED LINE paints the center of the inverted dress downto the hem.

    SILHOUETTE through the dress by candlelight reveals Jezebelis:

    DECAPITATED.

    T e momentum o Matt e's entrance carr es m nto t e room,but the shock of the scene involuntarily JERKS his bodybackwards, like a puppet.

    MATTIEUHH!

    Lex clutches a hand to her face in horror, turning away.Stumbling against a wall, struggling to find her phone,collapsing against her knees.

    LEX(into phone)

    It's Lex! WE NEED BACKUP!

    [PAUSE]

    SEND EVERYONE!!!

    INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - LATER

    Lex is sitting in a sterile white interrogation room. Herchair is pulled away from the center table, up against the

    wall. Her body is hunched and small.

    Sitting opposite her are TWO FBI SPECIAL AGENTS, middle aged.Wearing suits. AGENT TWO has a notebook and pen. AGENT ONEhas an evidence file he is referencing.

    AGENT ONEYou checked in with Mr. Drexler at 4pm?

    LEX

    Yes sir.AGENT ONE

    And you reported...(looks at report)

    Situation normal.

    LEXYes sir.

    AGENT ONEDid Mr. Drexler sound like he could beunder duress?

    LEXNo! He sounded exactly like he alwayssounded.

    AGENT ONEHow did he "always sound?"

    LEXHe told me to go 'F' myself.

    Agent Two writes something down on his notepad.

    LEXThat's exactly what he said! He always

    said that. Except he didn't say 'F'; Hesaid...

    AGENT TWOWe understand Agent.

    AGENT ONEThe next check-in was 7pm...

    LEXYes sir.

    AGENT ONEWhich you failed to make...

    LEXWe were five minutes late!

    AGENT TWOWhy were you late?

    LEXAt the time, I was looking throughbinoculars, not at my watch.

    AGENT TWOAgent Barnes stated that you were..."getting coffee".

    LEXWhat!?! Mattie said that? I was backbefore 7!

    AGENT TWOBoth you and Agent Barnes claimed to see"No Activity Whatsoever" during thisperiod.

    LEXThat's correct.

    Agent Two pulls out photos of the Mansion Crime Scene,tapping his finger on the picture of Jezebel hanging from theceiling.

    AGENT TWOThen how do you explain this?

    LEXI can't.

    Special Agent One tries to hide a frown of consternation.Agent Two does not.

    AGENT ONE

    Sit tight Agent.

    LEXYes sir.

    Both Special Agents leave the interrogation room.

    A moment later, SPECIAL AGENT JEFF RIDGE enters, carrying afolder. Tall, handsome, rugged, mid 30s. Dressed casually.He approaches Lex to offer a professional handshake.

    RIDGESpecial Agent Ridge.

    LEX(shaking)

    Agent Laurent. I don't know anythingelse.

    RIDGEI'm not here to grill you Agent. I readthe report. But I have to catch whoeverdid this.

    LEXI wish I could help.

    RIDGEI know.

    LEXI didn't see anything!!!...Except theaftermath.

    Ridge nods sincerely.

    LEX (CONT.)But there was NOTHINGto indicate...I

    mean, we didn't see one single thing.

    RIDGEI believe you.

    LEXI have no idea what happened. Even now!!I can't even imagine....Trust Me...I'veTRIED!!

    Ridge opens his folder. Pictures from the Mansion Backyardand other data. He rotates the pictures and data so Lex can

    RIDGE(pointing to the pictures)

    The cameras picked up nothing.Motion Detectors. Nothing.Doors and windows, locked from the

    inside.

    LEXWow...will this save my job?

    RIDGEMaybe...Maybe not.

    LEXGreat.

    Ridge takes out his business card and slides it across thetable to Lex.

    RIDGEWe have an opening, Agent.

    Lex picks up the business card and examines it.

    LEX"Occult Crimes Unit"...OCCULT? Like

    witches and devil worshippers?

    RIDGESometimes.

    LEXI thought that was a hoax...

    RIDGESometimes.

    LEXSo what do you do, exactly?

    RIDGERight now, we catch this guy.

    Ridge taps his finger on the photos of the Mansion CrimeScene.

    CUT TO:

    INT. STORM CELLAR

    The only light comes from a single bulb, barely glowing. Adark FIGURE passes in front, casting wide, black shadowsacross the room, which includes storage and a workbench.

