It covers the enre process from the creaon of a repository using Essbase metadata, a variety of key administrave tasks, and the design, development and publishing of reports and dashboards. We offer courses for both relaonal data sources and for muldimensional Essbase which works out of the box. With Essbase, the physical layer is always imported into the RPD rather than created manually, making development of a repository against Essbase far less complicated. The source system already knows the relaonships between the physical objects and as a consequence, OBIEE can use these pre-exisng relaonships. Course descriptionDesigned for developers with no prior experience of OBIEE, this course is for those that need to import and maintain arepository and build reports and dashboards based on an Oracle Essbase data source. It covers the entire process from the creation of a repository using Essbase metadata, a variety of key administrative tasks, and the design, development and publishing of reports and dashboards. We offer courses for both relational data sources and for multidimensional Essbase which works out of the box. With Essbase, the physical layer is always imported into the RPD rather than created manually, making development of a repository against Essbase far less complicated. The source system already knows the relationships between the physical objects and as a consequence, OBIEE can use these pre-existing relationships.

Detailed agenda

Overview• OBIEE Overview and Architecture• Reviewing an OBIEE Dashboard• Essbase Terminology• Essbase Levels and Generations Members of dimensions in Essbase all sit at a set Generation within the hierarchy. When working with OBIEE, these Generation references are used to restrict reports to use only specific members.• Essbase Administration Services (EAS) Console• Admin Tool and the Repository The OBIEE server reads all its metadata from a repository file (which has a .rpd extension). This file contains everything that the OBIEE server requires to convert a user request within the web interface into a physical query that will be sent to one or more of the underlying data sources.• Exploring a Repository File Understand the physical layer, logical layer (BMM - business model and mapping) and the presentation layer.

Reporting• Creating Basic Reports Reports in OBIEE are comprised of several components; a Subject Area to report on, a set of Columns to display, Filters to restrict the report’s point of view and a series of Views determining how the reports will be presented.• Compound Layout The Compound Layout is used to arrange the Views that will be used when OBIEE reports are opened. Many views are available to work with, from simple Table Views through to Gauge and Narrative Views.• Table Views, Pivot Tables• Graphs, Gauge and Narrative Views• View and Column Selectors• Totals, Subtotals and Calculations OBIEE allows you to add your own calculations to reports. This can be done by using automated total and subtotal functionality, by adding customised Calculated Items or by editing existing column formulas to alter their results.• Formula Editing• Layers, Bins and Groupings Bins can be used to combine several columns together, grouping their data. Alternatively, Selection Steps can be used to both filter the values that are displayed as well as combine values into groups.• Conditions and Conditional Formatting• Essbase Flat Measure Columns• Advanced FIltering• Action Links

Dashboards• Options and Prompts

Variables• Understanding Variables Variables are placeholders for values that change. These can be used in report filters and expressions to control what is displayed in a report. OBIEE has several variable types that can be used in order to make your reports more flexible.• Variables Syntax• Session Variables• Repository Variables• Presentation and Request Variables• Variables in Report Filters

Master Detail Reporting• Master Detail Reporting Master Detail Reporting can be used to control all analyses on a dashboard using the results of a single analysis. This can be used to make more responsive dashboards that can be easily updated to show various details.

Delivers• Understanding Delivers Delivers and the Agent Administration tabs available in OBIEE allow you to create automated processes for running scheduled tasks, such as generating reports and emailing them to people based on their results.• Agent Administration Tabs

Managing Reports and Dashboards• Managing the Catalog• Managing Permissions

Repository Develoment and Deployment• Understanding OBIEE Data Sources• Importing Essbase Metadata to the RPD Physical Layer• Managing the On Line Repository• Deployment and Testing of the RPD• Administrator Case Study
