Monday 20th October The October sale had a nice entry of 49 heifers forward, with the best quality on show for quite some time. Judge Frank Wrathall cast his expert eye over all four classes before awarding the Champion rosette to Wyredale Sid Nina 65, from the Atkinson of Westfield House. Bred from two generations of VG cows, this very correct heifer, sold giving 20litres, later went on to realise £2100. Taking the Reserve Champion rosette was lot 14 from KE Robinson, with Kilnhall Palermo Tamora.

Trade topped at £2350 for a very smart heifer from David Knowles, Cragg Farm. A total of four heifers broke the £2000 barrier, showing that quality animals continue to achieve good prices at Lancaster despite the falling milk prices. A ringside of 18 active buyers saw a number leave empty handed and all cattle sold to full value. With all cattle included, a market average of £1635 for heifers and £1300 for cows was achieved.