    A GHOST WHITE FOREARM places a white five gallon bucket on

    SILHOUETTE reveals it is half full with a dark, thick liquid.

    On the front is a strip of masking tape, labeled with aSharpie:

    "Jezabel - 15 yo"

    A stir stick is placed next to the bucket. The kind used forpaint.

    A large first aid kit is placed next to the stir stick.

    TREMBLING WHITE HANDS remove the bucket lid.

    A hand grabs the stir stick, swirling the liquid.

    Strands of BLONDE HAIR float to the surface, attached to adark sphere bobbing below.

    The stir stick is put down, covered red with blood and strayblond hairs.

    Hands open the first aid kit, filled with surgical tubing anda large syringe.

    Hands grab the tubing. Sounds of SNAPPING and STRETCHINGrubber.

    Hands grab the syringe, placing the needle into the liquid,retracting the plunger.

    DARK RED BLOOD fills the chamber.

    The SYRINGE is stuck into a bulging forearm vein. The plungerdepressed. The blood injected.

    A SIGH of relief. Trembling stops.

    EXT. MILITARY COMPOUND - MORNING

    The Compound is large tents and Quonset huts. Temporarystructures. A nasty barbed wire fence runs the perimeter.

    Lex drives her car towards the entrance gate passing a signattached to the fence:

    "NO TRESPASSING"

    "DEPT.of HOMELAND SECURITY"

    "NO WARNING SHOTS FIRED"

    In front of the gate is a GUARD POST manned by a SQUAD OFSOLDIERS, dressed in paramilitary gear, but no identifiable

    A Soldier standing in front of the car waves Lexforward...come..come..come...Then: STOP!

    A second Soldier knocks loudly on Lex's driver side window.

    Lex is startled briefly, hides it, and rolls down her window.

    SOLDIER 2Turn off the engine please ma'am.

    Lex turns off the engine.

    SOLDIER 2Take the keys out of the ignition please

    ma'am.

    LEX(skeptical but complying)

    Okay...

    SOLDIER 2Put the keys on the dashboard.

    LEXWhat?!

    SOLDIER 2Put the keys on the dashboard.

    LEXFine.

    Lex TOSSES the keys on the dash.

    Two more soldiers appear. One is holding a camera, and takespictures of Lex's car from various angles. The other employsa device for inspecting the undercarriage of cars.

    SOLDIER 2Identification please, ma'am.

    Lex hands over her FBI ID.

    SOLDIER 2Special Agent Ridge is expecting you

    ma'am.

    LEX(sarcastic)

    NO WAY!

    Soldier hands back the FBI ID.

    SOLDIER 2Corporal Reyes will accompany you to yourdestination.

    LEXWhat?

    A large, heavily muscled CORPORAL REYES appears at Lex'spassenger window.

    SOLDIER 2Unlock your passenger door please, ma'am.

    LEXOh.

    Lex reaches over and CLICKS the lock. CORPORAL REYES opensthe door and lowers his huge frame inside. The car'ssuspension sags under the weight.

    The gate slowly begins to open with a succession of metal

    CLINKS.

    CUT TO:

    INT. PORTABLE CLASSROOM

    The portable classroom is serving as a temporary HQ for theO.C.U. team, led by Ridge. One of the walls is posted withpictures of dead women's FACES. Another wall is posted withcrime scene photos featuring SATANIC IMAGERY.

    At the front of the classroom is a screen for a projection

    display. An image of Kansas is displayed, highlighting theInterstate 70 freeway, which runs East-West.

    Seated at a table, next to the video projector, is FBITECHNICAL AGENT BETHANY 'ABBY' WINTERS, a nerd with analluringly unique style, using her laptop, the screen brightin the darkened room.

    Standing, examining the image of Kansas, is Agent Ridge.

    Abby CLICKS a few keystrokes, and the image begins toanimate.

    A red dot illuminates in Western Kansas. Next to I-70.

    Branching off from the red dot are two lines, leading toseparate details about each of the victims: Abraham Drexler,56; Jezebel Drexler, 15.

    A second red dot illuminates. Further east along I-70. Morebranching lines leading to details about more victims.

    A third dot. More details. More victims. Many young women.

    RIDGEHe's working his way east.

    ABBYAt a rate of about..one body, every three

    miles.

