OBIEE: Relaonal Repository Developer (3 days) keyteach.com | +44 (0) 161 408 7722 | [email protected] Learning objecves Learn how to setup a repository from a relaonal data source within OBIEE to service business reporng and dashboarding requirements. A separate two-day Reports and Dashboards course is available for report developers. Course descripon This course is designed for developers with no prior experience of OBIEE. It enables developers to design and build a funconal repository based on an exisng database (a full working repository file is built in stages). The course explores the various sengs, features and capabilies of the physical layer, a representaon of the physical data sources used by OBIEE. Aendees will also learn about the business model and mapping (BMM) layer also known as the logical layer; an abstracon of the physical layer that converts the physical model into a more logical layout. Students will find out how mulple physical tables can be combined into a single logical table, how calculated items can be created and hierarchies defined. Find out about the variety of different objects at this layer of the respository, where the majority of the configuraon takes place. The presentaon layer is the final element of the respository and is visible to end users in the OBIEE web interface. Aendees will get an understanding of the subject areas and the associated presentaon tables, hierarchies and columns that will be used by report developers. This course also explores advanced configuraon, including table source mappings, funcons, advanced dimensions, fragmentaon content, lookup tables, security, usage tracking, caching, user maintenance and the metadata diconary. Learning objectivesLearn how to setup a repository from a relational data source within OBIEE to service business reporting and dashboarding requirements. A separate two-day Reports and Dashboards course is available for report developers.

Course descriptionThis course is designed for developers with no prior experience of OBIEE. It enables developers to design and build a functional repository based on an existing database (a full working repository file is built in stages). The course explores the various settings, features and capabilities of the physical layer, a representation of the physical data sources used byOBIEE. Attendees will also learn about the business model and mapping (BMM) layer also known as the logical layer; an abstraction of the physical layer that converts the physical model into a more logical layout. Students will find out how multiple physical tables can be combined into a single logical table, how calculated items can be created and hierarchies defined. Find out about the variety of different objects at this layer of the respository, where the majorityof the configuration takes place. The presentation layer is the final element of the respository and is visible to end users in the OBIEE web interface. Attendees will get an understanding of the subject areas and the associated presentation tables, hierarchies and columns that will be used by report developers.

This course also explores advanced configuration, including table source mappings, functions, advanced dimensions, fragmentation content, lookup tables, security, usage tracking, caching, user maintenance and the metadata dictionary.

Day SummaryDay 1: Basic Configuration, Layers, Dimensions, Deployment & TestingDay 2: Opening an RPD Online, Variables, Mappings, Columns, MeasuresDay 3: Security, Usage Tracking, Caching, Multi-user Development, Metadata Dictionary

Detailed agenda

Basic Configuration• Admin Tool and the Repository The OBIEE server reads all its metadata from a repository file (which has a .rpd extension). This file contains everything that the OBIEE server requires to convert a user request within the web interface into a physical query that will be sent to one or more of the underlying data sources.• The Physical Layer Understand the various settings, features and capabilities of the physical layer, a representation of the physical data sources used by OBIEE. • Physical Table Keys, Aliases & Joins• The Business Model and Mapping or Logical Layer Learn about the business model and mapping (BMM) layer also known as the logical layer; an abstraction of the physical layer that converts the physical model into a more logical layout. Students will find out how multiple physical tables can be combined into single logical tables, how calculated items can be created and hierarchies defined.• Creating a Business Model• Creating Dimensions• Creating A Time Dimension• The Presentation Layer The presentation layer is the final element of the respository and is visible to end users in the OBIEE web interface. Attendees will get an understanding of the subject areas and the associated presentation tables, hierarchies and columns that will be used by report developers. • Creating a Subject Area• OBIEE Administration• Deploying & Testing the RPD

Advanced Configuration• Opening an RPD Online The Admin Tool has the ability to connect to a running OBIEE server and modify the RPD while it is running on the server. • Variables Variables are values provided by the OBIEE server which can be used in analyses within expressions and filters.• Advanced Logical Table Sources and Mappings One logical table can in fact contain many logical table sources, and each logical table source can map to multiple underlying physical tables.• Time Series Functions Time series functions are special functions which only operate on members of dimensions which have been flagged as Time dimensions.• Advanced Dimensions Ragged and skip-level dimesions, Level-based measures and parent-child-based advanced dimensions.• Conforming Dimensions Aggregation of data from multiple fact tables against the same dimension attributes.• Implicit Fact Columns• Aggregate Tables Aggregate tables are one of the key tools for reducing the time taken for a query to run over the OBIEE data source.• Fragmentation Content• Sort Order Columns and Lookup Tables• Security Object level and Data Level Security. • Usage Tracking• Caching BI Cache and Presentation Services Cache.• User Maintenance• Multidimensional Data Sources OBIEE works out of the box against a number of multi-dimensional sources such as SAP BW and Essbase• Metadata Dictionary
