Mosque Tragedy—With the money donated to the coin trail and the selling of baking at lunchtime, we raised a total of $550.50 last week. This money has now been sent to the Student Leaders of Cashmere High School, accompanied by a note of support written by our Head Students. While it is only a small amount in the scheme of things, we wanted to do something to show that we
care. Tragic events such as this highlight the importance of all those personal qualities which we emphasise on a daily basis—of being kind, caring, inclusive and respectful of one another. Let us not forget! Staffing—We are delighted to announce that Mrs Gala Kirke has been appointed to the position of Head of Visual Arts. She takes over the role from Ms Glenys Parry who is retiring at the end of Term One. Ms Kay Strathern, an experienced teacher of Art from Morrinsville College, will be joining our staff after Queen’s Birthday weekend. We will hold a farewell for Ms Parry at our final Assembly this term. Parents and Old Girls are most welcome to join us at this Assembly on April 10, which begins at 11.50am. Miss Hannah Frenz from Germany has been working with Caretaker Mr Lance Puhirere while our Gardener Ms Shirley Worthington has been on leave caring for her sick husband. We have been very fortunate to have had her working on our grounds and buildings for the past seven weeks. Miss Frenz finishes working for us this Friday, and is returning home to Europe shortly to resume her job as a High-Ropes instructor. We thank her for her efforts and wish her all the best for the future.
South Island Athletics—Best wishes to Niamh Motley, Nora Quigley, Jessica Vogel and Madeline Thomas who are heading to Blenheim to compete for Craighead at the South Island Secondary Schools’ Athletics this weekend. Competing at this level takes a huge amount of discipline, training and commitment. Thanks to the parents who are making this trip possible.
God Bless—Lindy Graham, Principal

Meet Ella Yeatman— Deputy Cultural Leader 2019
Starting Craighead as a Year 9 boarder in 2015, I never thought I would see the day where I would be walking around school in a Year 13 blazer. The last four years spent at Craighead have been a privilege and it is an honour to be appointed to the role of Deputy Cultural Leader for 2019. Throughout my time here, I have always made the most of every opportunity available at school, from being a part of our beloved Chorale to competing in the local Football competition in the First XI team. These opportunities Craighead has given me have created lifelong friendships across all year levels and memories I will never forget. The Boarding House has become a home away from home for me, with supervisors there for us whenever needed and 23 sisters ready to laugh and dance with.
This year, Cultural Leader, Olivia Mackenzie and I have plans to revamp the role and give back to the school before we depart on our future endeavours. We are very excited to announce our ideas in the near future to the girls and hope our plans will enhance cultural appreciation throughout our school community. Next year I plan to carry my interests in History, Economics and English into tertiary study at Otago University. In the meantime I am enjoying making the most of what Year 13 has to offer and making my last year at Craighead one to remember.