    RIDGEJesus Christ. And that's in the Styx. Ifhe gets to Kansas City...it'll get

    worse, much worse.

    ABBYWell, K.C. is still twenty dead bodiesaway.

    RIDGEIf they all stay dead...

    A KNOCK at the door.

    CORPORAL REYES (OFF SCREEN)COMMANDER RIDGE!!!

    Ridge motions a cut across his neck, and Abby stops theanimation, bringing up a large FBI logo.

    RIDGECOME IN!

    Corporal Reyes enters, with Lex in tow. When she sees thephotos on the walls, her eyes widen. Then she remembersherself, and tries to reassume a nonchalant look.

    RIDGEThank you corporal.

    CORPORAL REYESYES SIR!

    Corporal Reyes disappears out the door.

    RIDGE(motioning towards Abby)

    Agent Laurent. This is Special AgentBethany Winters.

    Abby gets up and reaches over and shake Lex's hand.

    ABBY(shaking hands)

    Call me Abby.

    LEXCall me Lex.

    Abby reclaims her seat.

    RIDGEBring the plotting back up Abby.

    A few KEYSTROKES and the first red dot re-illuminates on themap of Kansas.

    RIDGE(pointing)

    This is where you found Mr. Drexler andhis daughter.

    The animation plays agains, starting with the first red dot,then showing the progress of dead bodies moving East acrossKansas.

    LEX

    Oh my god.

    Ridge points at the photo-evidence wall.

    RIDGEThe M.O. has been the same as the Drexlercrime scene. Murder. Decapitation.Satanic imagery...No forensics.

    ABBYDon't forget exsanguination.

    RIDGESome of the victims were left hanginginverted, so the blood drained out.

    Abby frowns.

    LEXHave you seen anything like thisbefore?!?

    Abby makes eye contact with Lex, but remains silent.

    RIDGENo. Now follow me. Let's go meet therest of the team.

    Ridge exits the tent and Lex follows a few moments behind.

    LEXNice to meet you Abby.

    ABBYTake care Lex.

    EXT. PORTABLE CLASSROOM -MOMENTS LATER

    Ridge leads lex towards a military style, open carriage Jeepparked in front, next to Lex's Crown Vic.

    LEX

    How big is the team?

    RIDGEFive...I mean four.

    LEXJust four!?!

    RIDGEWell, the priest makes five.

    LEXThe Priest? Who's the Priest?

    RIDGEHe's just a priest. Not The Priest.

    LEXHe works for the FBI?

    The pair arrive at the Jeep and hop in, Ridge driving.

    RIDGEHe's our Spiritual Advisor.

    LEXWell I should probably tell you I'm notreligious.

    RIDGEThat's alright. None of us were.

    Ridge turns the ignition. The engine REVS and the Jeep takesoff.

    INT. SHOOTING RANGE - MOMENTS LATER

    A target featuring a human outline is affixed to a frame.The frame is attached to a track that runs forward and backin front of the shooters.

    GUNFIRE is heard. Single shots, from a hand gun.

    Bullet holes PUNCH into the head and heart of the target inneat, controlled fashion.

    The man firing at the target is SPECIAL AGENT MARCEL 'MARS'REESE. Young. Super-fit. An expert shooter. From Mars's

    Mars FIRES his last round, and sets down the gun in front ofhim. He flips a switch and the range warning lights switchfrom RED to GREEN.

    Mars hits another switch, and his target begins moving

    towards him on the track.

    A door opens behind him and sunlight streams through,reflecting off the walls. Mars turns to look and sees Ridge,followed by Lex. The door closes behind her. Mars takes offhis hearing protection, and turns to meet Ridge and Lex.

    RIDGEAgent Laurent...Special Agent MarcelReese.

    MARS(shaking hands)

    Mars.

    LEX(shaking hands)

    Lex.

    RIDGEThis is her interview, Mars. Do you haveany questions for her?

    Mars briefly gives Ridge a serious look.

    MARSNo. Sir.

    RIDGEFine...Agent Laurent, is your gun loaded?

    LEXYes sir.

    RIDGEMars. Setup two targets at 50 yards.

    Mars attaches targets to the tracks in two adjacent shootinglanes. He presses buttons and both targets zoom out to 50yards.

    RIDGEWe'll make the interview simple, Agent.Triple tap. Center Mass. 50 yards. Youbeat Mars, you're in.

