Jesus identifies himself with the least of his brethren

The criterion for entering the Realm - Mt 25:31-46

Today, on the feast of Christ the King, we read that a ruler or leader should be like a

shepherd. The leader is to care for all the people and protect them. And a wise and

loving ruler knows that what is important for the people is equally important for their

leader. In today's gospel, the ruler is also a judge. At the last judgment, Christ is

pictured as the king who judges the nations. How does he judge? On the basis of care and concern

for the needy. Did you notice in the gospel that all the people were surprised at the king's answer to

their questions? How lucky we are to have Jesus tell us what they did not seem to know, that when

we do for others, we do to him, and that we will be judged on our works of mercy and justice. Take a

moment to think about these works that the gospel mentions. Ask Christ to reign and rule in your

heart and in the whole world. Prayer: Lord God, you have set Jesus, your Son, to be universal king

and judge. He will come at the end of time to judge all the nations. He comes to us every day in a

thousand ways and asks us to welcome him. We meet him in the Word and in the broken bread. But

we also meet him in our broken brothers and sisters, disfigured by hunger, oppression, injustice,

sickness and the stigma of our society. Open our hearts that we may welcome him today in our lives

so that we may be welcomed by him in the eternity of his realm. We ask this through the same Christ

our Lord. Amen.

Jesús se identifica con sus hermanos más pequeños - El criterio para entrar en el Reino

Hoy es la fiesta de Cristo Rey y leemos que un líder, un gobernante, debe ser como un pastor.

El líder debe proteger a toda su gente. Un gobernante sabio y compasivo sabe que lo que es

importante para el pueblo debe ser importante para él. En el evangelio de hoy, el gobernante es

también un juez. En el juicio final, Cristo es mostrado como un rey que juzga a todas las naciones.

¿Cómo él juzga? Basado en la preocupación por los necesitados. ¿Te diste cuenta, en el evangelio,

que todos se sorprendieron de las respuestas del rey a sus preguntas? Somos agraciados de tener

a Jesús que nos dice lo que parece que ellos no saben, que lo que hacemos por otros lo hacemos

por él y que seremos juzgados por nuestras obras de misericordia y justicia.

Toma un segundo para pensar en las obras mencionadas en el evangelio.

Pide a Cristo reinar y gobernar en tu corazón y en todo el mundo.

Oración: Señor Dios, tú has constituido a tu Hijo Jesús rey y juez universal. Él vendrá al final de los

tiempos para juzgar a todas las naciones. Él viene cada día a nosotros de mil formas y nos pide que

lo acojamos. Lo encontramos en la Palabra y en el partir del pan. Y lo encontramos también en los

hermanos partidos y desfigurados por el hambre, la opresión, la injusticia, la enfermedad,

el rechazo de la sociedad. Abre nuestros corazones para saber acogerlo en el hoy de nuestra vida,

para ser por Él acogidos en la eternidad del cielo. Te lo pedimos por el mismo Cristo nuestro Señor.
