Consider the cultural signicance of money the intimacywith which we interact with it everyday, the hopes and de-

sires we attach to it and its physical maniestations in the

orm o coins and notes. For most societies and cultures

coinage is a critical part o their identity, casting into metal

important symbologies and meanings.

The games we play, on the other hand, are what elevates usabove the mundane. Games let us escape rom routine and

the expected; they allow our antasies to take ight.

Using these ideas in a water eature may seem odd at frst

but this is exactly what is behind our design philosphy.

For the Xidan Public Square, in the heart of a commercial district under redevelopment in

Beijing, we drew on the concepts of Square and Circle as represented by the

ancient Tong Qian coin and the Wei Qi board. Apart from the his-

torical signicance of these two representations, the sym-

bology of Square = Earth and Circle = Heavencarries a deeper meaning which is also

incorporated into the chore-

ography of the water

display.

When contemplating designs for a water feature, we lookin unlikely places to develop solutions that will create not

just a ountain, but also an expression o our clients values

and ideals, taking into account context and culture without

sacrifcing economic or environmental considerations.

Water features are often highly technical projects requiringcomplex engineering, a multitude o specialty vendors and

stallations in the public area indicate the broad area o implementation. Founded in 1948 as a repair shop or agricultural

With artistically designed fountains OASE creates a unique atmosphere through the interplay of art object, moving

water, and lighting. A very special visual experience that we make possible not only in public areas but also indoors

as well.

Major projects, such as Magie de lnergie on the Expo grounds in Switzerland, the 141 meter oating fountain in

Bahrain, or the worlds largest oating water organ on the Neva in St. Petersburg. We develop the technical components,

as well as the design and creative concepts, e.g. for impressive Musical Fountains like the Monas installation in

Jakarta, in our Competence Centres in Germany and Singapore.