    Lex looks surprised.

    RIDGE (CONT.)If you lose Mars, you're fired.

    LEXWhat?

    RIDGE

    Let's go Agent. Lane 6.

    Lex moves to Lane 6, donning ear protectors. She pulls herpistol from the shoulder holster and cocks it.

    Mars hits a switch and the range warning lights turn fromGREEN to RED, accompanied by a brief warning SIREN.

    MARS(to Lex)

    Go ahead.

    Lex CLICKS the safety off and takes careful aim. Holding herbreath, she FIRES three shots downrange.

    Mars calmly raises his gun, ripping off three SHOTS withalmost no hesitation. Then he smacks a button and bothtargets begin to approach on their tracks. The warning lightsturn from red to green.

    Lex and Mars take off their hearing protection.

    MARSHave you ever tried a Walther P90? Theforward balance helps dampen the recoil.

    LEXI'm a Glock girl, Mars. It's been with

    me since the Academy.

    MARSI can tell.

    The group falls silent to stare at the targets as they cometo a stop at the end of their tracks.

    Lex's target has one hole in the five point center chestregion. A second and third hole are punched in the 4 pointring.

    Mars's target has a single hole dead center mass.

    RIDGE(unamused)

    Very funny Mars.

    LEXYou only landed one?

    MARSOne hole. Three bullets went through it.

    LEXYEAH RIGHT! That's impossible.

    MARS

    You're looking at proof.

    RIDGEMars, you're fired. Agent Laurent, come

    with me.

    Ridge and Lex leave the shooting range as Mars sets upanother target.

    EXT. MILITARY COMPOUND - MOMENTS LATER

    Opposite the shooting range is a large garage. Ridge and Lexwalk towards it.

    LEXAre you really gonna fire him?

    RIDGEDo you think that would be fair?

    LEXOf course not.

    RIDGEHe's not fired.

    LEXBut I'm still on the team right?

    RIDGEDo you think that would be fair?

    LEXMaybe.

    RIDGEHe fired three bullets through the samehole! If I remember correctly, RobinHood only got two.

    LEXNeither of those things is real.

    RIDGEMars is real. And he doesn't joke.

    Ridge and Lex arrived at the garage door, which is not fully

    INT. GARAGE - CONTINUOUS

    The Garage is a mostly empty concrete space. A target dummyis set up against a wall. Facing it is a calibration stand:an apparatus for holding a gun steady while it is test fired.

    The stand holds a handgun, which features a prominent REDbarrel. Behind the stand is SPECIAL AGENT ANAYA AKIRA:serious and severely beautiful.

    AKIRA smoothly turns her head to watch Ridge and Lex enterover her shoulder. Then she leans over the gun, aligning hereye over the barrel. She carefully pulls the trigger.

    BOOM. The gun fires. A bullet HITS the target dummy in thehead, exploding in a red mist and staining the dummy red.

    RIDGENice. Smells like salsa.

    Akira turns her head to frown at Ridge, unamused. She makesa few adjustment to the stand and pulls the gun free from its

    mount.

    AKIRAThese are the new non-lethal weaponspackages.

    Akira tosses the gun to Ridge. He catches it deftly andFIRES a quick double tap at the target dummy.

    RIDGENice feel.

    Ridge reaches out a hand and helps the red-faced Lex to herfeet, then he retrieves the cuffs from the floor and handsthem back to Lex.

    Lex repeats her previous instructions and Akira complies.Lex holds her at gunpoint as she approaches. When Lex getsclose, Akira feints then spins in the opposite direction,SMACKING Lex's gun away. Lex is pulling the trigger just asshe is hit, and the stray bullet BUZZES by Ridge's face,EXPLODING behind him. Akira disarms the stunned Lex with aquick twist and holds Lex at gunpoint.

    RIDGENot good. Try again.

    Lex looks embarrassed, but pissed, as Akira hands back thegun.

    AKIRAI'm dangerous. You should have shot me.

    Lex grabs the cuffs off the floor again. The she points thegun at Akira again.

    LEXHands up! On your knees!

    Akira complies. As soon as Akira is on her knees, Lexunloads two SHOTS of pepper bullets into Akira's chest,spraying her RED.

    Akira grimaces but shows no other outward effect. Lex FIRESthree more rounds. Akira redoubles her efforts to hide thepain, but eventually collapses in a fit of coughing.

