Tis’ the Season
Now that fall is officially here, we are entering the holiday season, which is a time of giving. Here at the Oak Creek center, we will be running two holiday “collection drives.” During the month of November, we will be hosting a food drive. In December, we will be having our annual mitten/coat drive. Please watch the lobby for special
collection locations.
Fundraiser
Our annual Collectivo Coffee Fundraiser runs through Friday, November 13th. Please have all orders and money turned in to Ms. Ann or Ms. Holly by that date. Your coffee, tea and hot cocoa will arrive in time to give out for Thanksgiving. Thank you in advance for your
support of this great fundraiser!
Check Your
Child’s Cubby
Now that the colder weather is here, please check your child’s cubby to ensure that they have appropriate sized
long sleeved shirts and pants.
Picture Day
Picture day is Tuesday, November 17th. The photographer will begin taking photos at 7am. Please feel free to bring your child a little early and take them to the muscle room for their photo. Otherwise, we will take them during the morning for you. You may also bring an outfit for
them to change into afterwards.
Happy November!

Featured Classroom of the Month
Infant 2
Ms. Karen and Ms. Christal are the teachers in our Infant 2 classroom. During the month of November, the children will practice giving “nice touches” and hugs. Themes this month will also focus on pumpkins, gourds and feathers and how they feel to the touch. Younger infants have goals of rolling over and starting to sit up and the older infants are working on using plates, utensils and cups. Stop
by and see all of the fun going on in Infant 2!

Ms. Cassaundra (Cassie) Selkurt
Assistant Teacher—Preschool 2
Meet Ms. Cassie, our new Assistant Teacher in the Preschool
2 classroom.
Ms. Cassie has taken the Introduction to the Early Childhood Profession course. Ms. Cassie has worked in the child care field for the last year, but working for Ebenezer Child Care Centers is her first experience in
a group setting.
Ms. Cassie believes it is important to be ready for children’s questions and to be someone that children can look
up to and come to when needed.
Ms. Cassie wants to complete a bachelor’s degree in the field of
education.
Ms. Cassie enjoys playing the piano and writing poetry. She also enjoys spending time with her daughter, Lila, by taking walks
and going to the park.

Literacy in Younger Children
Language is a complex system that supports a child’s ability to decode and comprehend as they learn to read. A child’s language abilities help them not only for reading, but for following instructions and interpreting stories. There are many ways to help develop a child’s
language skills, beginning from birth.
Beginning in infancy, adults can use “baby talk,” which is a singsong way of talking to children while exaggerating facial expressions. It is stimulating to infants as they map the key sounds and patterns of language. Talking to children about their daily activities also enhances communication skills. Of course, reading to children at an early age builds
vocabulary and language comprehension.
Some helpful tips for parents: 1) Use “baby talk” with very young children; 2) Talk to children during daily events and activities; 3) Play and initiate active engagement with the child’s environment; 4) Model reading with expression; 5) Read age appropriate books to children; 6) Engage children in discussions; 7) Model turn-taking when having discussions in
social settings.
