The Department of Chemistry was established in 1960. Since then it is actively engaged in high quality teaching and research in diverse areas of chemistry. The department consists of 27 faculty members with expertise in various frontier areas of basic as well as inter-disciplinary research in chemistry. The department offers three academic programs leading to the award of M.Sc, M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees. The aim of the department is to generate well trained human resource with high professional competence in different areas of chemistry for national needs. The department is actively supported by various national funding agencies and it is equipped with research laboratories that include state-of-the-art instrumental facilities required to carry out high quality teaching and research activities. Roorkee is situated at the foothill of the Himalayas in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. It is located on the banks of the upper Ganga Canal and is the gateway to the pilgrim centres of Haridwar, Rishikesh, Badrinath and Kedarnath.