    Lex moves over and cuffs the disabled Akira.

    Ridge finds a towel and wipes Akira's face. Akira is movingher hands behind her back and a moment later she has themfreed, the cuffs still hanging from one wrist. Akira grabs

    Hands extending from under the robes of black FIGURES holdthe young woman down. Other hands grab her wrists and anklesand tie them spread eagle.

    The Young Woman SCREAMS, muted under her GAG.

    A Figure SLIDES the Barn door closed. TOTAL DARKNESS.

    Another Hooded Figure STRIKES a match, letting it burn amoment before FLICKING it. The target: an Inverted Crucifix,soaked in kerosene, part of a demonic altar. It ROARSalight.

    The firelight reveals the Young Woman's limbs have been boundin specific positions so they line up perfectly with a redPENTAGRAM which has been painted on the floor beneath her.

    The firelight also reveals an enormous, grotesque picture ofSatan painted on the barn wall, featuring twisting tongue,limbs, phallus. Horrible and malformed.

    Ridge is driving. Lex is in the passenger seat.

    The SUV is on the driveway leading to the farm and the barncrime scene. They are behind a large troop transport truck,carrying a platoon of soldiers.

    Agent Akira is standing in the middle of the road up ahead,holding her hand up 'STOP'. The troop transport comes to astop, and the Platoon Commander jumps out of the passengerseat, wearing fatigues and a beret. His only identifying

    marking is the name patch above his left breast: WHITE.

    Akira gives muffled directions to the Platoon Commander,accompanied by a few curt HAND GESTURES and FINGER POINTS.

    The Commander gives Akira a smart, respectful salute. Akirareturns the world's briefest salute.

    The Commander gets back in the cab, and the truck rolls out.

    Ridge pulls the SUV forward, next to Akira, and rolls downthe passenger window.

    LEXHey.

    Akira takes one brief, unhappy glance at Lex, then turns toRidge.

    AKIRA(pointing curtly)

    Park over there.

    EXT. FARMSTEAD WITH BARN - DUSK

    Police and their cruisers congregate on the farmstead, butstay conspicuously away from the barn.

    Ridge parks and he and Lex get out. Akira joins them.

    Ridge leads the trio towards the group of police officers.

    The altar featuring the inverted crucifix is charred black.

    The image of Satan on the barn wall is blackened with soot.Various other occult imagery fill the other walls: '666', the'Anarchy' symbol, 'Star of Lucifer', 'Double Bladed Axe'.

    A sixth body, the Young Women's, is hidden under a blue tarp.Edges of her long white dress stick out from underneath.

    The PENTAGRAM is still clearly visible on the floor. Stakeswith the remnants of rope restraints remain stuck in theground at the points of the pentagram.

    CORONER ROBERTS in kneeling next to a stretcher/gurney thathas been lowered to the floor, shifting a body onto it.

    Akira, Ridge, and Lex enter through the barn door, castinglong shadows.

    CORONER ROBERTS

    It's about TIME! Come help me with thisbody.

    Ridge gets out his FBI ID and flashes it.

    RIDGEFBI doc. We'll take it from here.

    Ridge gestures towards Akira, who is already pulling on latexgloves. She gives Coroner Roberts a sarcastic gloved waveand smile, then gives her glove a loud SNAP.

    RIDGE

    (to Lex)I need you to document the symbols andimagery. We'll see if it matches theother scenes. Leave the bodies to

    Akira...Do you have a camera?

    LEXYeah. On my phone.

    RIDGEGood. I need to make a call. I'll beright back.

    Ridge takes out his cell phone as he leaves the barn. Lextakes out her cell phone and begins to examine the pentagramdrawn on the floor, SNAPPING photos. The '666' painted onthe wall, apparently in blood. SNAP photo. A demonic altar.Black candles, melted down. Horned goat's head. SNAP photo.

    Lex is distracted and begins to look over Akira's shoulder asAkira examines the body of the Young Woman. Akira is holdingup the tarp with one hand so Lex is unable to get a clearview.

    Akira notices Lex looking over her shoulder. The two womenmake eye contact.

    Akira pulls back the sheet. The body is missing a HEAD.

    LEXOH DEAR GOD. Where's the head!?!

