Helping all become one with God
ST TERESA OF CALCUTTA PARISH - MONCHES & NORTH LAKE September 2017
Nurturing Your Spiritual Life
By Christine Slowinski, Director of Evangelization & Stewardship
I don’t know where I first heard it, but this statement
has stayed with and influenced me: Either you are moving
forward in your spiritual life or you are moving backward.
There is no “staying in the same place.” These words really
kicked me in the pants as a reminder that we should never
be sa#sfied with “neutral” in growing and praising God.
This fall, there are mul#ple ways for you to go deeper
in your rela#onship with the Lord.
Catholic ID Small Groups
Led by Chris Slowinski at her home on Be$e Ann Drive
(about 5 minutes from the North Lake church). This small
group will move through a process that emphasizes the
amazing love of our Lord and the habits of discipleship.
There is an accompanying book, Encounter Christ, wri$en
by staff from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee which
accentuates the experience. The first gathering will give
you a sample of Catholic ID—then you can decide if it’s a
good fit.

Faithful ci#zenship is not a voter’s guide or a scorecard
of issues. Rather, it is a reflec#on of Church teachings in
order to assess poli#cal pla'orms, campaigns and other
significant issues. Rob Shelledy, Diocesan Social Jus"ce
Director for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, will offer
resources from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
and Wisconsin Catholic Conference to help us consider our
role as faithful ci#zens.

September 2017
Dear faithful parishioners of St. Teresa of Calcu!a,
In three short months St. Teresa of Calcu!a will say goodbye to Fr. Bill Stanfield, a loyal leader who’s
been pastor for more than five years. While Fr. Bill is most deserving of a relaxing and prayerful re#rement, we
are very sad to see him leave.
Transi#ons, such as when a priest leaves a parish, can cause a certain amount of anxiety and concern
for parishioners. We may feel uncomfortable with change and we worry how the transi#on will impact our
own daily lives. Plans are in place to make the transi#on as smooth as possible, and while change will
undoubtedly feel uncomfortable at #mes, our hope is to make this change as seamless as possible.
To help with this transi#on, Deacon Allen Olson will serve as the Pastoral Associate at St. Teresa of
Calcu!a, and in this posi#on, will handle the day-to-day administra#ve du#es that Fr. Bill oversaw. Deacon
Olson most recently was the Middle School Religion and Music Teacher at St. Charles Parish School in
Hartland. He was ordained a deacon in 2012. He’s been a parishioner of St. Teresa of Calcu!a since 1981 and
he was married at this parish in 1985. Deacon Allen and his wife Ellen have six adult children.
Fr. Bill’s re#rement also comes as St. Teresa of Calcu!a in North Lake and Monches and St. Charles in
Hartland will be united as a cluster by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The defini#on of a “cluster of parishes”
is having two or more separate churches under the pastoral guidance of one pastor. Unfortunately, the idea of
having one pastor oversee one parish is no longer sustainable and, with this new reality, we must look ahead
at how best to minister to our parishioners and parishes. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has many clusters
within the ten coun#es it serves and now St. Teresa and St. Charles will be one of them.
While Deacon Olson will serve as the daily administrator and preside over Communion Service at St.
Teresa on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8 am, Fr. Patrick Behling and I will preside over Masses
at the church on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on the weekends with assistance from other priests. We are
hard at work on a weekend Mass schedule that accommodates the needs of both our parishes.
Deacon Olson will shadow Fr. Bill for the next three months to learn the different aspects of his new
pastoral associate role.
We all want answers on how this new cluster will operate having two priests oversee three churches.
I’m asking for your prayers and your pa#ence as we embark on this new arrangement. We will have more
answers as we examine the processes now in place at the parishes and decide how to run opera#ons more
efficiently.
I trust you will join me in welcoming Deacon Allen Olson to
this new role and lending your support wherever needed. As I heard
from parishioners at the St. Teresa Parish Picnic last summer, I truly
believe that St. Teresa and St. Charles will be “be!er together.”
God Bless,
Fr. Ken Omernick

Christian Formation
By Jennifer Ishizaki, Confirmation & Grade School Coordinator
Chris an Forma on is excited for our 2017/18 school
year. The theme this year is Living as Missionary Disciples.
We will talk to our students about how their ac ons reflect
on not only themselves, but on those who know they are
Catholic. We will show them what it means to be good
Catholics by helping others and trea ng others as we want
to be treated.
We have an amazing team of catechists to help us
develop our children’s faith and help their parents guide
them to be strong Catholics. Our catechists this year are:
Jenny Bartz, Donna Brooks, Greg Budzien, Tom Carroll,
Jean Gales, Chris!ne Gimler, Jill Gosse, Stephanie Haizel,
Jessica Henschel, Shellie Javier, Maria Kea!ng, Angie
McNeil, Emily Ne"esheim, Rosie Pope, Lucas Rowe, Ginny
Schwerm, Jaclyn Smith and Billy Theama.
In addi on, we have been blessed this year with a
generous dona on from the estate of Sandi Hora. With it,
we purchased several items to enhance our classroom
se#ngs. We updated the prayer tables with new table
cloths to help students see the liturgical colors of the year.
Also, beau ful crosses have been purchased on which saint
sacramental medals can be hung; this will assist in our focus
on a different saint
each month.
Children will learn
about and share
new informa on
about our beau ful
Catholic Saints. The
dona on also
allowed us to buy
new advent wreaths
to aid in our
celebra on of
Advent.