    INT. ABANDONED TENEMENT LOBBY - NIGHT

    Small dirty windows and broken glass line a wall of thetenement, revealing the ebbing darkness outside, and glimpsesof moonlight.

    White cloth is draped over an old desk and chairs. A handful

    of burning black candles flicker on top.

    A HAND wearing a protective latex glove dips a long, narrowpaintbrush into a liquid filled, hi-tech stainless steelcanister, giving a brief stir. Then the tip is slowlyremoved, covered in blood, looking like thick black paint inthe darkness.

    The hand and paintbrush begin to carefully draw occultsymbols on the large empty wall. When black blood is paintedon the white wall, it leaves a thick crimson trail.

    First symbol: A PENTAGRAM. And directly underneath it: ANINVERTED CRUCIFIX. Then another dip of the brush into the

    blood.

    A SLAM of a door.

    The person holding the brush is Agent Abby Winters, in blacktactical gear, her face covered in a protective mask. Shestops painting to look behind her, for the source of thenoise.

    Mars has entered the tenement carrying a large, rolled up maton his shoulder. It is unwieldy, and Mars SMACKS it on thedoorway.

    Mars is also wearing black tactical gear.

    MARSSorry.

    ABBY(using a free hand to pull her

    mask away from her face)Do you need help Mars?

    MARSNah. I got it.

    Mars carries the mat into the middle of the room, easilystrong enough. He TOSSES the mat onto the floor.

    Abby goes back to her painting, starting with another dip ofher paint brush.

    Second Symbol: 'THE STAR OF LUCIFER'- A crescent moon facingleft and slightly up, towards a small five pointed star.

    Mars rolls the steel drum into place at the edge of the mat.

    MARSWe need to tip it slowly.

    Abby moves to the opposite side of the drum, as MarsUNLATCHES and removes the lid, setting it aside. The pairslowly tip the drum and blood spills out, flowing over the

    stencil, leaving a BLOOD PENTAGRAM on the floor.

    The rest of the blood soaks into the mat or the floor.

    Mars's cell phone RINGS. The pair tip the drum back upright,and Mars STRIPS off a latex glove to answer his phone.

    MARS(to cellphone)

    Mars...[PAUSE]Okay boss...[PAUSE]We'll be ready...[PAUSE]You too.

    Mars hangs up his phone.

    MARSTime to roll Abby.

    ABBYI have one more symbol.

    MARSI'll start carrying this stuff out.

    Abby retrieves her paintbrush, dips it in the canister ofblood, and swirls.

    Her last symbol looks like the silhouette of an angelornament on a christmas tree. But instead of a halo, thereis a crescent, pointing up like horns of a bull.

    Ridge hangs up his phone and walks back into the barn.

    INT. BARN - CONTINUOUS

    Two paramilitary soldiers are loading body bags onto a gurneyand removing them, one by one. Akira is finishing ZIPPING upthe body of the Young Women into the last body bag.

    Lex is examining the large picture of Satan on the wall.Ridge approaches.

    LEXCheck this out.

    RIDGEUnholy work.

    LEXIt's from a book called the Codex Gigas,or 'Devil's Bible.'

    RIDGEThe anatomy is quite...detailed.

    LEXExactly! The killer didn't have time topaint this. The victims did.

    Ridge kills the lights and slows the car as Lex's SUV getsbigger in the windshield.

    RIDGE(into cell)

    Agent Marcel is on site.

    Ridge quietly parks the car in an obscured spot near Lex'sSUV.

    Mattie's gently smiling face disappears, replaced with adevilish face, an evil Mattie, beyond human: A VAMPIRE.

    LEXDear God....

    The Vampire lunges at Lex, swiping her with claws andknocking her to the floor with a spray of BLOOD.

    The blood excites the Vampire, who WAILS, giving Lex a chanceto bring up her gun.

    Lex FIRES, shot after shot, emptying the clip. Holes areblown through the Vampire's clothes, spraying black blood.

    The vampire collapses and Lex scrambles away.

    The vampire picks himself up off the floor.

    LEX(hysterical)

    OH GOD!

    Akira and Ridge appear, firing their special pepper/garlicbullets, spraying the Vampire in red. The Vampire's facechanges to something more demonic, and begins to HISS andSMOKE.

    The Vampire begins to SHRIEK.

    Mars appears and charges toward the Vampire, using hismomentum to SLAM the Vampire to the ground. Ridge and Akira

    Mars uses a huge beefy forearm to pin under the Vampire'schin, forcing the head away and keeping the SNARLING teeth atbay. With his other hand, Mars withdrawals a long narrowCYLINDER that has been strapped to his back.

    The cylinder contains a pneumatically loaded wooden stake.Mars aims it above the VAMPIRE's heart and presses a switchat the top. With a JET of air, the stake is injected intothe Vampire's heart, whose SHRIEKING ends in abrupt SILENCE.

    INT. EXPERIMENTATION LAB - LATER

    A sterile white operating room featuring a motorized, fullyarticulating operating table in the center of the room.There is a single steel reinforced door and a mirrored wallopposite for observation.

    Akira and Mars are wearing full body protective suits as they

    position a stainless steel coffin in place next to the table.Mars unlocks the lid with a HISS, and Akira helps him lift itand place it aside.

    The walls of the coffin fall flat, and inside is the Vampire,naked except for the WOODEN STAKE extending from his chest.

    AKIRA1...2...3!

    Akira and Mars slide the Vampire onto the operating table.

    Akira attaches monitoring electrodes to the Vampire's skinwhile Mars uses his brute strength to force the Vampire'slimbs into restraints, and his head into a medieval leatherskullcap.

    Sensors and display equipment BEEP to life.

    PULL BACK TO:

    INT. EXPERIMENTATION LAB OBSERVATION ROOM - CONTINUOUS

    Lex and Ridge are watching the Vampire through the mirrorglass. Abby sits at a large bank of digital displays,including a camera monitor on which the image of the Vampireis jet black and indistinguishable.

    RIDGEThis is what we are up against.

    LEXThat doesn't explain anything. What ishe?!

    Ridge activates the 2-way intercom

    RIDGE

    (into intercom)Go ahead.

    Akira adjusts a control panel inside the operating room and adevice that looks like a large drill bit extends from theceiling. Mars attaches the extended clamp to the exposed endof the stake.

    Akira readjusts the control panel and the drill bit retracts,the motor WHINING as it pulls. Finally the stake budges, andyanks free.

    The lifeless body begins to reanimate, and the horribleSHRIEKING continues as if it had never ceased. The headshakes maniacally against it bounds. The arms, legs, andneck flail violently for whatever play they can find againstthe restraints, which is almost nothing.

    Ridge reaches over to punch the speaker button and theSHRIEKING stops.

    Lex is crying from shock, her hand covering her mouth as sheis trying to find some composure.

    LEXDear God. It's a VAMPIRE...

    RIDGEYeah, except this is the real deal.

    ABBYThis creature is definitely theinspiration for the myth.

    Lex looks ill. She sees the Figure's face through the glass,transforming back into AGENT MATTIE BARNS, calm, no longerstruggling in the restraints.

    Lex clutches her head with her hands.

    LEX

    GET OUT!!!

    VAMPIRE (VOICE OVER)Like you are inside me...

    Lex starts to scream. Ridge punches the intercom.

    RIDGEEnd it! NOW!!

    Akira pushes a button on her control panel. The drill bitholding the wooden stake SLAMS back into the heart of theVampire, returning him to his deathlike trance.

    INT. WOMEN'S LOCKER ROOM - LATER

    Lex, just showered, is standing in front of the mirror, inher slacks and a bra, her button up shirt still on the hangernext to her. She twists her body to examine the side of hertorso, which bears five parallel CLAW MARKS leading uptowards her neck.

    The locker room door OPENS, and heels CLICK on the concretefloor. Lex rushes to put on her shirt but Akira arrivesaround the corner to witness the scars herself. Lex finishesadjusting her shirt without acknowledging Akira.

    AKIRAAre you okay?

    LEXI'm fine.

    Akira pulls out an orange pill container from her pocket andshakes it. The pills inside RATTLE.

    LEXI don't need those.

    Akira puts the pills back into her pocket. Then sheretrieves a jewelry box.

    AKIRAAlright. But I have something else foryou. It's from Jeff...Agent Ridge.

    Akira tosses the jewelry box to Lex who nimbly catches it.Lex opens it and sees the silver cross inside. She removesthe cross and hold it up in appreciation.

    LEXCan you help me with this?

    AKIRASure.

    Akira takes the cross and clasps it around Lex's neck whileLex's holds her hair up.
